The only time I have ever celebrated Valentine's Day is back in elementary school where you were required to give valentines to the whole class. I suppose that means technically I have received just as many valentines from other guys as from girls...

Meh, tomorrow I'm going to give a little Candy to my fellows, my friend and my teacher (you know, my teached ir 30 years old so she's nice at me), and oh yeah I'm going to have a Candy Exchange at my English Class, so even if no one is going to give me something, I'll get some candy!

Tonight's conversation with the bf:
Him: So... tomorrow is Thursday, right? Me: Yep! You do remember what else it is, right? Him: Um, Val...no, wait, Valentine's Day is on Friday, right? So, this should be interesting. <.< I'm very very glad I had a backup plan ready to go, though--we'll be eating peanut pad thai (from a box, but we both love it) and watching Howl's Moving Castle. And the shirt I'm giving him arrived today, so I just have to find suitable wrapping materials. I just wish I wasn't having to be the responsible one here. >.< It's nice to be spoiled once in a while... |

What the hell is all that shit for? People get mushy and start acting queer It is definitely the most annoying day of the year This day needs to get the hell over with and pass Before i shove a dozen roses up Cupid's ass I'll spend the day so drunk i can't speak And wear all black for the rest of the week Guys act all sweet but it soon will fade For all they are doing is trying to get laid The arrow Cupid shot at me must not have hit Because i think love is a crock of shit So heres my story... what else can i say? Love bites my ass Fuck Valentinges Day! found this on facebook, kinda funny |

@Rookie,
for me too... coming from the former east germany, Valentine's day is still not very actively practiced here. I guess it will take a while to grow Anyway happy Valentine's to everyone (or not - for those who don't like ^^').

Or's that just my line? We don't' do Valentine's day; I've always hated the commercialized holidays. In fact I don't think my husband has ever done anything for it, which is good. I detest how people feel they NEED to be romantic on a certain day of the year, along with the rest of the herd. Novel idea: take your mate out to dinner with roses on a random day! for no apparent reason other than you enjoy their company!! Wow :P I much prefer the above I vividly recall one time, when I was an asst manager at a gas station, and he a manager, he called to have me run over one day and didn't say why, so I assumed something was wrong @ the station. All he wanted to do was give me a rose for each year we'd been together (which was only like 4 at this time but still). He's also been known (before he worked here) to drop by my job randomly with flowers or whatever. THAT to me, is romantic. Valentine's Day just always seemed so... contrived... that it lose whatever meaning it should have had. And I realize it's not the popular opinion, but hey, forums, personal opinions, who'd've thunk it. Flame away

It's appropriate, isn't it! In any case, I agree with you. True romanticism is spontaneous, not held out for one day of the year! |

I personally dont really appreciate Valentines day, not sure why, maybe because im single, maybe for some other reason. Some funny things i read in the newspaper today though. Apparently some schools here in Sweden was closed today because the prinicipals didnt want some people to get bullied because they didnt get any roses ^_^

Being single during a Valentine's Day does have advantages, Avantoe. First off, you don't have to worry about how or what you're going to give to your potential Valentine.
And I agree with what cheyannew said. It feels that Valentine's Day seems commercialized nowadays. I also see as a reason of excuse for someone to go out with someone for an expensive dinner, or, in my case, confess to someone you like just because it's a Valentine's Day (and still get rejected). |
