What makes you think the killings will stop and everyone can escape the island if Battler finds the gold?

The murders and the epitaph are not the only mysteries in the game. There's also other mysteries like the phone calls in the later games, and who taught Maria the trivia about the magic circles for example.

anyways this is what I feel is the truth:

Spoiler for my thoughts:

1) Genji is both the killer and Kinzo Ushiromiya himself.
- no one outside of the servent group ever seen these 2 together
- as it suggested that the real kinzo died and was store in the house itself, the servents would of fount him during cleaning chors, yet he wasn't.
- he knows the house inside out and even blind spots.
- he's always there when bodies are found

2) Maria Ushiromiya is Beatrice during the time that the family is on the island and Genji is Beatice during the time they are not.
- she alwasy believe in any kind of lies
- since she never know her own father, Genji can tell her that he's her father and want to help to bring her mother back to her, which is what she always wanted
- the servants even said that Beatrice has to possess someone to make contact in real world, so Genji can easily fool them by saying "I am Beatrice"

3) therefore, this is what Beatrice is: a deception.

Motive in all these is very simple: it was the order given by the real Kinzo before he dies to Genji. Kinzo knew what kind of kinds he has so he didn't want any of them to get the family's wealth. He need someone who is worthly from one of the child of his children to take over, so he told Genji to plot a murder to Kinzo's family to take out the unworthly and leave behind the worthly to take over.

I would just like to point out that when the servants said Beatrice "possessed" a body they meant that she had one in the past, not that she was a ghost who possesses people for kicks. I've seen this misconception a lot since the anime came out. Was this scene really that different from its VN counterpart? I don't get it.

I remember from reading the script of the game that there was one line that sticks out very much: "bordom kills a witch", so in a way there is a chance it is for "kicks".

I assume you already watched the whole anime, in that case you can read my answer, else watch that last episode first.

Spoiler for answer:

1) Kinzo was already dead before the start of the game, if Beatrice continued that kind of exchange Battler would have probably learned the truth. He already said that someone died because of a trap, then he said someone died because of an accident, he noticed that Beatrice refused to repeat that all the six were killed by other people. Battler was a step away from learning the truth.

Ronove realized that and thought it was strategically better to give up that battle to keep the powerful card of Kinzo still in play.


2) There isn't a completely sure answer to this question, but I think it is safe to say that they were all killed in the real world. The only real question is if Ange survived or died as well.

Suppose you want to play a game with a new friend and you challenge him to shoot hoops. He doesn't know the rules but you explain that he must make it so the ball passes through the basket.

And then that guy excuses himself for a moment and returns with a ladder. He then proceed to nonchalantly place the ball in the basket after climbing the ladder.

So then you explain him that you can't use ladders in this game!
But then he come up with something else equally ridiculous, he uses a rope to climb up. He uses a set of boxes, and so on. You keep repeating that you can't use that, you can't use that, you can't use that.

But seriously do you even need to say things that obvious? At one point you lose heart, surrender and say "whatever!"

It's a different thing when you explain things that actually need to be explained, but when you need to explain things that should be blatantly obvious it's only normal that at one point you lose heart and give up.

Battler was not "playing the game" anymore at that point. Bernkastel explains it in EP5. This game is a mystery you need to play according to the mystery rules, ignoring those rules is just a waste of time. The "small bombs theory" is a blatant infringement of those rules.


Then if you consider that Beatrice was already utterly disheartened because Battler didn't remember his sin you can get the whole picture.

Beatrice didn't want to play anymore, Battler wasn't playing seriously, at that point Beatrice just thought "that's it, I don't care anymore, just think whatever you want, get your victory with whatever ridiculous theory you like, kill me, just do it quickly."

That's my interpretation.

Spoiler for Episode 4:

The blue truth is a double edged sword and it is the 'detective version' of the red truth. The red truth is exclusive to the 'culprit side' of the story, because (as far as we know) you can only say things that are true in red.
Blue is a theory that is put forth and has to be countered with red. It is a direct act of agression as it tries to 'become' true. Once you cannot counter a blue with red, it becomes 'a truth'. It has no real downsides apart from having to be spot on in it's formulation or else it does not count.
It is like throwing a dart that earns you full point value, but if you hit anything but the center, it earns you nothing.

Blue truth does not even have to be plausible, it can be anything as long as it can't be countered by red. But that is also the harsh part about blue truth...it might lead you to just another corner of the catbox.

And I agree with the point that from a certain moment on Beatrice was just dissatisfied with what Battler was trying to do. He was not trying to solve the game, he was just trying to get out of it. In a figure of speech, he was hitting the gameboard so hard it fell over.

And let's be honest, who of us wasn't frustrated with how many theories he created in the last battle. Yes, they were funny as hell, but who can't understand Beatrice for being ready to give up.

Probably not, you need to give a proper explanation; unless the blue truth isn't effective, in that case it can simply be ignored.
