The episode direction for this show seems to really alternate...I thought 4 was great, was a bit disappointed in 5, but totally loved episode 6. It really seems to be all over the place which makes for a less consistent viewing experience than Yuyushiki. On the other hand, the core material is still really awesome -- I'm definitely loving this overall.

It's kind of awkward the way Shino always tries so hard with western clothing (I agree that she'd probably look really good in Japanese-style articles) but her outfits were actually pretty great this time. Dressing up as a 'fairy' for mountain hiking was still rather ridiculous (I was expecting some sort of heatstroke development) but it did make for some pretty interesting fashion...I'm quite enjoying the effort being put into this aspect.

Karen's accent is also growing on me -- feeling a bit more natural now. Tooyama Nao, right? Though I don't think I'd have caught her name just by voice or anything, I also enjoyed her as Ako in Saki.

Going over episode 5, I noticed that despite the five main girls are about the same age, some of their dynamics doesn’t reflect that. There seems to be some sort of subtle hierarchal relationship within the group. Specifically speaking, their interactions kind of resembles that of a family than group of friends.

The hierarchy looks somewhat like this:

Youko (The Father): Karen commented that Youko is like a mother, but father role fits her better due to her tomboyish nature.

Aya (The Mother): Let’s face it, she wants to become Youko’s bride despite constantly denying it.

Shinobu (The Eldest Sister): Youko said that Shinobu is all grown up now and acts like a big sister to Alice and Karen. Regardless of her blonde-con and airheadedness, she does act more mature than the latter two, and reprimand them when those two went overboard with their fight over her.

Alice (The Middle Sister): Sort of, she may look younger than Karen, she’s actually the older one. She often compares herself to Karen and takes their battle for Shinobu’s affection seriously.

Karen (The Youngest Sister): Younger than Alice despite looking older. Unlike Alice, she’s more laidback in fighting for Shinobu’s affection, but you know how the youngest ones tend to get more attention because they’re the newest member (Note: Alice used to be this before Karen comes along).

I was shocked to see how the relationship between the girls function more like a family than friends but regardless I see them like the girls from Little Women (one of those old anime I have nostalgia goggling all over it) due to the fact they act like inseparable sisters.

Spoiler for Episode 7:

Starting with the singing segment, I throughoutly enjoyed the whole episode due to the intriguing slice of life and how one of the girls can struggle about everything. Too bad Alice is incapable of running because of the cold season but throughout the time we see the impressive dialogue delivered by the characters like any other episode of Kinmosa. I'm liking the fact that though English is probably a very hard task for the Japanese, Shinobu accomplished a new work with a high grade and I clapped hands when she did. I really understand what the girls feel, and though Karen is English, it's weird for her to be bored during class, but that's to be expected for a highschooler. Let's see how it manages greatly later on.
