Could be the highlight of Winter 2020, which looks kinda sparse from this distance.

This really did give me some Dusk Maiden of Amnesia vibes, albeit with the dynamic gender-flipped and the humor and style being very much different. I thought it was a very strong premier .

Really rockin' Opening, showcasing the rest of the casts, and I imagine those silhouettes are either the other 7 mysteries or other spirits Hanako and Yashiro will have to contend with .

No worries Yashiro. I think your daikon-shaped legs are absolutely adorable, as is everything else about you .

The art style transferred over to the anime pretty well. That along with the humor puts it onto a pretty good start.

I want to feel bad for Nene, but she did bring this all onto herself.

Lovely unique art style. A visual treat. The humor wasn't really to my tastes though. It's not so bad that I will automatically drop the show. But it's not a completed sale for me yet. I'll watch more and keep at it as I see how the show develops.

Where I thought this set itself apart (as it continues to do, more and more) is that Nene figured that out herself and owned her mistake.

So...Hanako-boy is basically a school-bound Kitaro?

Also, his voice sounds really famili........oh it's Megumi Ogata using Shinji's voice, never mind.

Watched the first episode. It was ok. Some parts got a few chuckles from me. The lack of animation though (while obviously a stylistic choice) doesn’t really jive with me. Not expecting sakuga buuuut this is basically the manga but colored.

I think they animate it where it matters (eg. when that mermaid came out). And everything still looks beautiful. Also tbh, some comedic bits (which this episode has plenty) don't really need much animation. If anything, much animation can even ruin some of the jokes.

It's not like we're on the low level of DBZ TV where the showrunners just threw the colored manga pages on screen with some clunky movements & FX.

Not entirely sold yet on the premise, though I suspect that's because I watched the pilot episode after watching two shows with fantastic first episodes. Hoping this won't end up being a monster of the week type of thing.

Admittedly the story does develop rather slowly. Not sure where they'll animate up to

The idea of the apparitions that have change to suit the rumors about them is interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing what the story does with that idea.

Nene managed to find someone that has fallen for her. It's just too bad that he wants to exorcise her friend.

Yashiro's love life is still poor, even when she finds a possible new suitor in Minamaoto. But knowing her luck, her best romantic prospect will probably be Hanako .

Looks like they're going to add a new apparition to the Opening every episode .

So Hanako's weapon is from an apparent murder he committed before he died...and God sent him back as an apparition to make up for it? It was hard to tell how serious he was being, but I'm curious how much into Hanako's background we'll get into in this cour .
