Ryuko still is maybe a 95% guts fighter, but at least the 5% brains fighter (of which maybe 95% of what is shown of that is Senketsu) may be learning a little along the way.

I guessed the counter as soon as Gamagoori described the Shackle Regalia in a bit more detail. It just came down to when Ryuko would figure it out on her own.

However, Senketsu also gaining an additional ability was a nice surprise, even though Gamagoori foreshadowed it himself when he told Ryuko early in the fight that "That's your final transformation." Fortunately it appears that Senketsu will still mostly look like his first form when he does these new things.

So Gamagoori's biggest whip came out of his crotch and Senketsu bit it? Oy.

Figures Gamagoori wouldn't get to perform seppuku, but he's a standup guy after all.

Spoiler for Episode 9:

Finally the battle between Ryuuko and Ira commences in this new episode! The muscular guy is shown with his cool armor equipped with spiky threads made to whip the opponent. More hints at his encounter with Satsuki in the past was shown and one thing that gets added one more here is Ryuuko upgrading her second Senketsu form when she was shown to defeat Ira. At this point, the show reaches the step of a typical battle shonen series, only made more over-the-top in both story and execution, this arc itself is a glorified take on tournament arc with Inumata taking his own turn at the end. Let's see how Ryuuko will show her skills to him next time.

Really surprised that Ira's "Ideal Student" form wasn't shaped after Satsuki.

Are they not overstraching things? I really hoped to see main villain by now. Staff is being too greedy with plot. It has been several episodes that showed that Satsuki has some greater agenda in her mind time to develope that thread.

And wow they talk a lot despite being in the middle of intense fight.

This was still nine hundred times shorter than the average battle in a regular fighting show.

The homeroom teacher steps in pretty rarely.
But when he does, he usually gives good advice.
Matoi is too stubborn to listen to him though..
Maybe she's also too confident.
Taking all of the student council members is a dangerous thing.
Even the "weakest" one is still quite a challenge.
Gamagoori's past looked rather interesting in the flashback.
Guess each of the council members has some kind of a past with Satsuki.
Matoi seems to be operating on pure willpower and stubbornness ^^"
Her plans are basically hail marys that luckily turn out right.

I don't know how they do it but every fight in this anime manages to blow me away. Gamagoori was a very tough opponent, but Ryuko -or rather, Senkentsu- outwitted him. I'm hoping the upcoming battles against the rest of the student council will be as good and will require clever strategies in order to be won.

Senkentsu Senjin was freaking awesome and opened up a lot of possibilities (I assume this won't be Senkentsu's last transformation).

Hell yeah, another badass Goku Uniform to add to the now-growing repertoire. Interesting that Kamui can also change their form to suit the user's needs as well, but I guess that makes sense considering it's made of life fibre too. Wonder what other "forms" we'll see down the road.

Man this episode went by so quickly. I must've been really enjoying myself. Next week is Ryuko vs Inamuta, and I assume the next few episodes will follow this formula of Elite Four fights. Excited to see his Goku Uniform.~

After seeing the episode before, I guessed that Ira's first transformation was a shield to protect his inner second transformation. So when he exposed the second one with all the whips, I knew that Ryuko had to get close to him somehow and use her scissor blade to cut him. I didn't expect to see that it was Senkentsu itself that had the correct idea, then bit one of his whips and grabbed on to get close. Then her transformation inside broke Ira's shield and she just had to finish him off.

As I see this anime getting better is her use of logic and strategy instead of force (best shown in this episode), and now we will see how Ryuko and Senkentsu will win against an Elite who is all logic.

I gave the poll a vote of 10 (excellent). It isn't perfect but it is getting there.

Well you commented about it sooner than I did. Mako has a special crush on Ryuko, and in one past episode Mako admired Ryuko's breasts, and in another she fondled them. So when Ryuko's straps were saving her from falling, her breasts were exposed on TV. Maybe the future BD set will have them exposed as fan service for SHAFT customers.
