need help with Dolby Digital 5.1 output

I'm using mplayer rev14 test 4, and haven't been able to output dolby digital 5.1 successfully. And I thought that my new mini optic cable would be the last obstacle between me and 5.1 ...

Here are various results from different tries:

1. Apple DVD Player + Lord of The Rings DVD
- DD 6.1 detected successfully
- DTS 6.1 detected successfully

2a. Nanoha_The_Movie_1st_[720p][7137AF1D] + mplayer
- no sound detected

2b. Nanoha_The_Movie_1st_[720p][7137AF1D] + quick look/ quicktime player
- DD 5.1 detected successully

3. Thora's Macross F movie FLAC + mplayer
- sound detected as 2 channels

4. UTW Summer Wars 1080p True HD 5.1 + mplayer
- sound detected as 2 channels ... and playback stops after several seconds. Too much work for CPU?

5a. UTW Thora Evangelion 2.22 + mplayer
- DTS 6.1 detected successfully

5b. UTW Thora Evangelion 2.22 + quick look/ quick time
- DTS 6.1 detected successfully

6a. BSS Gundam Unicorn + mplayer
- no sound detected

6b. BSS Gundam Unicorn + quicklook
- DD 5.1 detected successfully

Apparently in my case, mplayer can pass DTS, but not Dolby Digital. Any ideas where things go wrong?

Is anyone else having issues with the binaries included in rev 14 test 4 actually using the embedded font of subtitles in mkv files? I've been having issues with certain ones where it just uses some bland white blocky font. If I use the mplayer.git binary that was posted in this thread a while back, though, it works fine.

Don't update to mplayer.git 2011-01-08, I fucked up something

I forgot to link the BS2B filter libraries. If 2011-01-08 fails spectacularly please uncheck Virtual speakers for headphones in the Audio preferences. Will release a fix later.

edit: fixed in 2011-01-09

I think the update error occurs because I changed the archive name from past versions. I'll look into this.

EDIT: Should be fixed now.

Make sure you are using the latest version which is Mplayer OSX Extended Rev14.
Also make sure in Preferences, Mplayer: That you click on "Official Mplayer SVN with FFmpeg-MT" and then click "use this binary". It should turn bold.

The default "Official Mplayer SVN" version does not support multi-core cpus, so by default it will always try to do all decoding on 1 core, instead of using both.

Since 1080p playback is quite demanding, the FFmpeg-MT(for multi-threading, as in multi-core) version is required for smooth playback.

Hope this helps!

Quick question, I tried googling but didn't turn up an answer (apologies in advance if its on google). Is there a command line switch to enable dynamic range compression? In particular in 5.1 channel FLAC audio. During playback of MKV files with FLAC surround audio the dialogue is not as loud as the other channels and makes it difficult to hear. A sample of this issue would be playing DGz evangelion 2.22 file.

Okay so played around with the app this weekend, and I know why the dialogue sounds low. Seems that the center channel is only sent to the left channel, this occurs with your build pigoz and the built in MT build as well. I don't see a way to mess around with the mixer so any other suggestions? Also, Pigoz with that command line switch enabled, dialogue comes out clearer but its still only being sent to the left channel.

Late reply but I am going to chalk this one up to the file in question being weird. I played some other multi-channel audio files I have and didn't have a problem.

how do you change the amount of seconds you fast-forward or rewind when you press the arrow key [<] or [>]? mine is set to like 15 seconds and i would like it to be only 5

^ in terminal:
Code:
defaults write hu.mplayerhq.mplayerosx.extended MPESeekStepSmall 5
or if you want some number of seconds other than 5 use that number instead

you can change a lot of constants for mplayer like that http://tracker.mplayerosx.ch/projects/1/wiki/Constants

Hi Pigoz,

It's been 6 months since your last build of mplayer for mplayer osx extended, mind building a new one?

Thanks a bunch
