Kon'nichiwa Anne ~Before Green Gables~
Kon'nichiwa Anne ~Before Green Gables~ こんにちは アン 〜Before Green Gables
Series: World Masterpiece Theater Animation Production: Nippon Animation Based upon: Budge Wilson's Before Green Gables, itself an authorized prequel to Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables. Staff: Director: Yatabe Katsuyoshi, Screenplay: Shimada Michiru, Character Design: Nishimura Takao (5cm per Second) Website: http://www.nippon-animation.co.jp/before_GG/ I'm surprised no one's started a topic for Kon'nichiwa Anne, the latest installment in the famous World Masterpiece Theater series, but I've just seen the first episode and loved it. It reminded me of so many other great WMT shows, like A Little Princess Sara and Ie Naki ko Remi, and I loved how they presented the backgrounds and characters so skillfully and beautifully. The scene near the end was heartwarming and touching, so reflective of the WMT standard. I haven't actually seen the first Anne of Green Gables series, which was worked on by the great Takahata Isao, Miyazaki Hayao and Kondou Yoshifumi, who were all to later to go on and found Studio Ghibli, but this has really piqued my interest to do so. Overall, a truly perfect start. |

Looks a lot like Canada (especially the 7th picture down in Celestial Kitsune's review), albeit far brighter then it ever seems to get on your average day.

They did a nice job of following the novel, talking about her being in Nova Scotia -- this story is from before she went to Prince Edward Island.
I thought ep1 was well done in the standard World Masterpiece Theatre way. My only problem is that the emotional effect on me was so strong that I'm not sure I can take the rest of the story, lol.

Just wanted to say a great TAHNK YOU for the subbers of this show. I just happen to LOVE the Green Gables anime. But then, it was directed by no other than Isao Takahata. I just hope that this series come a little closer, that will be cool enough.
WMT for life.

Akage no An was my fist anime and is my most favourite anime of all time, and Anne of Green Gables is my most favourite book of all time, so I'm definitely watching this to the end, but unfortunately it isn't anywhere as good as Akage no An was. The general mood and quality of the show is more like Les Miserables than anything, it has none of the charm that Akage no An had. (still very watchable though)
