KoiChoco wasn't much of a tearjerker though. Only the last few episodes were sad but at least it doesn't make me tear up (that's your personal opinion though).

Both looks quite interesting, havn't heard of either through, but I will sure give both a chance once I've finished Fruit Basket.

I haven't really been brought down to tears by any anime thus far. I don't think I have literally cried in the last decade at all. At least I don't remember it.

But the following anime, off the top of my head, got me feeling very sad at times:

Mushishi
Monster
Mononoke (+Bakeneko from Ayakashi, and Bakeneko is probably the saddest arc in the show even though the others were quite sad too)
Honey and Clover (or, unrequited love: the anime lol ;_
Aoi Bungaku with its sad arcs (Ningen Shikkaku, Kokoro, Run Melos especially)
Welcome to the NHK
Jigoku Shoujo
Now and then, Here and there
Haibane Renmei

There are many other titles I want to mention but while they all have their moments, the number of shows that actually made me feel really really sad consistently is rather low. I second some of the mentions in the thread like 5cmps, Grave of the fireflies etc. too.

For the record, I don't find any of the titles mentioned in your opening post consistently or particularly sad. So you might wanna be cautious with the shows I mentioned because they are really sad, especially if you can relate to the content.

A lot of great shows have been listed, but I'll just second Kimi ga Nozomu Eien . If you don't mind something more mature, this is a great one. You won't forget it.
Also Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann! Don't pass that one up if you haven't seen it.

I'm reserving all other comments until you watch Bokurano.

I tried watching it, However I don't really get that feeling for this anime, It's something in it that I don't like, but i can't really put words to it. I'm also notreally that pleased with the art of the characters.
I'll probably give it another try at a later time, but for now I'll put it on hold

Also updated the list with another pair of animes i've watched!

Started watching this just now as you mentioned it, I must say i really love the story so far, I'm not done with it yet, but it's amazing and will for sure make the list. So sad yet beautiful story, and I really like the characters, they're so cute and innocent, it makes you feel really connected to the characters.

Seeing as I absolute adore tragic dramas (i.e. "tear-jerkers) there are several I would like to add to your list:

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (a short, six episode OVA series involving a tragic romance set in a hospital)
Kobato. (a seemingly light-hearted series that packs an emotional punch once you understand what's going on)
Sola (a series involving the supernatural in a way that's very similar in tone to AIR and Kanon)
Hotarubi no Mori e (this short film isn't exactly a tear-jerker but the end is somberly melancholic)

Well Mohiro Kitoh is very polarizing: people tend to either love or hate his other work.

But yeah it's quite different than all my other recommendations so you still might check them out.

This thread has a lot of great recs too:

Agree, that OVA was so sad... I would say that anyone who didn't at least shared a tear at the end is a total jerk.

Yup, both of them are really good and both really sad...

Yeah, it was sad. I would wish they make more anime like Hotarubi.

Given the amount of tears that were claimed to have been shed at it's finale, I'm surprised no one mentioned Tasogare Otome x Amnesia from Spring this year One of my personal favorite Supernatural Story as well.

Voting for this too. There's a reason this one is considered classic.

Recomending 5 cm per second too, although for me, this one slide more toward depressing than tear-jerking. It's a story about the journey of a man unable to move on from his innocent childhood love.

One other show that might fit is Moshidora. It has the requisite beautiful but sickly girl. In that it reminds me of Air (dubbed stream)
