This week's episode dropped and I had pretty much forgotten about Sumi. Glad she got good air time to remind me that she's Mizuhara's shy friend, who needs lots of self confidence.

Sumi did GOOD this episode. Coincidentally, she was nearby when Kazuya confessed his pledge to support Mizuhara after the play. I really felt bad for Sumi at the end as she herself dedicated much of the date for Mizuhara. It was cool she took Kazuya to see Rent-A-Fighter, and I thought he was going to record some of the action on his phone to show his support when the flashback was shown that Mizuhara wanted to be on TV.

After the date was "clocked out", Sumi gets her own personal win by learning when his birthday is! Yep, instantly added to calendar so she'll never forget. These are the ones who really care about you Kazuya. And she's right, presents are all about sentiments and meaning.

Not sure what dried plums represent in Japanese culture, but the bag on the balcony was probably the highlight of it for me. Afterwards, the note itself was about 50/50 - I guess he had to reassure her once again that nothing really happened.

Very fitting that she was in her Birthday Suit for us viewers! (But nothing beats the Street Fighter II Animated Movie Chun Li shower scene for me)

I'm glad to see Sumi, and she was able to say some lines, even though she's a good texter. I hope to see her again as she grows more confidence in herself.

Kazuya is a simple (simp) man. Chizuru thanking him for the birthday gift and finally believing him about Ruka is enough to put him on cloud 9, even if she still thinks his gift was a tad old-fashioned .

Kibe is back and making dick jokes and asking Kazuya about his (non-existent) sex life. He better pray Chizuru never finds out about him saying they've done it though .

Kazuya has such great pals who ask him out for a drinking party and rag and hate on him the whole time for being a "normie" with a hot girlfriend .

Well, Chizuru's gal pals are only slightly better by taking her out to celebrate the fact that she can now legally drink at 20 and also help her snag a man while she's out by surprising her with Kazuya's group. So this drinking party gets turned into a mixer with Kazuya and Chizuru desperate to make sure no one finds out she's Chizuru Mizuhara .

Chizuru really living that Clark Kent life of glasses, different hairstyle/makeup, and frumpier clothes making all the difference in no one realizing you're a bombshell...even though her drunk friends are more than happy to show off her boobs .

Kuri talking about a porn star in front of three other girls...is it any wonder he doesn't have a real girlfriend at this point ?

Of course the one minor in the group still gets drunk off the atmosphere and teases Chizuru by taking her glasses off...thankfully everyone's too plastered to care beyond making celeb jokes .

Admittedly I kind of want to see Chizuru drunk, and she gulps her booze down surprisingly well, but it's a lot for a first-time drinker and to Kazuya's credit he sacrifices himself to chug down as much as possible so she doesn't have to. Even when people think he's stupid, he'll still do it to protect Chizuru and make up for lal she's done for him. And you can tell immediately from her eyes how meaningful it was to her when she realized it .

Well, unsurprisingly Kazuya's too drunk to even make it back to his apartment, but Chizuru repays the favor and helps him all the way into his room and even comforts him while he barfs everything out. Total "neighborly" thing to do and not at all romantic...is what I'm sure Chizuru would say, but still, it shows how grateful she was and how she wasn't judging him at all despite his less than stellar state. And it was cute how he fell asleep on-top of her and Chizuru just accepted it .

Next week...Mami vs Ruka !

Of all the days of the week that he is free, she isn't, but "coincidentally" for the sake of the story, they run into each other at the mixer.

With friends just as pathetic as he is, Kazuya once again does something to help Mizuhara avoid getting plastered. Surprised he also didn't down glasses of water to stay sober.

It was an ok episode. Mizuhara was only doing the bare minimum while at his place, and only when he really started throwing up did she give some back rubs, but I feel like she was not doing it out of compassion/friendship, but out of necessity. It's like she cared for his well being, but not at 100% yet.

Next week should be good with the two hot heads pitted against each other.

Episode 17: Sumi's such a pure soul; way too good for this show xD

Episode 18: Kazuya actually did well here. He vowed to protect Chizuru and he did exactly that. Even though he went through hell for it. Stupid..but noble. (it's funny how often those two go hand in hand)

I'd like point out though.....if your friends have no concern for your well-being first time drinking, YOU NEED BETTER FRIENDS.

For real, that shit pisses me off. Just fucking say "NO." Who cares if you come off as a "wet blanket"? They'll be too shit-faced to even remember anything later. And if they make fun of you for saying no, take a video of them being jackasses and post it to youtube for revenge

I mean, you're right but Mami doesn't annoy me as much.

What's more is the story treats Mami as an actual antagonist (which she is) but Ruka gets off SCOTT-FREE...that's the worst part, really

What an episode! I think it's worth watching the chaos play out over again.

Ruka really claimed her possession and made it known to Mami. Mami is stunned but lets herself out, questioning everything and plotting her revenge. And what a coincidence, to discover the bag she saw the other night on Mizuhara, solving her little jealously puzzle.

Mizuhara feeling very uneasy and weary over the whole train encounter. Had to straight face lie to Mami's question, which proved Mami's theories correct. Now Mami goes to target Kazu's followers and preys on sweet old grandma.

Also what kind of shit bag friend of Kazuya still talks to his ex and gives her all the details?

I guess I can't say I'm surprised Kazuya got all hot and bothered at seeing Chizuru's legit contact information, even if it's pretty pathetic how he couldn't even try to Friend his fake girlfriend...although it's not like she's much better when she can't do it herself .

I love how Ruka is shocked her plan to rile up Chizuru didn't work. Like, she acts like Kazuya's supportive and understanding girlfriend but she's amazed Chizuru actually believed him .

Kibe calls out Mami for leading Kazuya on and yet he gives her his work address like it's nothing .

Oh hey, they threw in Mami's Character Song in the background! That was neat .

I'd been waiting for Ruka vs. Mami the whole time, and it did not disappoint! Like Ruka figuring out the whole situation and then calling out Mami for all her BS and actually hitting her where it hurts! It was a really great Ruka moment .

Ruka pours her heart out for Kazuya and takes so much pride in being his girlfriend...and he has no idea what to do with her. I mean, instead of wasting time on the girl you can't even Friend, why not at least try taking Ruka seriously ?

Of course, Mami's not going to just take this lying down...especially when Chizuru shows up and basically confirms all of Mami's suspicions and that they're still lying. And it looks like she's going after Kazuya's family next .

Mami's seiyuu makes her even better from the way she goes from sounding all cutesy to badass whom not even thirsty nanpa want to mess with. I absolutely love how intimidating this character is...with even just one look or one word. She scares the pants off everyone she meets eyes with. It's great.

ANN favors Mami for obvious reasons; she's fun....while lots of people on MAL seem to hate her 'because ebil'. Come on; she needs to be in this freaking show to get anyone to do ANYTHING lol

Ruka crying like a baby just makes me want to smack her upside the head and scream; she's so fucking annoying

What, you like spoiled crybaby brats?

To each their own, I suppose

Thing is, if Miyajima cared about his other girls BESIDES Chizuru (it's very clear he does not)...it would have been very easy to make Ruka actually sympathetic. If she was clingy because of some past trauma or had an anxiety disorder? That would make me a lot less angry at her.

The heartbeat thing is just kinda stupid to me and doesn't make any sense.

I like how she's honest and straight with her feelings. Sometimes she comes off too forceful and like she's deluding herself, but she still feels genuinely earnest and sincere, especially for a girl dealing with her first love.

The only somewhat well written character is Mami. She is the Divine Retribution punishing the MC for all his bullshit instead of taking it with a smile like the rest of the cast.

Fair enough. I loved that about Marika from Nisekoi; she was my second fave...but also she trolled the whole cast so hard that it was funny as hell.

That was a surprisingly cute scene of Ruka and Kazuya on the phone together, with Ruka actually apologizing for her outburst and being self-reflective, even though Kazuya didn't mind it. It was just a really nice call between the two of them, with some nice shots of Ruka's legs swinging about !

Meanwhile Mami is just chilling out and plotting her revenge...

I guess it was only a matter of time before Chizuru graduated from being a rookie what with how high-class and effective she is as a rental girlfriend .

Kazuya feels like it's time to treat himself, and what better way to do that than by trying to live out his failed youth and multiple high school rejections by having Chizuru and himself dress up in school uniforms and act like a high school couple? I mean, it's two college students dressing up as high schoolers, even if they (especially Chizuru) wear their uniforms well, but I guess it's better than the implication that some (adult) guys have just made Chizuru dress up as a high school girl because they wanted to know that it's like to date one .

I guess Chizuru does tend towards longer skirts and her figure has developed enough that her uniform now leaves little to the imagination. But she just appreciates knowing she can still pull off playing a schoolgirl .

Was that Chizuru's character song I heard at some point? We've heard Mami's, Chizuru's...I don't think we've heard Ruka or Sumi's yet .

Chizuru definitely feels...different, on this date. Less prickly towards Kazuya, less resistant, more open to him and what he wants to do, and taking her own initiative to keep the date going in a natural, non-fake, way. Not to mention the fact that she kept blushing, especially when they bugged. She even apologized for slapping him after he accidentally grabbed her boob! It seems like her feelings for Kazuya have finally started to hit deep .

Surprise Sumi appearance! To be honest I think she'd just as well politely leave them alone if she spotted them, but hiding let Kazuya see Chizuru's butt up close in that skirt, so no harm done. Also I like seeing Sumi's Kazuya senses tingling. She's totally shopping for a birthday gift for him, isn't she ?

Got to take a couple purikura! Although they make you go pretty far with couple stuff for those pictures .

No better way to cap off a high school date than with a ferris wheel ride with Chizuru and her thighs in close proximity towards you! And that scene of her adjusting her socks was pretty great! And in the end Kazuya got the couple picture he was after the whole time !

That's great news that Chizuru has another acting gig, and even better that she made sure to tell Kazuya, and he seems so happy for her .

I love how in the next episode preview Ruka is complaining about Chizuru stealing her school uniform gimmick and we have her trying to ingratiate herself into Kazuya's family. Also looks like she's going to plant one on Kazuya .

This was an ok-wholesome epsiode. We get all 4 girls in various scenes. Ruka apologizing is the adult thing to do, even though she wanted to keep the conversation going.

Mami plotting her evil revenge. Poor grandma's gonna get sucked into the drama, and I feel bad about what will transpire.

A Sumi sighting! She's gotta be looking for a b-day gift for Kazuya. Remember the hat he wore last time when they were on a date?

Mizuhara seemed...kinda off in this date. Not her usual snappy self, but more calm and collected. Too bad Kazuya never changes and can't play it cool, because for sure if he did, the hand kiss in the photobooth might have actually been a real kiss.

He hit all his date plans in one date, and unless the ferris wheel suddenly stopped (it probaby did, but we don't know for sure since the scene shows a rollercoaster go by), he was pretty skeevy in losing his balance but intentionally landing himself on her. He deserved the pushback from her, but he should have apologized first, asking if she's ok.

I'm surprised Mizuhara went back to normal very soon after, and completely went into her personal mode, not date mode, talking about her career aspirations and goals.

This is at the point where Kazuya is admiring her and asking himself what is he doing. And in true Kazuya style, he declares internally that he will do what he can to support her. Which, to me, at his stage in life is pretty pathetic, as he himself doesnt have any of his own career aspirations to work towards. I really wish he could talk normally about his own life goals, which would make the date more normal and fulfilling.

Anyways, two more things:

1) Since they're neighbors, I wonder how they handled commuting to/from the meeting place and going home. I can understand going separately and meeting up at the beginning of the date, but what about at the end?

2) Someone is bound to find the photobooth pics right? Maybe Sumi if she takes solo pics?

I think Kazuya's just planning to take over the family business so he doesn't think too much about his own future.

Also....as pathetic as he can be, I can relate to him wanting to relive his youth and have 'the perfect high school date'....cause I sure as hell never had one of those myself. I bet lots here didn't either.

Yes, that is true that he is.

I think the other poster was wondering what type of career Kazuya is going to have for himself....

Because he can't make a career out of supporting his girlfriend.....or maybe he could if he decided to write movies for her to star in...but he doesn't have talent like that.
