Well, he certainly looks different from his LA version, but with just enough recognizable elements to say that he is Gridman.

Neat. So at least 2 of TRIGGER's new series will air next year. If Promare starts during the spring or summer, the year will be perfect.

it seems the new Gridman design suffered the current Ultraman trend syndrome of having glowing neon parts on his entire body, still not sure which Ultraman started the trend though.

Tron lines are a syndrome that's been taking over sci-fi for the past 3 decades now.

To be honest the tron lines are present in the original series’ depiction of the cyber world, so it fits the aesthetic

you do realize the founder & staff of Trigger were former Gainax members right?

not necessarily Gridman but referencing Tsuburaya works in general, heck i think it could be also a throwback to young Hideaki Anno making an 'Ultraman' parody movie with him playing the 'Ultraman' (which is just him dressing up without a mask & the typical miniature set),

also i think newer Ultraman designs looked Eva-ish in appearance starting from Ultraman Noa from the Nexus series.

Yeah, but the effect isn't nearly as bad in real life because they're still guys in suits...for the most part. I'm not a fan of the heavily armored newer Ultraman designs (Ultraman X. Ugh.) but the ones that strike a balance of armored and sleek are best. Gridman works because he's just the right level opf armored and sleek in basic form. And when he combines with the support mecha he goes full mecha in appearance so I'm okay with that as well.

That picture is too fuzzy but it looks too hodgepodge a design. I would have loved something that's at least closer in design to classic Gridman.

looking at the official website, seems there's going to be an update in AnimeJapan. BTW, I just realized that veteran Toku writer Keiichi Hasegawa is writing this, now I have a bigger confidence this series will nailed it.

I wasn't expecting children as the focus, but I think the Animator Exhibition short was called "Kids make Great Hero", so I can kind of guess what this is going for.
