I broke my own "no fansubs" rule for this one. Watched the fansub of Episode 1, and liked how they translated Tenmon-bu to "Asstronomy Club" in order to show how the kanji for it is slightly different than the ones for "Astronomy Club."

Loved the Saint Seiya references. And since they are also gonna sub Episode 2, I will look forward to it.

I can't really understand why, but it is not popular in Japan, either. Or at least on 2channel, where it is still on its first thousand-post thread. Other shows have more: e.g., Kokoro Connect 6 (i.e., 5000+ posts), Koi to Senkyou 6, Joshiraku 16, Tari Tari 18, Jinrui 20, Sword Art Online 75. Even Natsuyuki Rendezvous has four threads, and that's a Noitamina show not aimed at otaku.

Maybe Ebiten is funny in a way that doesn't appeal to the Japanese fans who would watch for the fanservice, and the fanservice alone is not intense enough to hold them (and there is too much fanservice for people who object to it). Also, the show is only on NicoNico, and the quality is less watchable than on TV.

I personally didn't enjoy ep2 as much as ep1, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit -- despite the fact that I couldn't understand some of what they said. Kanamori was hilarious.

Enjoyed ep3. Totally mad, and yet.... There were probably some more shows referenced in there, but I didn't get which. Loved the humour, anyway. Ab...surd. You never knew quite where you stood.
