I'm surprised that they used an oasis track for the OP. I didn't knew about this anime before, but i'm impressed by the first episode. I'll definitely keep following this one. |

Well I got no clue where this story is headed, but the characters were great so I don't mind being taken on abit of a ride for awhile before a plot forms.
Was immensely grateful to see them headed back to japan at the end though...Find it hard to stomach America in anime most of the time...Countries bad enough without being portrayed with rampant engrish.

We need one of our Hero "standing tall" wearing nothing but a strategically placed raveling white ball of thread, too! I thought that was more ingenious than the usual elephant head or placard...

Desire's subs are fine, they're just a bit more of a direct translation as opposed to gg. They also have a 810p version that is superior to gg's release (I didn't download Desire's 720p version, so I can't say how that one compares to gg's one).

Oh my God, this is the most excited I've been about the first episode of an anime in a really long time. I hadn't heard a damn thing about this series before, except that the opening theme was in english... and I love it. So, getting to the symbolism...
I've checked, and it doesn't seem like the stuff is necessarily from the bible. Googling it in quotes gets nothin', so... My initial reaction is to be at a loss. But I think we'll find out more soon enough. Quote:
Akira ain't Jesus. He's ADAM. It's why he shows up naked and innocent. Would this make Saki Eve? I suspect she is, but we'll prob'ly find out more. Betcha we'll see fig leaves somewhere in this anime. I also suppose it goes without saying now that that apple has to be a reference to original sin in the ending theme? Come to think of it, could we consider the paper a metaphor for creation? Who knows. Just a casual side note: I go to college in DC. As I watched the first few seconds, my immediate reaction was to think, "hey, that looks like my college..." Lo and behold, eh? I was actually just in that area last weekend, 'cause there was a cherry blossom festival on Pennsylvania Avenue... If you look closely at Akira's map, Pennsylvania Avenue is shown there. I also loved that he was outside the Spy Museum... Goddamn, is that appropriate, eh? There were also ads for the air and space museum thrown in there. Been to both. It's kinda cool to see places you really recognize in an anime. |

That was such a fun and, not to mention, intriguing episode. I love the almost haphazard flow of the direction (not something I usually see from Kamiyama's works), as well as the character designs, which I thought suit the atmosphere of the first episode.
