Sorry for bumping, but I finished S2 a month or two ago. I personally thought it was just alright, but then again I never thought Rika brought anything to the plot. Keichii was better though.
I gave S1 a 8.5. I gave S2 a 7.2 just because of how interesting Takano's flashback was. |

I really liked the second and despite having a few to almost no deaths, it was still suspenseful and it ended the story really well. Although I really hated the fact that all the deaths were created by man and not some god, I really liked how it ended and how Rika finally defeated fate. What happens next is up to fanfic authors now. I wish I could be more articulate but there is nothing I write that hasn't already been said.

If you are interested in that, I recommend the manga-only chapter "Limit" from the anthology Kataribanashi-hen, which shows a possible after-Matsuribayashi storyline. The English translation is not so good (grammar), but the story hits the Higurashi mood very well und what happens there is really disturbing.
