Man, I have to say, Jou just completely trounced Soma D0=. I mean, the results were obvious, but I didnt' think it'd be so obvious simply by looking at both dishes' visual representation. Soma has his father's ingenuity, but not the base knowledge about various cultures and even foods that Jou has at his disposal. It's nice when Soma whips up a dish on the fly, but eventually, he'll need to hit the library or something to expand his horizons when it comes to different foods and how to use them. I'd imagine a simple diner, despite how delicious the food is/was, would be sorely lacking in that department for a chef maestro.

Nice episode that showed there is a huge gap in skill between Souma and his father. Not that there was much doubt about that
Next week we start a new arc. I can only imagine how happy DragoonKain will be when he watches the preview for the next episode Also is it just me or did the singing in the ending somehow get worse?

Yea, I felt that way too. Too little going on considered that it is usually very well-paced. We have 2 episodes of nothing much going on and I seriously doubt these two episodes really help in building the future plots. The most it needed was half episode and maybe start introducing the next arc using either quarter or half of the episode. We all know Soma is far from Jouichiro's league so don't really need the emphasis anymore.

Erina: Hubby, don't you think "our" son is kinda terrible? Disown him, I suggest? Soma: Wow..wow...Hold your breathe, Eri-, I mean, step-mother... Joichiro: My beloved wife, you are just prejudice. Can you see how cute was Soma? Erina: But..but...*touching her belly* Joichiro: Soma, you will be big brother soon. Soma: YEAH~! Erina *talking to herself*: Why is Soma ended up became my step-son? Is this a punishment from heaven? |

Soma vs his dad!
Looks like Megumi still isn't over the events from the camp. Both father & son know how to surprise with their coking. It's gonna be hard to decide the winner this time... or not. The kid has a lot to learn to catch up to his dad.

And to no one's surprise, Soma was violently beaten into the ground, buried, dug up and then buried again for good measure. Shows you can't compete against Joichiro with merely and excellent dish. It has to be able to move mountains. That's okay though, I'm sure eventually beat his father beofre the 500th match... which will be just after losing to him 499 times. Quote:

Besides with the recent revelation about her connection to Joichiro, he's moved on to Erina in desperation hopes that there something there that links with Soma's childhood. Meh, I was honestly expecting this from the start anyway despite not being I would have preferred. Unless they rush it's going pretty diffcult to devote time to everything in the allotted slots. |

You know, as an Indonesian myself, I almost didn’t recognize the tempeh (or simply “tempe” in my language) portrayed in this episode despite the food originated from my country . Why? Because somebody forgot to draw the soy texture on the tempe’s surface like this:
I do agree with Jo’s cooking in this episode where he combined tempe with Ramen with light broth. We Indonesian often do that by eating fried tempe with soup (although we add some rice too since most Indonesian are heavy-eaters). Though as an Indonesian, I can’t say that Jo’s Ramen-Tempe combination is lightyears better than Soma’s Apple-Risotto. Jo's cooking might excels in seasoning and nutriton, but I’d say both cookings should taste closely good even though it’s different. Still, for people who prefer something fresh, warm and brothy in the morning, I can see them prefering Jou’s Ramen-Tempe than a “dry” food like Soma's Apple-Risotto. So yes, Soma is defeated but it’s not really a curbstomb in my eyes. Go for it Soma, you can do it! PS: Even though the thing between Jo & Erina isn't necessarily romantic, this episode with the whole Erina blushing and being flustered and desperate when she saw a glimpse of Jo really did try hard to drive the "JoxRina" into our heads as anime-only watchers .
