Problem solved. Just fill in random number that I found over the internet in fps syntax (they say it's 29.97, I have no idea what's with that number).

You'll need GAP (GIMP animation package) .. google it.

Its a bit different.. but download GAP, and learn the basic.. it should be easy after you familiarise with GAP

I have a question that i couldn't find in the OP. If its already been answered than hopefully someone can point me to the post.

I've just started experimenting with GIMP and there's one thing i cant seem to find. How do i lower the quality of my gif to save on file size? Is there an equivalent to the lossy function?

There's a little plugin [save for web] for gimp I think I did give a link for it in this thread.

Search for keyword gimp from my posts in this thread.. should give you the link needed

You can use gradient tool for layer mask as well.

Sorry to ask, but how do I download and save fonts to Adobe Illustrator on an IMAC computer? I'm new to a mac computer of course (since it's for Graphic design).

i have a couple of avatars that i want to put borders on
however its a bit embarassing to post on the avatar request page since its a ton lot

im a total noob at this whole thing and dont have anything to start with (only paint...:@)
so im wondering if someone could guide me how to start off? which program i should download and so on? this is not only so i can do borders myself but make avatars in general

Cats have listed the free alternatives of Photoshop, try them out and see for yourself which suits you better. We cant tell you which is better... you must feel it for myself. You can also get PS, by fair means or not, its up to you. Most of the tutorials here is in photoshop, but its redoable in gimp (the closest to PS, albeit harder UI to newbies).

Creating borders in Pixelmator.

What is Pixelmator?
Pixelmator is a cheap Photoshop alternative for the Mac which sports some similarities and powerfulness of Photoshop which is easy to use.

Border Tutorial:
1. Create a new document and open your pictures you want to use.
2. Using the Selection tool on the toolbox, drag where you want the border to be. If you want to put a border around the whole picture, you can do that by selecting the whole picture by going to Edit > Select All or Command+A
3. Create a new, transparent layer and drag it to the top of the list of layers.
4. Go to Edit > Stroke... This dialog will appear:

In this dialog, you can change the color of the border and the size of the border. After setting the desired settings, press OK and your border will appear on your picture.

Tip: Double Borders: To do a double border, first make a white stroke, 2 pixel and do the same, but with a black border at 1 pixel.

Installing Fonts in Mac OS X

Manually
Mac OS X handles fonts differently. Fonts are stored in:
/Library/Fonts (Fonts stored in here can be used systemwide)
/Users/<username>/Library/Fonts (Fonts stored in here can only be used by the specified username)
Mac OS X will support ttf and ffil formats.

To install fonts, just drag it to:
/Library/Fonts (If you want it accessible to all the users)
/Users/<username>/Library/Fonts (If you want it accessible to yourself)

With Fontbook
Mac OS X also contains Font Book, which allows you to manage your fonts on your computer.

To add multiple fonts, click on the + button and then specify the folder where your fonts you want to install, then press OK.

im pretty sure it wasn't covered on the first page.... i want to get frames from a dvd but vdub only does video files are there any free programs that can get frames from dvds or is there some way for vdub to get frames from a dvd
