I agree. The scene where Welkin cries over Isara's death was something the game lacked, and I feel it would have fitted in perfectly in the game. Dunno why it wasn't there in the first place...

Additionally, a better look at Rosie's childhood and why she hated Darcsens really fleshed out her character more, even if she was made a little more of a bitch in the anime. But can you really blame her after watching how her parents died?

Last, but not least, we got a pretty kickass fight between Alicia and Selvaria at Ghirlandaio, which I even used (partially) in my Lone Wulf fanfic. If you've read the 8th chapter, you'll understand what I mean. (lol, I sound like an advertisement here)

Overall, the anime had its own strengths in comparison to the game, but also had its weaknesses. I really wish they could've done an episode devoted to The Edy Detachment, but I guess that would've deprived from the central experience.

Seconding this. I usually steer clear of most anime but i really enjoyed this one. I was told to expect to be disappointed so went into it with a negative opinion, but as soon as the story gets going, it gets good. They expand on the games major plot points, and how they handle Alicia at the end was a fantastic way to seperate the anime from the game for a while, giving people who played the game something new.

Despite the above users' claims to the otherwise, all interest of ever picking up the anime was lost here. I don't care if they don't focus on the battles. I find character interactions more interesting anyway. I HATE the "typical anime love-triangles" though, and from what I've heard Alicia's been tsundered up, and I HATE tsunderes. Furthermore, I've heard that they do a Valkyria v. Valkyria battle at Ghrilandio, and while I admittedly haven't actually watched it to see how it was done, I believe that just the very nature of the fight undermines a very important theme that the game was pushing. It may make me close minded, but I'll live with that. I'll continue to give the anime a pass. With very few exceptions I'm not a huge anime fan, and VC doesn't seem to bring anything that would be worthwhile to me to the table.

Like I said, only toward the end will the romance get more attention and only to serve the outcome of the story

This is not the case here b/c Alicia isn't really a tsundere. Sure, she's easily aggravated about the things she doesn't understand (like Welkins logic) - but on the other hand she's very honest about her feelings (tsunderes are Absolutely not) and expects Welkin to do same but the guy cannot comprehend it.
So I would say that her frustration is well founded

And I say "typical" b/c the third party is again only there to strengthen the relationship between the obvious pairing

My main disappointment with the Anime is they didn't use the Airplane at the end, that would have been really nice touch, otherwise, I pretty much like it.

Sucks i won't be able to understand a single word of it, but the soundtrack selection will be pretty awesome. I don't know if the West will get this though, which is a major pain. It'd be a great addition, especially how it helps explain VC1 to those who never played it.

I would even buy it! But sadly it's not an artbook but a Fan Book which means there will only be a few full size artworks in it and the rest is episode summaries with lots of screencaps, interviews with the staff and maybe character introductions....

I prefer my artbooks to have nothing but artworks in them
