Another stab at the mahou shoujo trope, while providing a crisis moment in the narrative. Ruby is still being a dick just the way I like her to be. Next episode is going to be fun with her in it. Actually, if you think from the classmate's pov, the day before they saw Illya force raep maid Miyu and the day after they are having cold shoulder. Link those two together and the story is so fun.
Man...2wei when???

Well I suppose a good episode to remind us there are secondary characters .
Bit of fun with the Sella jokes. Certainly no one shocked about Ilya pulling out of this. Certainly makes things complicated for Illya. Relieved that she's being given an easy option to just stop doing this, but being upset at herself for being relieved. The only problem for them really is that Ruby is sticking with Illya so they will be a bit shorthanded for the last card. Makes you wonder though about Miyu's past. Completely willing to stick this out and continue fighting. Literally shows up in front of Luvia with next to nothing. Asks for clothes, food, and a home. Just a lot of mystery around that girl. Not a huge burden for Luvia to take on Miyu's living expenses, but does make you wonder. Looking forward more to next week really.

Lots of anime original material in this ep. I liked the scene with Sella and Leysritt. I have to wonder why they're keeping Leysritt around since she doesn't even perform her maid duties anymore. She spends the whole day at home lazing around, eating, and looking hot.
Next episode should be good. Can't wait for Mama Iri and *spoiler*

On the episode itself I'm disappointed its not a 1:1 adaptation. I guess I'm currently spoiled by this season with SnK. In the original manga the reason for their distance is not Miyu protecting Illya but Illya being afraid. Of course she is scared by the Servant but what she more scared is that deep down she not a normal as she thought she was as she has power herself. Sella even discusses it with Leysritt that the seal loosened and that can only happen if Illya was in mortal danger. Oh the fat joke shouldn't have its own episode. Next ep Mama Iris appears. From what I see here, it proves that Miyu really -wasn't- being mean to Illya for being mean. Looks like she simply doesn't want Illya to fight anymore, I dunno what's wrong with that. She admits herself that she doesn't have the proper motivation to fight in the first place.
Something will obviously happen that gives her that reason later. |

This episode had a very melancholic feeling to it, but that's to be expected given how last week's episode ended.
The classroom antics were largely lost on me as it referenced a lot of things that I don't really get. It was good to see Shirou again. I liked the discussion between Illya and Rin. Rin handled that very well, to her credit. A decent calm between storms episode, but certainly not one of my favorite episodes so far. The preview looks promising - Nice to see Illya's mom drop by, and the last Class Card certainly looks impressive!

I'm aware of that crossover. I'd love to see it animated, though I wonder if copyright or trademark might get in the way of it. Or if Nanoha will spend the whole time with a black box around her eyes, 90s style form of censoring characters belonging to other properties, lol.

The episode itself ran in a low-strung note, but I do not mean in anyway that it was boring.
This change of mood in the latter half has startled me in contrast to the lighthearted atmosphere shown at the beginning of the story. However, Illya and Miyu are right now at the bottom of a slump their relationship and both will have the need for each other to mend their bonds in order to pull out. In fact, even if Miyu meant not wanting to have anything to do with Illya and felt sort of satisfied that Illya renounced to collect the Class Cards, Miyu from within was aching no matter how much cold or assertive posture she puts on in public. Now, things other that made me feel happy: 1. Shirou returned again to the story, although he returns on screen to have a chance to prepare dinner. 2. I do not know which was funnier and hilarious: Tatsuko's jumbled-all together story, or Sella's crisis regarding her breast size, and not mentioning she ended with puberty a very long, long, long time ago and still is flat. 3. Preview for the ninth episode: Irisviel returns to the Fateverse!! Only, we just need Kiritsugu's return as well, and all together will come back again to be a reunited, happy family. |
