Red herring. It's not one or the other.
Really?
Then prove that gun control works.

This seems to be a stand off.

One won't listen. One won't give up. Two won't back down from their beliefs.

Oh no, the trolls have crawled out of their hole-of-a-lavatory for more attention.
I hate the Westboro church so much. Terrible bunch of people, especially the leaders of the church. They are not real Christians, that is for sure. Stupid jerks and lunatics, they are.

Standing up for the truth is worth fighting for IMHO, and history has already proven gun control doesn't work as a deterent to violent crime.
If it did then these incidents like the one in AZ, what's happening now in Mexico, the rising violent crime in China, and the rise of knife-crime in other countries wouldn't be an issue.

I've seen many of the arguments in favor of gun control, and have even supported a few of them (I used to support the Brady Bill/Background checks).
But facts are undeniable, and no one can change the reality that these laws haven't done what they were designed to do.
Instead all they have done is hurt law abiding citizens and made them unarmed targets of wackos and criminals.

Westboro is a despicable group of people.
They make me sick.

I would like to see these Westboro people get a taste of their own hate in the form of protest.

If there are some who aren't aware, the Westboro Baptist Church isn't really a church. It's made up of a guy and his family(about 18 people total), and their business is really lawsuits. They deliberately toe the line to get people to respond to them, in order to attack them. Then they can sue for libel, assault, etc. and make money.

So as some have said, they are the ultimate trolls.

They will attend gay pride rallies carrying signs that says "God Hates Gays" and they will loudly proclaim "God Hates Gays!" and then they will look at you. It's very calculated to not cross the line, as they aren't technically directing any hate at you. They are simply stating what God supposedly says, and you can't take God into court. But they are hoping the effect makes you mad enough to respond in a way that they can sue you for.

As always, the best response to a troll is to ignore them. Unless you are prepared to kill each and everyone of them and slam a "God Hates Posers" sign into their dead corpses.

What beliefs? When I was talking to Frenchie, I took the anti-gun control side. I don't feel much certainty one way or the other with regards to gun control. I just don't like GundamFan0083's arguments.

I am gonna have to ask people to take the gun control discussion to the corresponding thread here:

Several posts will be moved there later today.

Those of us who grew up "with him" in Texas and know what a crook he is figure its long long overdue. Total asshat and finally a bit of justice on this weasel.

I agree.
From all I know of Delay, he should be happy that he's getting off with just that.
IMHO he most certainly deserves a harsher sentence, but maybe I'm just being vindictive.

California Budget Revamp, WOAH NELLY!

Dude.....

Has anyone seen what DEMOCRAT Jerry Brown is calling for in State Budget cuts?

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...6RON.DTL&tsp=1

It's brutal, yet kinda sorta.....makes sense. Couple that with Tax extentions, and he's sure to piss off EVERYBODY (good job). This guy was called MOONBEAM? If not for the taxes (which frankly is the only real way to ensure funding IMHO) He sounds downright TEXAN.

It really doesn't matter what badge the incoming governor is wearing... its the same train crashing into the station because no one was willing to compromise when it was less painful (unions, corporations, guilds, wealthy, poor... everyone). Problem is, some of those factions can scamper out of the state to avoid fixing the problem... the rest are stuck.

Oh my god I don't even

That guy is a fucking moron. Cut the shit out of the colleges, but ignore K-12?

Do we really need more hamburger-flippers and walmart employees?

It's already hard enough to get a college degree these days, stop making it fucking harder. I'm already going to have to split my classes between two different campuses (in two different cities) because of the fucking budget cuts.

My college doesn't even teach C++ anymore because of this lunacy!

And K-12 is fucking useless. It's babysitting service. It doesn't teach your kids shit, nor does it get them a good job. Hell, people with master's degrees are having a hard time finding work right now, much less folks with nothing beyond a high school diploma!

I've been thinking about the AZ shootings, and the one thing I can't help but think that Loughner is basically a real-life Travis Bickle.

Well I guess it makes little sense to leave K-12 off the table,

Otherwise the points you made are interesting but almost veer off on another debate entirely.

A caller on Southern California Public Radio said that the government itself needs to slash benefits to state workers. Another said that they need to cut loopholes for corporate fatcats.

I think Brown will have to cut deeper into higher level state service benefits before this gets passed, it sounds scary and kind of plausible but I bet many people will just vote it down anyways.

This is gonna be real center stage for the next 5 years.

Well, they say that those people (the rich) are hauling ass to Texas who seems to kinda sneer at places like the Golden State and it's budgetary woes.

Still, I think Texas has hidden problems in Health and Education that they will have to deal with some time in the future.

Texas has a budget problem almost as big as CA's.

The GOP/teabaggers aren't fooling anyone anymore.

More cuts to the the colleges. Damn I still have at least two more years to go. Luckily, I'm not in a UC. I guess I better start praying to my friends in UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, etc.

Brown should be more specific in what areas to cut in the college level.

Basically, Texas has been screwing the books.... they're about to have a major meltdown after years of pretense. Never mind that even with the book cooking they have just about the worst numbers on healthcare, education, or anything you might consider vital infrastructure in the nation. Its only an advantaged destination if you live in a 'gated community' fantasy and that fantasy isn't going to be good for much real soon.
