Mashiro is pretty much the only one who changed. She was the developing anti-hero of Otome.

Arika retained the "attributes of a hero" throughout the story, Nina didn't budge if only an inch, and Mashiro developed from having "negative" traits such as selfishness and immaturity to becoming more fluent in her ability to rule and do politics.

I agree. Arika remained the shortsighted fool from beginning to end. Mashiro actually became a half-decent ruler.

Mashiro because she actually started to finally understand the true meaning of being a queen.

Mashiro all the way...she was a very stubborn, lazy queen and during the end from her ordeals she experienced, she grew into quite the citizen-caring queen.

Mashiro, definitely. I liked her from beginning to end and her growth was veryy well done. Sergay probably comes close behind, but with him it wasn't so much growth as character exploration (shame about the amnesia).

Looks like Mashiro and Arika are OWNING the poll (LOL). I can see why though. Both characters, Mashiro in particular, spent the whole seires changing into a better person, not for themselves alone, but for everyone around them.

Well first of, I would have to say Mashiro.
We learned the most from her difficulties becoming queen.
People say that she's a false Queen, picked up to fill a slot.
Also, she lost her nanny (close to that) when some of her subjects threw her of a cliff.

Second Arika, I mean she's the main character and
I believe we will actually see more about her than Mashiro in the end.
She's usually cheerful, unless it's schoolwork that too hard for her.
Or, she doubts the meaning behind Otomes after they get used for wars.

Third, I would have to say Nina. True she did side with Nagi and she often seems cold.
However, it's not necessary to show huge emotions in order to develop a character.
It just makes it easier for us, the viewers to understand what's going on.

Absolutely Mashiro. Because of Aoi and Midori as the role model, she can change 180 degree to a great queen.
Oh, and the BGM when Aoi fell from cliff is perfect!!!! It synchronized 9999% with the moment.

About Arika... I think she didn't developed too well. She only start from genki-depressed-than genki again. Nothing changed her personality (eg : more mature).

Nina. Her character is very interesting, and even though it's unacceptable, but her father complex made her more human, realistic, and imperfect. But until the end, I didn't see her personality that REALLY changed.. *sigh* *screw you, Sunrise's scriptwriters!!*

And Tomoe.... From Local-Garderobe-Evil-Plotter to a Big-Boss-of-Valkyrie-Unit-that-even-MIYU-Must-Annihilated-Her-with-Her-Own-Hand.

Another reason I didn't include Sergey was that he made his own decisions way into the late episodes and had the hardest time not obeying Nagi's orders. He just sat on his ass for most of the series, not doing anything to prevent Nagi from ruling the world, but instead... spent time subconciously seducing underaged girls.

Nina would be my 3rd choice because she hated Arika in the beginning, but grew a soft spot for her later, no matter how much her daddy complex got in the way.

Yukino gets quite a bit of screen time in the end, and actually fights with everyone as a whole, including Shizuru.

Looking at the result, it saddenned me as it proves that despite so many character, only a few did have any development at all throughout the series ..

I vote for Mashiro, she changed drastically from that spoiled princess to a devoted one, thanks to Mimi ...
As for Arika, she changes in some ways, she falls in love, she becomes depressed, but her main goal (becoming an otome (lol)) remains from the beginning.

Well you are partially right...
I think the reason why Mashiro owns the poll is that she is such a secondary character... that having 3 or so episodes practically dedicated to her… was unthinkable...

Also she's one of the few characters that never really got developed in HiME... so it's not that the other characters didn't get developed... it's that nobody notices... since everybody that voted probably watched HiME... with all the chatting about Hime this Hime that... it's almost impossible not to watch it...
