I've so been out of the loop on FMP news for a long while now, so what's been happening with that new FMP production that was announced way back?

Part 1

1. Tatsuya is a real prevert, especially towards older ones. His THIRD love (......) was his ex-English tutor, and just because she said "I'll date with you if you got a score of 900 in TOEFL" he worked so hard and, you know, he reached that. The book begins with him daydreaming about her......and wakes up at critical moments. Afterwards he spoke with Kotaro, now married and got a child (nothing about if that's Kyoko though), above life.
Other characters: his sister Yukari, so good at cooking and behaves like their deceased mother-----actually STOPS Tatsuya arguing with his father that night after switching on her rage mode; and Adelina, now being a PMC pilot to act as training personnel for JSDF, arrived in Japan.


2. After Tatsuya got his Power Slave license he worked in the site where his father's construction company's working on, and he met Adelina when her convoy passed through the site.

Later on Adelina, piloting a Zy-99M (Mass-produced Shadow), is fighting against 3 Type-96 Custom from JSDF during a training session. But the JSDF unit 3, which was supposed to be "destroyed", suddenly went berserk and starting to use real ammo. After wrecking havoc at the construction site, that Type-96 rushed towards the Hot Spring Hostel where Yukari is. Adelina was injured in the progress, so Tatsuya gets in the cockpit trying to stop the rouge AS' rampage.



3. After the incident, D.O.M.S. (that PMC Adelina belongs) invited Tatsuya to join, and initially he declines, but after seeing the supervisor (ie Mao) he IMMEDIATELY accepts, in an thought of starting his FOURTH love. (From HS: "....../Facepalm")

Oh, and that was Adelina, under the orders from Mao to cosplay as a tour guide. Looks like "toying with younger girls" hadn't changed for Mao's part......

Part 2

1. Tatsuya's one-month training in the camp under Adelina, in Japanese schools' sportswear all the time. (Yes, nothing changed) They DID reference Sousuke for two times:

a. *Tatsuya piloting Savage for the first time*
T: It's called as Savage, right?
A: You remember that? Looks like my training manages to do something.
T: Nah, this thing always act as weak grunts in Hollywood movies, so I can recall that.
A: ......
T: Just like that movie shown in Japan last month. Is that guy called Stephen Seagul? Using only his hands------
(From HS and translator: Possibly refencing Sousuke's feast as shown in Engage Six Seven. Now, when did Sousuke went to Hollywood? Or his story was adapted as movie? Heh.)

b. *At the end of a training session*
A: (After saying she's not that good as a trainer) I heard from the supervisor that one of her past comrades manages to turn a bunch of sheep-like newbies into hungry wolves in a week.
T: A week? Oh, there's a rumour like that in Jindai too. Erm, is that Baseball Club or Soccer......?
A: Don't mix up military training with high school activities!
(From HS: It's just too obvious.)

2. Mao's daughter, Clara, also shows up and calls Tatsuya "newbie" all the time, along with showing off her marksmanship.

3. When the training nearly ends, Mao returns to US from Japan while bringing Yukari along. During a lunch session (or dinner) Carlos (member of 3rd AS training platoon, along with Baxter and Clara) teases Tatsuya as garbage, pushing his berzerk button to make a gambit with Carlos: If he loses Yukari will stay along with him. (Wait, WHAT?) Mao agrees, and Baxter takes the fight as a test for Tatsuya's training received this month.



Part 3

1. That night, Clara visits Tatsuya and Yukari------and was promptly assault by the later, who will not let go of anything cute. And since Tatsuya had a terrible aim, Clara suggests him to use Boxer Shotcannon instead.
The fight next day? Tatsuya wins by plot armour......no, really. He really got something when piloting AS, grabbing a training Anti-tank Dagger by bare hands and throwing it back, ending the fight with Boxer. But he fainted after the fight------and he saw Adelina (in nurse outfit) saying his test is passed.

2. Mao and others also came and congraulate him, giving him the callsign Oshira(オシラ)4, and he'll enlist in the same platoon where Adelina is. Everything is well......until Clara calls Mao "mum" and Tatsuya froze in place, since it means his so-called fourth love sank. (Can I just say he deserves it?)
Obviously discussions will turn to Clara's dad, aka 3 marrages and 3 divorces. Mao calls Kurz as "a definately useless and jobless husband", but then members of DOMS gamb about "when will Kurz comes back", ranging from six months to 2 year.

3. In Japan, a parliament member visits a secret hangar of JGSDF (where the homemade 3rdGen AS "AS-1" is), and discussed about the previous AS rampage. Its pilot is still in coma, but through investigation it's found that he took a lot of drugs beforehand, and its live ammo were also smuggled from Egypt. Because of the incident, there're too much opinion opposing the development of new AS, so this AS-1 will be handed over to DOMS for test runs.

Nice job Clara.

Book ends. Looks promising from the thickened plot, but I don't like Tatsuya's personality. AT ALL.

So they're making a new anime or something? With this future timeline thing? Hate to say it but it looks kinda goofy, even in comparison to the existing material. The thing I always liked about FMP was how they kept it serious yet funny at the same time (and oftentimes not at the same time) without things being stupid, but it seems like that shall change...

Well since the main plot for the novels ended they are starting up a new story.

However I would imaging they would continue on with the remainder of the original plotline and characters if they get around to making more anime of FMP.

I can understand why people might dislike Tatsuya, but to me he is perfectly non-pathetic, hard-working short-tempered PERVERT. So, he's practically me =) And he has a thing for Mao, also just like me^^ Thank you, Gatoh, thank you, Oguro, you made another great protagonist!

And, of course, we, big Russian men, love Adelina! She's waaaaaay cuter in the pics from the book.

I will only continue to read this to hear refferences about Sousuke, Kaname, Mao and Kurtz, and AL (arbalest)...

And I agree, this doesnt have any of those dark-ominous unknown mystery that FMP originally had, it's impossible. Since we all know where AS's and black technologyu came from.


Meh...it looks like a regular shonen almost...where is SOUSUKE!

PS: Is that an Alastor mouring/kneeling at a grave?..?! creepy?!?
PSS: I LOVE the refferences about Sousuke at any given moment! XD Can't get enough of it!

I'm a bit sad. I was expecting a lot of Kaname & Sousuke in this new novel. I can say I'm disappointed. But I have a feeling that they'll show up and play a big part later on.

I'm really hoping the deceased mother is not Kaname.

Yukari can not be Kaname's daughter, its only been 10 years since then. Which means neither Tatsuya (17 years old) nor Yukari can be their children. It's official, they are NOT Sousuke or Chidori's children... :S

Yes, Another is set 11 years after SBM so it's impossible to happen.

I can care less about tha lack of Sousuke/Chidori's appearances, they'll appear at some point if needed anyway (since it's not alternate universe). However if the second book is just like this (some fans said this book's atmosphere is a bit like BMG) then I'll be very disappointed.

When you think "1x" you think closer to 10 years rather than closer to 20 years. Since high school age is 15-18, "1x" shouldn't be long enough for their kids to be the main character and his sister.

Also Clara should be an indicator for the relative amount of time that has passed.

The real question for us non-cultured americans is: is there a possibility of a translation? I know Tokyopop went under- so that's a bust. is there any real hope for another company to take over?

I get the feeling that Sosuke and Kaname will be seen in the following books. Maybe Tatsuya will even fall for Kaname as she is now older than him.
