I'm looking forward to Capaldi, because he likewise represents a change in direction and happens to be a fantastic actor.
While my puny reptilian brain has no problem with young good looking actresses () I have to agree with you: the best seasons for the new season have clearly been the ones that avoided the stereotypical cute girl in favour of more unorthodox choices like Catherine Tate. I have a feeling that Capaldi will bring us a more toned down Doctor like we had in the first season or at least that's what I hope. You can't keep moving faster and faster nonstop without running the risk of burning out your audience.

Thing is, the young actors play his old while the old actors play him young. I wonder if Capaldi will play against type (or more like he did when he was younger).

Hartnell certainly didn't play him young. I don't feel that Pertwee did either.

Moffat has been quote that 12th Doctor will be "fiercer", so Im thinking Capadli will play him younger.

I think Hartnell was the fiercest of the bunch - he was a hard-edged old SOB. I don't think the one necessarily has anything to do with the other.

You might want to watch "The Night of the Doctor" ASAP because you're probably going to get spoiled sooner rather than later if you don't...

It was fun enough to see Paul McGann again, but to see a honest to god prologue of the upcoming story was quite a treat (a good one at that).

The words "holy crap" comes to mind. He is no longer the one shot Doctor, and a clear reference to Big Finish Audio plays (past companions of the Eighth Doctor).

What comes next...will be brutal.

EDIT:

And now from the BBC....The Night of the Doctor:

McGann is one of the great what-might-have-been's in Doctor Who history. He looked even more perfect for the role here.

When I saw the tiny image on youtube of the woman, my first thought was Romana. But then remembered that Lalla Ward has short hair now.

An Adventure in Space and Time, the dramatisation of the creation of Doctor Who was really a rather splendid and wonderful programme.
David Bradley was totally convincing as William Hartnell.
Totally recommended. Be prepared for tears....

It has been reported that Tom Baker will be in the 50th Anniversary episode. In what capacity is unclear, though it could be as simple as a flahback, or body double with voice over of the 4th Doctor giving Osgood his scarf. He did have multiple versions of it and later switched to that red and purple scarf he had for his last season.

My pet theory is that the "empty paintings" incident hinted at so far, is how the Doctors will appear. That maybe each painting contained a Doctor, and that for some reason they came alive for this one episode. You then get the end credits of the episode showing all the paintings each with a Doctor making himself looking cool.

Finally got the chance to watch Nightmare in Silver, The Name of the Doctor and The Night of the Doctor.

So the Cybermen can now adapt and overcome their weaknesses. I wonder how they now fare with the Daleks? Praises to Warwick Davis and his acting.

Nice twist over the Doctor's name. Instead of the Doctor's real name, it was actually his title that one of his regenerations abandon to do something horrible, John Hurt's Doctor aka the War Doctor. Also we find out why Clara is the Impossible Girl.

And i was surprise to see the 8th Doctor. Too bad his time was short as his role was how he became the War Doctor.

Also, this.

Happy Fiftieth Anniversary to Doctor Who, first screened 23 November 1963, and still going strong.

Happy anniversary to ya, Doctor Who.

Anyone else go through Google's flash game celebrating the event?

Damn you, and damn Google - that's 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back. But I beat the damn thing!

I confess I teared up at the end, when Matt Smith showed up - and for most of the epilogue. It was a bit of a shock seeing the late Walder Frey as The Doctor, but Bradley was really fantastic.
