I agree with cosmic, it's not the first that kamachi did this and it won't be the last.
Because Kakine has an endless supply of Dark Matter he can create, Had Accelerator penetrated his defenses he would have created something much tougher to compensate, which is completely within possibility due to his ability to create and manipulate Dark Matter on the subatomic scale and with grant it seemingly any property he desires. Remember that in the light novel he wasn't hit with a tornado like in the anime, but a solid and heavy projectile. What makes it even more amazing is that Kakine tanked it without wings, with his natural Dark Matter AIM. Kakine's power was clearly evolving in his fight with Accelerator and it shows, he hadn't even completely mastered it before fighting Accelerator, if he didn't whitelist Dark Matter Kakine would have eventually landed a fatal hit

Oh by the way, Dark Matter volume 1 is releasing on March 26. Can you believe it? He skipped from chapters and straight to volume releases, definitely an aberrant release schedule. Cannot wait for the continuation of Kakine's story!

^I dunno. It's a bit of a reach to bring in Kimi and Saryou. At no point in their flashback was it implied that they were Dark May participants.

I thought at least Saryou was mentioned to have participated in that experiment.

Can anyone tell me if their is a definitive end to the volume. Is this a single volume story?

This spinoff is suprisingly good so far, the pacing is fast, the mystery around the girl gets developed and i dont feel like i will need 4 years to see the end of this arc.

Its strange to say it, but i might actually be enjoying a toaru-related product after a long time again. AB aint bad but its nothing really captivating either.

You're right, I was the one who forgot. It's briefly mentioned by Oumi Shuri right after Saryou is defeated by Kuroko.

I didn't see it mentioned in the flashback so I guess I didn't commit it to memory. Or maybe that's just how little I care about the current Railgun villains.

Astral Buddy is amazing. You're so wrong. But I agree that this Dark Matter manga is awesome. My real question ... is this also a novel... or just a manga?

I'll second that. On one hand, Beetle-05 is only a subset of Kakine's full personality and we haven't really seen him do much of else. On the other hand, manga Kakine clearly has the personality of both Beetle-05 and the evil Kakine in a balanced amount. That makes him arguably more interesting.

I do hope there's a form of true salvation for all parts of his personality sometime in the LNs.

The real question: is this the end of the manga for good? They were clearly teasing a tragic Kakine backstory. That's the story I want to hear the most.

I'll third this. Beetle hasn't gotten much to do past his initial appearance, but he still hasn't really stood out much compared to manga Kakine who already comes off as much more interesting.
