Yeah...unless we get some more actual explanation into what's up, I really can't empathize with Yuzuki at all. Her and Shione are just coming off as total jerks. Characters that act like how Yuzuki is acting now just annoy me.

"I hate you! You could never understand! Because of you, things are so bad!"

"But I don't remember! Could you explain what is wrong and how it's my fault so I CAN understand?"

"No! I'm not going to tell you anything! You'll just have to deal with me hating you without ever knowing why!"

Episode 4 was atrociously slow to the point it felt like nothing noteworthy happened, -at all-. They are trying way too hard with the "estranged chilhood friends" plot line, and it is just tiring.

I'm giving this series one last episode to convince me regarding the heavy handed drama. The narrative is shoehorning the latter in a very obnoxious way with little to no plot perspective past that, and Noel's relevancy is still in thin air.

Ok, after this episode I have never wanted to punch a girl so hard ever before. If it ends up that she is like that just because she can't see some fireworks I don't know what I'll do but I feel sorry for whoever is close by.

Seriously I hope they find out about Nonokas mom and feel like utter crap afterwards because their problems so far are nothing compared to losing your f*****g mother.

We have an anti-social girl, a persecution complex girl and a feels responsible for no reason girl. So far Nonoka, Noel and the boy are the only ones not pissing me off.

Now excuse me while I go punch a wall or cat, I don't know I can't think straight after this f*****g episode.

Ah, delicious drama. I love this show.

Koharu admitting that she didn't think much of Yuzuki's protest was a nice moment, I thought. I don't know if she'll mellow out during the course of the show or not, but for now I do really enjoy how Yuzuki stirs things up so much. Unstable characters are the best.

I have mixed feelings about this show. I can see where both the show's biggest fans and also its critics are coming from.

The drama is well-executed in a vacuum. What I mean by that is that it hits all the right notes, its paced well, the seiyu performances are excellent, and the blend of characters is pretty good. Nonoka is a lovely person that's easy to root for. Noel's utterly naive perfect sweetness provides a touch of magic and humor and whimsy which gives the show good tonal balance overall.

That being said, the source of all of this drama is... well...

It's probably not a good thing that Yuzuki's huge one-person protest there made me think of the famous Tiananmen Square protest. That's kind of over-the-top for what I think this show is aiming for.

Anybody here good at meme-making? I have a specific one in mind that viewers of this show might get a good chuckle out of.

T-Tiananmen Square protest!? lol That comparison may be exaggerated there. All I see is a dumb girl doing dumb things unable to be honest with herself regarding certain aspects. I believe Nonoka will save the day next episode though! And maybe Noel will strike a heroic victory pose for us, too. Lolis and justice will always prevail.

Brightside is at most Nonoka apologized in front of everyone sincerely for forgetting the past and their promise.
And Shione at least took that as a sincere apology, though she does not forgive her.
To me, that is a good start to reconnect.
This is the part Nonoka must bear with it.

Ep.5

One good thing about the drama is that when the characters manage to overcome it, they (and audiences) will experience the greatest happiness.

Yuzuki's reasons sounds a bit silly but I can understand her. I really like the final scene with firework reflecting inside the saucer. Also, look like Noel seems to be the only person that can break Shione ice barrier at this moment. lol~

Now that Yuzuki's drama has ended, we are one step closer to see the happy side of this show. Now, Nonoka, go to fix Shione's misunderstanding and become friend with her again. After that, we can move to the main plot.

I'm relieved I managed to avoid facepalming when the source of Yuzuki's hatred of the saucer was revealed. Certainly it managed to be more compelling than missing fireworks. And yet....it's still not very compelling to me. She's been going on this one-girl war against a flying saucer because her brother got hurt looking for her. It's not like he died looking for her.

In the end glad the Yuzuki drama can be put to bed.

On the positive side, at least the end of the episode was strong. At least they got Yuzuki back on board. Props to Noel for some creative fireworks that allowed the ending to be nice and solid .

Finally, that drama ended for Yuzuki. I couldn't almost stand more from her and those silly excuses. Noel's cuteness brightened the gloom and doom though of the episode and I'm pretty happy for that.

Ep 05

Man, that sceme at the end with Noel making the firework imagery flash across her underbelly like that and how it flowed into the ED was absolutely lovely. Speaking of EDs, I am happy to report that not only has the ED of the series finally "clicked" with me, but the full versions of both the OP and ED are available, and they are quite nice. In some ways I liked the full version of the ED even more.

Story wise, I found I was relieved, disappointed and curious to see Yuzuki's difficulties resolved like they were and in the manner they were. I was relieved and disappointed for similar reasons - mainly because it was simple (maybe too simple for some) and uncomplicated, yet easy to understand and relate to...at least for me. I was curious because of the speed of its resolution (and Shione seems next in the gate), for by next ep at the half way mark it seems the tension, friction and drama amongst the friends will be resolved...or at least the ice will be broken. But that means the other half of the series will be dedicated to...what? Noel fulfilling Nonoka's promise? A lot in that regard is not really clear, but I have a feeling details of the latter two may come more into focus. Frankly I am quite curious to learn more about Noel.

Anyhoo, good ep all around for me.

Yuzuki apologized to the wrong person there...

I've been trying to figure out why this show falls so short of Hisaya's earlier anime works, and aside from the fact that it launched into the drama before establishing the characters (never a good idea) I think the issue is one of consequence. In Sola and Kanon, the drama worked as drama because there was a real sense of consequence - lives were at-stake. Here, it's much ado about nothing - and Yuzuki's resolution certainly did nothing to change that impression.

So all that drama really was because of some shitty fireworks... excuse me while I go punch something since I can't go into the anime and punch the stupid girl.
