I don't know her age, but she's definitely a kid. I remember reading someone on Twitter the other day pre-emptively warning the community to NOT lewd her .

She's 14, I think? Or at least in early teens.

Ainu are small, but not that different compared to average Japanese's size.

It is a shame about that bear(s), because while there's no denying that was an atrocity, the rest of the ep was really good and it's a great premise.

Alas, 12 episodes. The curse of the production committee era.

I would I guess her being around that age. She is old enough for Ainu Tattoo, even if she doesn't have it. She should be 12-13 at minimum.

according to the director, that CG was intentional, here is the interview in Japanese:http://www.kamuy-anime.com/special/i...x00110000.html

12 episodes is not the normal? even the truly unique Netlifx series excluding the production committee have that number of episodes.

12 episodes is normal. It's just the reluctant acceptance of mediocrity that normally comes with it.

This varies from series to series, so far Kokkoku >>>>> Golden Kamuy.

Bad CGI bears aside, that was a pretty good first episode. The MC seem pretty cool and has a good heart (he's doing all this for the sake of his best friend's wife and baby). The female lead is really skilled and strong willed. I think the fact she refuses to kill will eventually become a problem though.

One thing I'm a bit confused about: Sugimoto's friend told him it costs 200 yen to go to America. Did I misunderstand or was the yen really that strong back then?

Hence why I used the qualifier "normally".

Kokkoku is a bit of an odd case in that it's not been translated enough for anyone here to bitch about what was (probably) an original ending (according to MAL there's 67 chapters and Episode 4 of the anime ends on Chapter 12). And I didn't think much of the anime's ending so I probably would've bitched about it. XP

If inflation is anything to go by, 200 yen was probably a fortune at that time.

Gold Standard and Yen was pegged to Pound, yeah 200 Yen is a real fortune.

Unfinished story.

Unfinished stories are the worst. It's almost impossible for an anime to be considered a cult classic if its story isn't even finished. And even if a second season does follow (as it will in this case), the momentum will have been killed off by then. Mob Psycho can maybe escape this because it's more of a comedy and doesn't rely on a long running plot, but for Golden Kamuy it may very well be a death sentence. I can't even fucking remember the name of that anime with the superpowered deaf guy and the eye patch guy surviving in a gangland.

[edit]

It was called Gangsta.

I don't know if she'd be unwilling to kill in any and all situations, but certainly unwilling to attack and kill potentially innocent men (well, at least, former prisoners who have paid their debt) just to go after a treasure.

Also do they not have pencil and paper in this story? Is taking decals of those tattoos so hard ?

In which case, forget what I said.

Kokkoku worked because they could fit the story into just one cour. I doubt the same is the case with Golden Kamuy.

12 episodes being acknowledged as "normal" is the insidious creep of mediocrity acceptance in the production committee era. It didn't used to be normal.

Two-cour (or longer) series were a hell of a lot more common back in the day, yes. There were always one cour series but they were a much lower percentage of the total before production committees (read: seiyuu agencies, idol mafia, distributors, LN publishers, music publishers) took control over the majority of production decisions.

Aside from the CGI bear becoming a meme, I like this show so far.

Then again, I'm a sucker for anime in historical settings.
