Is it possible that the reason the Federation has closed the tech gap so much isn't because of their resources, but rather because Veda is guiding them and leaking out information on classified Celestial being tech?

Given that most of the technology used by the current ESF were already present on the GN-X, and that many of the technologies actually have a pre-Gundam tech base for them (the HRL, Union and AEU had rudimentary beam weapons tech even before the Gundams appeared for example), I'd say it's more the Federation's resources rather than VEDA. It's been shown that the Earth is very quick at adapting technologies (see the Advanced GN-X).

If it isn't their tech, then why are the Gundams such a threat then? The latest episode showed that if A-Laws got serious, then they could completely overwhelm and destroy Celestial Being (if not for Trans-Am saving CB).

How the heck is he going to install such a large GN drive into the sword?

I think the sword is probby going to be a Nodachi (2 handed heavysword, fatter than the Daikatana) since he is so weeaboo"Japanese" now. It is going to meet its western counterpart as a GN Buster Sword.

I don't know if it showed them with the beam weapons, but the technology was there. The reason why they didn't use the beam weaponry was because it was unfeasible to waste energy with it, since most mobile suits at the time had limited power sources, up until the ENACT. And then along came the Gundams and their GN-Drives, who didn't have to worry about such limitations... yeah.

well dunno about the mangas but in the anime i didn't see anything related whit that info so is more of speculations then anything else or if any one has seen that info some were tell me plz.

Well, the Overflag did have an anti beam coating so some type of beam weapon must have existed only not for the MS.

The only hint of pre-Celestial Being beam weapons on the anime was the quick application of Anti-Beam Coating on the Custom Flag.

However, the HG Flag manual and the Shell Flag profile from 00V goes into more detail into beam weapon technology. The former states that the plasma blade is a byproduct of beam saber research, and the latter pretty much confirms that the three countries were into beam weapon technology (there were even rumors that some Flags were already armed with beam weapons). Then you have the HG Ali's Enact, which explains that particular design's enlarged headcrest as a larger solar energy reciever to prepare for the inclusion of beam weaponry.
