The real plot really only kicks in in the Third and Fourth Arcs. The first two are very much character introductions- at least, that's what I'd see them as. But it's definitely not Rom-Com, after the first two Arcs. Spoiler for Manga Spoilers:

So the general theme I'm getting from the comments here is "it gets better; a lot better."
I found these two first episodes to be painfully average, offering little to someone who's been around the block. But I'll stick with it and give this one a shot to improve in the long haul. I trust the collective wisdom of this forum. And hey, it's not horrible at the moment either, just a bit stock.

i can recommend reading the manga since their is a slim chance that Gainax will adopt this faithfully according to the manga P.S. and darn their are too much characters btw on Medaka Box so this needs a lot of budget on voice actors/actresses too lol Gainax may go bankrupt if they animate the manga entirely |

I've removed a bunch of posts that hinted too strongly about future events from the manga. I know that it starts slow, but let's keep those future event hints to a minimum so those who haven't read the manga won't be spoiled.
Thank you. |

Most probably this will be a 20+ episode season Kuroko no Basket has already been confirmed to be 26, this was announced at exact same and they got this dual promotion thing going on in Shounen jump. It'd seem it a bit weird if this got significantly more or less episodes.
45+ seems highly unlikely for a late night anime, I'm not even sure why that idea was entertained. |

As I said when the first episode premiered, very few late-night shows with more than 2-cours (excluding split-cour shows) are popular in the nineties, but dissapear afterwards. GTO and Death Note are the one I can think of.

It's possible for a popular enough shounen anime, just rare and the fact this is done by Gainax and perhaps it's release time period would count against it. |
