well this was interesting, kuwata was being really nervous in the trial and how he react at the end look like he really lost it, also the whole trial really felt that this was adapted from a game (which I haven't play), it was basically a game for me and the music in the execution is really awesome.

I got home and finished the 3rd episode after having to take an addition two hours at work due to people ditching and neglecting their responsibilities on to me. Enough of me and my work problems let's get to the episode at hand.

Ahem:

I don't know what to feel about this episode because the trial and the rules regarding it were interesting, but my disappointment was the pacing of the trial. It felt to fast and didn't really give much insight on the debating process. I know we're not suppose to expect much due to this series low episode count, but I think the trial's pacing could've been a bit slower just to give the subtext of the trial sequence a bit more dynamic.

As for the killer, too obvious, but the one thing that truly sealed the deal was the toolkit. Once that was out in the opening that to me was the deciding factor, besides the death message.

The execution sequence was interesting to take note of, as it seemed that the sentence and how it's carried out is similar to the SHSL talent that each of the remaining survivors possess. The baseball related death is a good example to did, sort of reminds me a bit of the deaths from Saw and the Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman murder mystery "Se7en" (If anyone hasn't seen that I recommend it. Totally good movie).

Overall it was a good episode, but the pacing of the trial was a bit to fast and too subtle to be considered a court case. Why I say that? It's simple: The evidence was their and everything, but no fluent debates weren't going on and to me that felt lacking especially since this was a court case.

Now that 12 remain and three are dead, I wonder where this will go. Poor Makoto having to learn the truth regarding Sayaka's death and how the events of what happened came into fruition. It was nice for Kyoko to "comfort" him as he's willing to live with the awful memory in order to move forward. It's a minor step in his development, but I wonder how this will affect him as the show progresses. Using Sayaka's esper joke at the end was a nice touch, but I could definitely feel the feels from it, so to speak.

about the toolkit... did they show/say in anime that all the boys except Leon didn't use their toolkit at all?

in game Monodo said that no one of them use it >>>>
that why if Leon use his = murder, because everyone else have it sealed

They did say that and Makoto was the one to bring up the toolkit usage to seal Leon's fate. Sure it wasn't present, but it was evident that the said kit was used in the murder remember.

Makoto's toolkit was still unopened. Either the other male's tool kits were open we don't know, but Leon was the most likely case due to the evidence used against him and the justifications to support those claims.

I'm a little disappointed with this outcome. The "LEON" message was such an absolute dead giveaway that I figured it might've been planted by the murderer to frame him, lol. Likewise, though, the crystal ball seemed way too obvious to actually point to the psychic dude as the real murderer, so I highly doubted it was him. The sleeve could've belonged to several of the guys, who all wear white shirts, including psychic dude and baseball dude. The thing about having to throw the crystal ball to hit the switch to open the gate pointed more obviously to the baseball dude, but since the otaku dude was shown with the key to open the gate, it could also have all been a part of his plan to frame one of the other two guys. I guess I thought about it too hard and gave it too much credit, though. Oh well.

Also, does anybody else really not like the lead character? He's my least favorite, followed closely by Kirigiri. I don't trust her, especially with her "Super Duper High School ???" title. What is she, some kind of detective or something? I half expect it to be revealed that she's been a part of this whole setup once before. She's way too calm and collected about everything, and she seems far cleverer than any of the rest of the bunch. But besides not completely trusting her, I just hate her personality. She's so ~serious and cool.~ I hate characters like that.

Lastly, I haven't played the game, but if the execution scenes are being censored for the anime, I'm personally rather thankful for that, lol. This execution scene was plenty disturbing despite any censoring, in my opinion, so I thank them for sparing me from any worse. However, what I really wish is that they hadn't just lifted the execution scene directly from the game, you know? It looked really out of place and awkward.

EDIT: Okay, I forgot about the nutso braids girl. She might be my actual least favorite so far. Those three are all close, though.

I too didn't think Leon would be the culprit and was surprised when the scene happened as it did in the anime.

Anyone have any thoughts on the sixteenth chair. Surely it was mentioned for a reason.

Probably that someone could be added to stir things up if they get too boring, that's my guess.

It's pretty hard faking this particular dying messege without causing additional damage to the corpse, as she wrote it behind her back.
I guess it depends on where you come from; someone from Japan is certainly less likely to think of it as letters than numbers.

It was more shortened than censored.
Maybe I'm too tired to see any other differrances than it being a bit shorter and no blood stain on the floor at the end.

Oh and if you think this one is disturbing wait for the others.

Keep in mind that the one shown in the anime, while may look the same as the one in game at first, had been receiving a lot of improvement. Play them side by side and the difference is actually quite clear.

Whether it's lack of creativity, or doesn't want to potentially anger the fans for changing an iconic moment in the game, or just want to keep the unique aspect of the original game, that I don't know. With so many coins lying around in the background I would like to think that it's the combination of the three.

As it'd shown in the differences of the OP in the first 2 episodes, they might want to present the first time as nearly identical as the ingame counterpart and slowly build its own character in the anime as it progresses. The UI integration can see a lot of improvements down the line. I do like how they incorporate the most tedious rhythm game into actual conversation itself. I might be too optimistic about this, but if Chunsoft said that they want to recreate the game experience as much as possible I'll take their word for that. The fact that they broke up the manga portion is most likely due to time constraint since it's basically repeating everything that builds up to it.

I don't see an issue about the Fortune Teller guy raising a stupid argument after the manga part though, since he's really an idiot. I do like how they removed the tool part in the build up for saving it as the final attack. Just kind of sad that Celes' stab at Leon at the end was removed, because that makes the whole trial for me while playing the game.

Now with chapter 1 done, I might actually put down the game for a week so I can challenge myself to see if the next ep will present enough clues for the anime-only watchers, before I actually play chapter 2 myself. It's actually quite fun to do both at the same time

Edit: ah yes, the final shot at the execution with the bloody balls was also removed in the anime....kind of sad about that actually.

Poor Leon.
Just an anime only watcher, but didn't mind the pacing much. Trial was pretty quick, but it was within acceptable parameters imo.

What happens in the game if you guess wrong? Do you just get a "GAME OVER. YOU ALL ARE DEAD" screen?

well, as anime original viewer, I think this episode is awesome....?
I enjoy the debate very well.... enjoy every interactions... everyone got their own portion to speak
although this first death is little painful...
no one can blame Leon... but rules is rules.... The only one at fault is monokuma

upupupu..... that punishment is little silly in my opinion.... well it's slow death

Celes, Kyoko, and Togami should be let alive till the end... they're our detectives here....

That was kind of a let down. The different graphic style seemed like a strange artistic experiment that didn't work. I get it now that it was taken directly from the game, but as an anime-only watcher it didn't really work out.

It was ok I guess, the staff did what they can to fit this in 13 episodes, but I think they should have animated the punishment scene instead.

queen of tsundere is Kugimiya Rie
the famous "AHO" line of Shiori from The World God Only Knows, was voiced by Kana Hanazawa though so you've probably mixed it up

I can't anything in particular about this episode. The important thing was that the crime was explained in good manner.

That was okay. The trial wasn't very exciting since it was painfully obvious who the culprit was. It's only the first case so I assume the others will be harder. Kirigiri seems to be the smartest person in that school by far and she has the "aura" so I guess she's actually supposed to be a super duper high school detective (these titles crack me up). I noticed she was the only one unfazed by Leon's death so she's probably used to these kind of things.
