Mushi to Medama [Light Novel] series

Thread for discussing the Mushi to Medama (Insect and Eyeball) light novels.

Author: Akira
Illustrator: Mitsuki Mausu

The series has completed at six volumes.

1. 蟲と眼球とテディベア (Insect, Eyeball, and Teddybear)
2. 蟲と眼球と殺菌消毒 (Insect, Eyeball, and SakkinShodoku/Sterilization Disinfection)
3. 蟲と眼球とチョコレートパフェ (Insect, Eyeball, and Chocolate Parfait)
4. 蟲と眼球と愛の歌 (Insect, Eyeball, and the Song of Love)
5. 蟲と眼球と白雪姫 (Insect, Eyeball, and Snow White)
6. 蟲と眼球とダメージヘア (Insect, Eyeball, and Damage Hair)

The series was supposed to end at five volumes, but the author decided to write a sixth later.

Spoiler for covers:

Synopsis...
A simple way is my detailed one in the manga thread-
http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=65887

And for fun, the synopsis by JP wiki:
Quote:
Usagawa Rinne, a normal female high-school student, was spending happy days with her lover, Sakaki Guryuu. However, the peaceful days shattered suddenly, On the night of Sakaki's birthday, Sakaki witnessed Rinne get killed after her eyeball was gouged by a girl named "Gankyuu Eguriko" as well as witnessed Rinne revive as if nothing had happened. To the shocked Sakaki and confused Rinne, Gankyuu Eguriko speaks of an "Eden's Apple"...
Hmm... This more blunt and to-the-point one sounds better...

Here are some color illustrations from the six volumes (placed in separate spoiler tags to prevent unwanted spoiling):
Spoiler:

I've only read one volume so far, so I can't say much now (will later, when I do read them).

For volume 1:

Art-wise... I considered the manga artwork superior at first. After reading through the volumes, I now think that the artwork between the manga and novels both have their good points. Though I still think the hooded man and Guriko look better in the manga.
Story... I was surprised at the number of differences between the novel and manga. The overall plot and outcome was the same, but there were still plenty of differences, like significantly less comedy.
Spoiler for and also...:

I thought about translating the first chapter as a teaser for non-Japanese readers, but I gave up after three pages.
Besides being hard to translate, I found it difficult to hold a book in one hand while typing with another.
There was also a person that suggested such a project at Baka-Tsuki, but it didn't seem to go well. First of all, why did that person translated "蟲" to "Worm"...

Hope this gets animated~ It is complete, after all. And it also has a drama CD...

Well 日日日's other work 狂乱家族日記 got turned into an anime and that one is still on-going. I haven't read any of the 蟲と眼球 books as I still trying to get through 日日日's other book 魔女の生徒会長.

So how does 蟲と眼球 compare to 狂乱家族日記

Oh and for the person who translated "蟲" to "Worm"..... I think he was Chinese and really didn't know English that well

I haven't really read/seen enough to make a good comparison, but after one volume of Mushi to Medama and 6 episodes of Kyouran Kazoku Nikki, I find Mushi to Medama to be better. Can't really pinpoint the reason.
Maybe it's just because of the genre difference and that Mushi to Medama is more exciting/interesting.
Mushi to Medama doesn't have the craziness I've seen in Kyouran Kazoku Nikki, which I find to be a good thing.

Never read the novels for Kyouran Kazoku Nikki, so I can't say much about the actual writing style, etc.
KKN is far more unique than MtM, that's for sure, and MtM isn't the most original thing so far, but it isn't predictable like some stereotypical novels (ex. Toradora).
Oh, and one more thing is that I like about MtM is that it is resolute. Completely finished. Unlike the ongoing-who-knows-when-it-will-end KKN.

And... I sound like I'm blabbering pointlessly. Sorry for not being able to help much.
I guess the best way is to try it out yourself.
For a sample, you can always go to MF Bunko's website, search for Mushi to Medama to Teddybear, and read the sample.
http://www.mediafactory.co.jp/bunkoj/
Anyways, it was a good read. The plot felt like it went by smoothly, it wasn't confusing (for a series with terminology...), the characters developed (a lot, both backstory and real time), and it was enjoyable.

How is Majou no Seitokaichou? Don't know much about it except that it is a fantasy-academy story about a witch student council president.

Finished reading volume 2. It's decided, Mushi to Medama rules far above Kyouran Kazoku Nikki.
Before I start, let me just say... The Opening was traumatizing. Volume 1 wasn't too bad, but this volume went to the grotesque level...

Brilliantly done. Finally over, and the series left me very satisfied. Enough to wash away the dissatisfaction I had for the 5th volume's end.
I have no regrets spending money on this novel. I do wonder why something like this doesn't get an anime adaption, ah, this mysterious world.

Final rating is a 9.5/10. Minus 0.5 for the end of volume 5, but that is all.
