100 Girlfriends really isn't about winning over heroines. They fall madly in love with Rentarou as soon as they lock eyes. A few of them play a little hard to get, but they're generally easily added.

The premise are extremely similar. Both feature a guy who is honest to a fault, falls in love with several girls, and decides he has to date them all. Kanojo mo Kanojo just takes it more seriously (no, really).

Shino is moving in! With both a desire to end this two-timing relationship and get over her own love for Naoya (which is easier said than done), but she also has to clean up after Sakisaki as always .

How did Shino and Saki become friends? Middle school flashback time! Shino had it all...brains, athletics, and composure. But what did Saki see? Shopping for a gift for Saki and treating us to Shino in that dress? Naoya really does have a way with the ladies, especially when romcom hijinks land him and Shino in the same dressing room with Shino wearing nothing but a shirt and panythose (and the camera makes sure to show off her butt)...with their butts pressed together...and then Naoya gets a good view of her in front. Lucky dog even back then .

Dang, Shino straight up said if they got closer she'd probably fall for him, and that's why they should keep some distance from each other...and Naoya's reaction being wracked with what he would do if that happened basically foreshadowed his future dynamic with Nagisa after she confessed. In another life, his two-timing could've been between Saki and Shino !

Shino can't help herself. She tries to kiss Naoya while he's sleeping. And who should catch them but Saki, though thankfully Shino's entire intelligence came up with such a clear and obvious solution as plucking his nosehair and Saki is so dumb she believes it .

Shino shower scene! Girl needs to collect herself and how bad she is for Naoya, but of course who should walk in and catch her naked (again) but Naoya. Only this time he's ready to turn himself in for the crime of catching her naked and she has to fight against him and landing the two on top of each other with Shino wearing nothing (again). And of course Saki catches them (again). It still didn't go in this time Sakisaki !

Not even Shino can resist Nagisa's puppy dog eyes and and her delicious dinner, and despite herself she can't help but give Nagisa more tips in making a proper nutritional meal. But even if Shino hates her and shuns her, and even if this two-timing relationship is hard on Saki, Nagisa won't give up on Naoya. And it seems like Shino resents Nagisa not only for what she's putting Saki through but for having the guts Shino lacked to act on her feelings for Naoya .

What was Mirika doing, you ask? Still complaining about her lack of screentime and dragging her sister on camping trips with less than stellar cooking to make vids of. Also of course Saki watches Risa's videos .

Next week: Festivals! Yukata! Mirika rejected! Kissing !

This makes me wonder if SakiSaki and Shino friendship is played as a direct nod to the Japanese fool man and serious man comedy sketch.

The flashback laid out Shino's excellency in top-performing at grades and sports to accentuate that she's the dead serious, studious dere. Meanwhile, SakiSaki is established the dense, goofy dere that slips out of her mouth whatever comes to mind.

My point is that Shino the more she overexerts to have Naoya breaking-up his two-timing relationship with SakiSaki and Nagisa, then the more the results turn the opposite with the three of them getting closer and Shino getting praised as kind by them though was never her intention which looking the gag within context it's actually hilarious.

Another result is that Shino the more she deals with Naoya since she first met him, then the more she's drawn to him, because she can't honestly tell how he will respond next.
He's awkward and a dash of an idiot, but even Shino noted that Naoya is honest and convicted on keeping both SakiSaki and Nagisa-chan loved and cared for.

That's why it works as a stronger comedy by way of being a flawless execution of a classic farce.

All the characters act utterly serious to a completely ridiculous scenario. We even get to see characters in the background reacting like the main five are completely insane.

The execution of the anime series doesn't rely on gimmicks or 4th wall breaks or anything else. The fairly plain animation is sold on the stellar performances of the VAs, flawless joke timing and a little animation stylization for emphasis.

Naoya is desperate to find Saki and Nagisa so they can watch fireworks! And he found Nagsia! But before they can have their big romantic reunion, Saki's other friend that's not Shino shows up and they have to play it cool and not like they're dating. Nice segue you two, totally convincing .

It makes sense that Saki and Nagisa would come up with a plan wherever gets to Naoya first gets first dibs to spending time with him...which makes this Nagisa's turn. Which is all well and good, Saki's enjoying the food and totally forgot about Naoya anyways .

Naoya and Nagisa trying to outdo each other in physical intimacy! First handholding! Then even lewder handholding! Then a lap pillow! Then a princess carry! Then an EMBRACE in said princess carry! They can't keep their arms off of each other !

It's tough keeping your relationship a secret from anyone, but Nagisa's just happy to be with the man she loves, and he's exactly that man because he's in love with another girl .

Poor Saki. She immediately senses something happened between Naoya and Nagisa and her bloodhound nose for cute girls picks up the scent of three other girls on his person. Even when Naoya keeps trying to reset the mood, and it looks like they're finally going to kiss, Saki just can't forget about how she's getting two-timed. And then the fireworks end .

Well, yeah, sparklers are kind of the cliche fireworks makeup solution, but Saki can't hate Naoya for it. Heck, she can't even hate him for the two-timing either. Like, yeah, it's not ideal and it hurts that she's not the only girl in his heart, but at the same time she knows how earnest he is and she doesn't doubt his love for her at all, just like she knows she loves him, and right now that's enough. Even if Naoya always just throws out "I'll figure something out" when it comes to the complicated dynamics of their two-timing relationship. But that's the Naoya she fell in love with .

Oh yeah, they totally forgot about kissing. Though Shino's main takeaway is that Saki might not be serious about Naoya...and maybe her chance to make her move ?

Meanwhile Mirika is talking with Risa (I love how the sisters have matching yukata) and planning to kidnap Naoya...should we legit call the police this time? Is Mirika going full criminal? Or are we just setting up the camping arc ?

Naoya is virtuous to a fault that Shino will eventually fall for him, or rather she'll learn from SakiSaki's mistake and taking the proactive route to admit to herself that she truly likes Naoya.

I mean the four getting separated by the sea of people, and Shino being left with Naoya when the fireworks display is coming close that sounds to me that all the signs are aligning for Shino to be the (un)fortunate winner of Naoya's kiss even if the result may come or not by accident.

My guess is that Shino won't try anything self-serving as a benefit to herself, she'll start "pretending" to go after Naoya herself to try and force Saki to be more assertive by feeling threatened more.

She still cares for Saki too deeply to actually try to do anything for her own personal sake. And of course her plans will backfire because they have to.

Naoya is right though. Saki is the only person who would tolerate this situation and even though she still has reservations, fears, and jealousies about it, which truly does make her very special.

Shino's heart is still wavering, wondering if Sakisaki and Naoya are really in love and what to do with her own romantic feelings for Naoya...and living with him is not helping matters .

Shino really just had to have Naoya and Nagisa act out all their physical intimacy at the festival, huh? It almost seemed like she had the same NTR fetish Saki does. Though she does have a point that Nagisa gets so close to Naoya it's a little unfair to Saki, but Shino is also ultimately jealous that Nagisa gets to be so close to Naoya when Shino just can't give up on him .

I can't believe Mirika shilled out so much money just to set up an elaborate camping set up to lure Naoya out. And it only works because Saki is stupid enough to believe she won a contest she never even entered .

How long was Mirika waiting before seeing the gang were hopeless at camping and needed her help? And then she comes swooping in cackling like a Villainess and showing that camping is literally the thing she's best at other than showing off her boobs and trying to hook up with Naoya .

I can't believe Naoya and Saki were able to put together that this was a Mirika plot. I can believe that Saki's hunger would be enough for her to get over her hatred of Mirika if it comes to eating a delicious meal. She even outright makes Naoya eat Mirika's cooking just so she can eat .

It's funny how Naoya can't fathom how Mirika isn't deterred by his rejection as if he isn't deterred by every time someone tries to get in the way of his two-timing. Though then it comes out that he's attracted to her and just makes everything worse. Saki hasn't beat him up that much in a while .

Oh, yeah, Risa didn't know about the two-timing. I didn't expect her to slap her sister because she's an idiot for falling for a two-timer when Risa thinks she's 10x better than Naoya. The other girls just weird her out for going along with two-timing in the first place .

Shino can criticize Mirika, but Mirika is basically Shino if she acted on her feelings rather than giving up just because he's with another girl(s). Same with Nagisa, really. And she can't fight back against that .

Oh snap, Mirika DID drug their food! Even her own sister! And now she has Naoya all to herself! Watch out !

Though Naoya being into her for who she is as a person is just as good, because she loves just talking to and getting to know him. It's really rather sweet .

Because the only thing as powerful as Naoya's loyalty to his girlfriends is Mirika's feelings for him .

Although then Naoya and Mirika settle into basically flirting and having fun with each other, and Mirika never gives up, so I'm not banking on Naoya winning this one .

Of course the girls get lost and Saki breaks down. Also now she and Nagisa are thinking of what they can do to Naoya while he's asleep .

Saki took the news about the Mirika situation well...which is to say, that he's basically three-timing now and deserves as many punches as she can throw. All the same, he's doing it with the intention of making Saki and Nagisa feel less worried by letting Mirika throw herself at him with the idea of rejecting her by the end of this, though all the girls can't help but respect Mirika for putting her heart on the line here .

I love how on the train ride back Saki and Nagisa are draped all over Naoya. And Shino is now thinking of if it's time for her to make her move, especially if she's more serious about him than Sakisaki. Is it time for Shino to get aggressive ?!
