^Agreed. The animation wasn't really the biggest problem of Asread's adaptations. Comedy series need good directors first and foremost.

They got better at the comedy and delivery in the third season. About at the level of the first. Though the Second season had some good moments as well. Its first six or so episodes had some problems, but the last six or so were much better in comic timing.

Third season had art trouble, and by then had lost the "face" reactions, though they still had the music and some of the sound effects timing working just fine.

Well, being the guy sporting the season 3 avatar, I'm not as negative as my last comment might suggest. Overall I still support the last two seasons. My personal issue with Asread at this point is a pattern of mysteriously bad decisions that should have been no-brainers (
Spoiler for It's tradition:
Losing the faces in season 3?)

If they somehow did bring the season 1 director back, it'd show that perhaps they've learned something this time.

The third season was definitely an improvement over the second and I enjoyed it quite a bit as well. However, the first season remains my favorite by far, so I'd be happier if they brought back that director. The director of the third season would be a fine choice too. Whoever they chose, they need to keep the director of the second season as far away from this as possible.

I hope the 4th season will be as good as the first season, if not better. The comedy level in the first season is just priceless. I love the character design, which is why Season 2 is such a disappointment. Don't usually watch slice of life animes but it's too hard to resist Minami-ke.

Shouldn't there have been another announcement by now?

Probably. But it seems that they've been hyping it in recent chapters of the manga, so something is going on.

((Japanese) Source http://346zakki.blog59.fc2.com/blog-entry-769.html and you can also follow a link to a blogpost about the previous chapter. He keeps quoting teasers from the manga and speculating. Speculation is speculation, but it at least shows they're hyping it.)

My Japanese still isn't up to snuff, but I think that suggests a Fall premiere.

Neither is mine (at all), but I think he says the same thing. Something about the announcements makes him think October, roughly, based on how long these things usually take, but I can't read the original source well enough at all.

he says that because if the march - april production date the earliest we can hope for season 4 is a fall premiere ... granted it's been a year since a left japan so i may be a little off but that should sum it up.

Chapter 200, probably with color, will be out on the 18th, along with more info. The teasers in the chapters still talk about anime production and the speculation is the Fall and possibly a title of "Minami-ke: Tadaima".

That's just a couple of months for tri4 or whoever else to get caught up with the scanlation of the chapters.

Ohta back as director is really all I care about, and I'd gladly wait longer if it meant that could happen.

Well I'm ready for more Chiaki. More Kana. and more Mako-chan.

I'm not sure if I'm ready for more Haruka or Hosaka. The Amazing might be too powerful. (Both voice actors are in Space Battleship Yamato 2199 presently. Ono Daisake is playng Kodai (staring role) and Rina Sato is playing the nurse Makoto.)

For some reason I haven't seen this anywhere else, but they're usually reliable.

It's fully covered over in the "Upcoming" thread, but thanks for posting.

Wow - is that post full of inaccuracies, though...

UPDATE:
OVA to include Chapters 179, 181,185,189,192, and be released 5 October 2012
