Looks like the team REALLY pushed it. Guess they decided it is better to have another filler than to deliver sub par quality.
This is starting to remind me of SHAFT. Making anime to the limits of what is possible, and then any random hiccups throws the whole project for a loop.

Some bad news, it looks like we won't be getting episode 11 on the 24th, and will get episode 10.5 instead, due to production delays again. Episode 12 tentative air date... Sometime in Spring 2013. Take note, for a 1-cour show, showing TWO extra episodes is almost unheard-of.

Well, this series is second series has 2 extra episodes in this season, the first one is Muv-luv Alternatvie: Total Eclipse (but TE is a 2-cour). Maybe they're buying time and money for most climax battle (CGI render is freaking slow) . Hope so.

Panzerklein: Total Eclipse is a 2-cour series though, and it's actually expected for extra episodes to be made to "fill in the gaps" for Blu-Ray distribution. Girls und Panzer doesn't have the same excuse.
EDIT: Mizushima's tweets outright say that he's not sure that Episode 10 will be even ready in time, and the production crew might have to air it incomplete, like SHAFT prior to the success of Madoka and Bakemonogatari.

As for Bakemonogatari? They couldn't even air the "true ending" on time. It was delayed for months. This is what happens when the studio refused to compromise on quality. I am not gonna complain.

As I thought, their trouble is late in time. Maybe CGI, I used a powerful workstation to render a frame of high-res building's inferior, it took at least 1~2 hour per frame, and make some cinematic short movie has same quality of WoT's ones took my team around 1 month and half of time is just for rendering, lolz. Since Girl und Panzers used a lot of CGIs of tank fighting, it cost tons of time.

As sad as I am for any delays, I'd rather they do delay the episodes in order to maintain the quality of animation and direction that they've had so far, rather than rush and give us a subpar ending like what happens with many series. Delays are better than sudden dips in animation and direction quality, and if they can polish the last two episodes in those 2-3 months then I'm eagerly looking forward to the last two episodes.
But still... the wait is going to be killer

GuP will survive as well, if they do the same thing; making sure the final result, the end product, was worth the wait. After all, it is all about the BluRay sales.

The blog post claimed that it was because they tried to make a show about both Girls AND tanks, and doing both well. This was found to be too hard and they had to delay. Essentially they admit they took on a project that was too ambitious.

I read that explanation, but I don't think it's the complete truth. It's too bad you almost never get postmortem on this kind of stuff, it would be interesting to know what really happened.
I wonder though if it may or may not hamper a possible (if it ever happens) second season. |
