And I was one of the few who had read the manga before the anime. I still think the fight against Kyuou could have be done a bit closer to the manga - Tsukune PUUUNCH or something... And don't get me started on S2 of the anime - I think a few in here can remember the fits I threw the entire week after episode 12 had come out.
No I mean there is NO GARLIC present to fight off Moka. We've only seen the seals, magic enchantment and weapons, but no easy to get practical anti vampire garlic.

As for the anime, at least we get a double team of Ginei and and Inner Moka, Ginei really needs some serious air time in the anime, glade R+V manga made it come true in the siren arc.

I read the manga first and tried to watch some of the anime afterwards and couldn't really get through it. It really seemed like they sacrificed 3 hours of story for 3 hours of panty shots and ecchi hijinks. I'm a girl so I'll pass on those, thanks. Having Tsukune stay weak and wimpy almost the entire time doesn't help either.

Other than the panties and ecchiness, the way Tsukune was portrayed was another huge factor in why I dropped the anime.

Not only that, the voice acting was getting to me. Omote's voice was too high, Ura-chan's voice was too low and manly, and Tsukune's voice was too wimpy.

This is quickly degenerating into a another "bash the anime" discussion.

Keep one other thing in mind: this is going by the Japanese version of vampires, not Weestern... only in western does garlic do anything (although I think Chibi vampire said that vampires stay away from garlic because they have heightened smell perceptions and garlic stinks to most people in the first place...)

Sadly, the editors/translators of the professional companies must appeal to all, not just those of us who are true fans... which means that they're going a little too far with the Satrbuck sisters' names...

But I understand why they chose Koko, but all of the sister's names end with an "a" sound of some sort.

Abominable snow girl? I rest my case.

Oh, and they put boxes over stuff instead of re-drawing. That really pissed me off. However, I am surprised that the author doesn't submit in layers of some sort so that the text can be taken right off per say. They also made stupid mistakes like switching names in boxes with a character's picture in it and mixed up monster names in the boxes too.

I thought Moka's family *were* Western-style vampires. I mean, they even live in a damned castle...

If anything, they're just spelling it phonetically.

Yeah there is, it's similar to what the Wong sister is. I remember watching some movies with my parents back when I was a kid, it had to these monsters that came back from the dead and seeked out blood, two effective ways of stopping them is to place a spell talisman on them or placing.. um... I think it was salt, on the ground.

My mom told me they were vampires.

In europen mythology salt have powers to stop evil things as well. Probably because salt could prevent food from deterioration and was expensive.

There is. But western are so popular that even in eastern countries the western image of vampires becomes more dominant. But there certainly is eastern image of vampires.

There are different ways to stop vampires and different vampire abilities to begin with.

Like a vampire cannot enter the house unless invited. vampire can turn into a mist and enter the house (which objects the first stereotype), vampires cannot cross the moving water (rivers, streams, etc, because it is 'living' water) and many other things. In each region there a few different things about them, though it still seems the western and eastern images do have a more differences.

That's a good example of why Koko is a bad name for a person.

It's surprising but every monster has different origins in each culture through out time. R+V has had a nice blend of all of the different monsters around the world.

Mizore is a prime example and because of what monster she is, her name was ruined when brought to NA. They essentially changed what kind of monster she is since she is different from the abominable snowman. They changed her name to match the mythos of NA and that was wrong, so very wrong.
