Thanks for that. But is there a follow-up series from Code Geass? The end was sort of well, open.

1) Props for you to finding a thread you created in 2006.

2) Shion no Ou isn't bad. It's certainly dark in some way, but is more 50/50 shougi/mystery.

3) Kaiji. It's really evil, and you'll have to watch it to know what I mean.

4) And of course, there's Claymore, which isn't dark because of the demons, but it is more because of the plot.

Well... perhaps you could tell us which of the suggestions you watched, and how much you liked or disliked them. Otherwise, any more suggestions will be shots in the dark (excuse the pun).

Ghost Hound and Dennou Coil fall into the category of sci-fi for general audiences, but they both have dark stories. The first concerns astral projection, brain science, kidnapping, and murder. The latter mixes virtual reality with suspicious events including the possible murder of an elementary-school girl.

Baccano! is a terrific show for mature audiences that combines 1930's Chicago hoodlums and immortality. I notice I already mentioned Mononoke and Bakaneko when this thread appeared before, but I'll mention them again just in case you missed them.

Doh, I forgot to answer. Err, thanks for the linked stuff - wasn't really my kind of Anime tho.
Maybe someone has one or two more tips?

Shigofumi is one newer (just finished) anime that is very much on the dark side of human nature.

Mnemosyne is dark. Not just Yuri, but also heavy S&M, as you can see from CeDeR's barbed-wire-wrapped avatar (this is mild, compared to what you see in the anime itself). The villain is a real piece of work...

Death Notes, Code Geass, Red Garden, Darker than Black, Claymore as others have suggested are all great.

Basilisks - This is what Naruto should be if it is catered towards adults and cut out all the fillers. I still like Naruto, but this is 10 times better. The story is about two ninja clans that are mandated by the Shogun to kill the best ninjas from the other clans.

Hirugashi - 2 seasons. Amazingly dark despite the characters and the general animation style which I thought was very kid oriented. Great mystery and gets better which each new eps.

(dark romances)

School Days (starts off nice and cheery, and towards the end you're like WTF)

Koi Kaze (kinda dark, nothing compared to school days)
