The why bother showing it, without giving any significant detail for the anti-fantasy to disapprove that it happened?

For someone to say it didn't happen they wouldn't have enough information make a biased solution to it which leads it to bring itself to a blunt cycle.

Someone will teach you that in later episodes

OK, what exactly does it mean to "flip the chessboard"? I think they said what it was and I just wasn't paying attention...

I believe it means to try to see things from the perspective of your opposition. It involves getting inside their head and figuring out their motives and behaviors and the like.

At least I think it does.

It was explained in Episode 1-2.
Originally from Kyrie, this is the reasoning Battler uses in order to determine the intent of the culprit.
This theory is from the very basis of Chess: both players are playing within the same rules and thus, it is possible for one of them to guess and predict the moves of their opponent.
Therefore, "flip the chessboard" means to "think" like the opponent to understand what was the purpose, the intent of them.

However, this only works if the opponent is indeed "playing" under the same terms. Battler realized quickly that flipping the chessboard doesn't work if the culprit has another agenda than simply killing everyone or looking for the gold.
This reasoning becomes useless against people who commit blunders, or are simply unpredictable/whimsical, or their objectives completely mistaken.

Something that's been bugging me for a bit...
Did people stop calling it Purgatorio in favor of The Meta World because they thought it sounded better, or did they just forget its name?

I think it's just because it sounds better.

Purgatorio-Battler doesn't roll off the tongue as easily as Meta-Battler, for instance.

...Though I don't actually know for sure (does anyone?).

Well the term "puragtorio" was shown only once in Ep1, and that wasn't even mentioned directly by Beatrice or someone else. Plus it isn't clear if "purgatorio" can be a synonym of "metaworld" or if purgatorio is only the name of that metaphysical version of the parlor. There are many other metaphysical places in this story (like the witches's tea room). There is also that "place" at the end of ep4 which is introduced with a completely different name. So metaworld is more of a generic term than "purgatorio".

I think Ep5 made it clear what this place actually is, but it probably depends on your interpretation as well.

I think it was pretty obvious what that place was since it has been mentioned since the start of the series. Anyway, the term meta world / meta sekai is almost official ain't it ?

It was rendered official by the anime home page, since the term is used there. The term however never appears in the novel afaik, not sure about the 07 expansion home page itself 'though.

Ah that's there was that one, but I think that poll was made in a way you could add your own entry, so that is probably fan made as well.
