The mail came from Egil, so he probably knows -something- about the source of the picture.

Uh, this is the first episode that I don't particularly enjoy. We get a formal introduction of Kirito's sister, and the first thing she does is becoming Asuna's "rival", sleeping with Kirito and flashing her breasts here and there. Perhaps the novel gives a better explanation, but in the anime it feels forced. We also get a new villian that makes everyone wants to punch hard in his face. All these new developments feel very...formulaic.

Nobuyuki x Asuna OTP!

*trollface*

I enjoyed this week a lot. I'm glad we had a full episode to pull back for some perspective in the real world before we go plunging back into... elf land? Oh my. Suguha is a spirited and welcome addition to the cast. I hope she joins in the fun.

I'm guessing the SAO veterans, particularly the front-liners are pretty close now, at least online. I want to be a fly on the wall of that support group. Two years is a long time. Egil is the one who Kirito used to buy info from, right? Or was he the blacksmith? Kinda tricky to keep the supporting cast straight.

Also, my sincere enjoyment of this episode aside, I admit I laughed at the rape-y, lip-licking villain and the lovestruck conveniently-not-blood-sibling. If SAO piles the harem tropes any higher, Felix Baumgartner will try to jump off of them.

It would presumably not be that simple, or else Asuna would have already gotten a message to the outside world on her own. People hear "damsel in distress" and immediately think "helpless damsel in distress that does nothing but sit around wringing her hands waiting for the hero to save her", and forget about the "damsel in distress that does everything within her power to resist and escape her captors, they've just done a good enough job of securing her that she's stuck waiting for help."

Asuna's personality is definitely not the first type. If it were as easy as you make it sound, Asuna or one of the other 300 would have long ago learned what was happening in the real world, convinced people that they were one of the still "asleep" SAO players, and their circumstances wouldn't be a mystery, but rather something known to their next of kin, and being actively worked on.

Out of curiosity, why do people keep calling them "not blood related"? They're first cousins. Whether or not it's culturally acceptable in a given part of the world does not change the fact that it's a blood relationship.

First cousins can marry in quite a few states here in the U.S. Not sure why it's such a big deal.

Just a trick of the English language, really. They're blood-related, and they're legally siblings. But they aren't biologically "blood siblings" in the way that the phrase implies. I didn't intend to suggest that they aren't ancestrally related; they are.

Because the show is allegedly "thought provoking". Being critical (NOT looking for flaws, just thinking critically) to some show can be fun (like Umineko). But as a lot of people have expressed, the show may have failed in that regard. You actually do ruin the enjoyment of watching this show if you think too much into it (someone even liken this show to a porn ). My guess though, is that the show didn't really fail regarding this since it never really tried to be that way and it was only some fans giving exaggerated review of the show.

A "sibling" usually means sharing one or both biological parents. Cousins don't normally do that. "Not blood related" here means they don't share biological parents. Normally by sharing parents, then you can't consider any romantic involvement, but with this, it's subverted.

We now know what Kayaba planned for those who died in SOA - they will be sent off to play another MMO in Elf land. So it's a no-brainer what Kirito-kun will have to do to save Asuna from marrying that clown.

ehm, nope. Those who has died has died. We are talking about only 300 people that are still alive but didn't wake up.

The 4 thousand that has died has died during the past two years thanks to a fried brain.

Having relationships with cousins is generally frowned upon though. It doesn't usually make for the strongest offspring.

In other circles, marrying cousins is the norm.

Just another common misconception/myth, statistically, offsprings from pairing of 1st cousins is only a percentage point or two more likely to have genetic defects than random pairings in the general population. To put that into perspective, that's about the same as women having kids at 40, and that's not even going into other factors such as medical conditions, ethnicity etc.

In short, the so-called genetic problem with 1st cousin pairings are severely overblown.

As far as whether it's socially acceptable, that depends on where you live. But again, to put things into perspective, the US is the only western country that has laws restricting 1st cousin marriages, and even then it's still legal in half of the states.

It really isn't as rare as some people think.

I guess so. Your whole post was to me a "standard approach" rather than "thought provoking".

Trust me. She dosn't do what you think. Kirito doesn't see a thing.

If you re-watch the first episode(not Episode 15), she is the same from two years ago...except certain area.

Since the death of Kabaya, the show needs someone to keep show entertaining. Else, what's your reason to watch the show? Seeing Kirito increasing online points and explaining walkthrough? So they have an anti-hero and involvement and....007 aka military intelligence. How they find Kirito or how Kirito find them is not the concern. The gaming is dangerous again.

The cousin stuff was kinda random. Not sure what happened there. She has a crush on him? That's just creepy. Hopefully that doesn't get too much airtime, he clearly doesn't want anyone except Asuna.

Crazy late to the party, but I'll throw my 2 cents in anyways.

Fan-tas-tic episode. Great transitional elements used at a wonderful pace, and a welcome break from the online game setting. I've read the LN, and will say right away that I am enjoying the anime wholeheartedly.

Oh Sugu, if only Asuna didn't exist...you'd be even better than you already are. To be honest, though faithful last episode was a little lackluster for me and made the priority of watching this episode lower in the wake of the new shows of the season. Thanks to this episode however, that priority has been adjusted to the top of the list once again. Can't wait for next week.

What I see in this episode regarding Suguha is how Kirito doing a turn over from a hero become a jerk that can't do anything until Suguha comfort him and give him motivation not to give up, we'll need to wait how the arc develop next. I just hope this won't become damsel in distress arc.
