Ah, Terrorist, don't be shy. My idea was to have Selvaria see a "friend" in Louise, if you know what I mean. I do have a scene where the two (just the two of them) have a chat under the starry night.

On a serious note, I do want Selvaria to slowly drop that ice queen front of hers. From a superior to a comrade, to a friend and finally someone who Louise was glad to call "sister".

@spawn: You can't do much to stop shippers. Heck, those on crack will ship crack pairings.

Personally, I won't write Louise-Selvaria to be like Nanoha-Fate. But, yeah, they do get time alone, and in official dealings, as head of the Rats, Louise would be the one having constant contact with Selvaria. Also, I do intend to have Louise's height at 177cm and weight at 55kg. So yeah, she would be slightly bigger than Selv (not in the bust area, definitely).

After reading several fanfics, I'm strangely compelled to write one of my own (even though I'm already working on two others, which are going slowly). Right now it's only in the embryonic stage, but I might as well share the idea.

Spoiler for Title: Lone Wulf:

To be obvious, my story would star my favorite sniper, Marina Wulfstan. It'd be a look at the war from her point of view - the view of a cold, yet brutally efficient sniper, who has ironically inherited her father's legacy/curse as the legendary Sniper Wolf.

To this end, I want Marina to look like a badass. I'll need to be careful not to overdo it, though. She's still gonna be the "likes nobody" loner like in the game.

Spoiler for Planned personal touches:

• A primary thing I'm wanting to do is work with the sniper Cezary Regard, making him a sort of foil/rival to Marina. As in, he'd hate her guts out, even more than he hates others. He'd be portrayed in a somewhat evil light. (what can I say? I thought Cezary was a jackass)
• Whatever Marina's rank was in the game, I plan to have her a Corporal in my fanfic. That means she'd be up there with Rosie and Largo more often.
• I will be including the occasional Ted joke, with Marina constantly shooting down his attempts to make her crack a smile. Heck, I plan to have at least one joke provoke a potshot from Marina.

I really thought Marina didn't get the credit she deserved. She was such an awesome character, and I'd have loved it if she could've been among the main cast (i.e. alongside Rosie and Largo). But I guess this will have to do. Here's my idea for a prologue chapter (no idea how many I'll do).

Spoiler for Prologue: First Blood:

My first chapter would be at the outbreak of the war. Marina's living in a small village in Gallia, working as a local hunter. Regrettably, this village is one of the first hit by the Imperials. Most of the village's populace is killed indiscriminately while attempting to evacuate.

Marina fights against some of the Imperials, killing at two of them initially. But as more arrive to kill her, she is found and assisted by Largo, the former who also lives in the village (Largo is there helping with the evacuation). After a short skirmish, the three pull out of the village.

This prologue would be a sort of memory to Marina, with the real story taking place later in the war.

Will she have a sniper ally she'll be working with. In the manga, she works with Catherine and has no problems doing so.

I suppose I could have Catherine to some extent. But only in small amounts.

Hoping to stop the coup, Selvaria asks Max to reconsider the deportation. He refuses, and warns Selvaria that the squads would face "devastating consequences" if they went ahead.

So, the combined squads (less some) head for Gregor's mine. However, to their surprise and disgust, Max had stationed some of his best forces to assist Gregor. From his observations of Louise, and her letters of advice to reconsider the deportation, he correctly deduced that a coup would be the logical next step for Louise. Also, the battle would be a testing ground for his latest "toy": the Marmota.

Initially, the fight did not go well. Some of the best from both teams opted not to join in, and even with Selvaria giving everything she had, a stalemate was formed. Then, something happened. Those who opt out earlier had in fact wanted to relocate their families first, and prepare themselves as a contingency plan in case something went wrong. Their presence did break the stalemate, but it was one sniper shot that truly tipped the scales of the battle...

As Welkin fell motionless to the ground, there was stunned silence from those around him. As the medics pulled him to safety, the Gallian Valkryia readies herself alongside her Imperial counterpart. Together, the squads burnt the mine to the ground, freed the Darcsens and captured Gregor. Fortunately, Welkins was alive. However, the shot left a lasting injury on him.

With the news of their victory spreading like wildfire, the squads wasted little time in presenting themselves before Max. Louise wanted amnesty for everyone who had taken part in the coup and Gregor exiled. Action spoke louder than words, and Max had to agree. But, it was clear to Selvaria that the man whom she hoped would at least acknowledge her existence treated her as a weapon, and nothing else...

As the squads celebrated their victory, Louise noted Selvaria's absence. When she saw Selvaria, sobbing quietly by herself, she resolved to do more to make her friend feel loved as a person. When Princess Cordelia invited the squads for a reception, she thought the chance had come for Selvaria to see more of the world. However, as the princess noted the Valkryia among the guests, everyone could see her face darken. When pressed, Cordelia dismissed the attendants, and told the squads the shocking truth behind the Darcsens' prosecution.

This was the last straw for Selvaria. She could accept Max's treatment of her, given that the Rats and Squad 7, to a lesser extent, saw her as a person. But, the feeling of having her whole identity exposed as a lie was something different. As the Valkryia wept, Alicia extended her hand. The teary Selvaria looked up and saw a confident Valkryia smiling back at her. Just as she could live a normal life before her Valkryia powers were activated, Alicia reasoned that Selvaria could try living a life outside her Valkryia persona.

Selvaria had always been proud that she was a Valkyria. Although she was devoted to a man who wouldn't bother to take a second glance at her had she been an ordinary woman, she accepted that, for she knew that her people had a heritage she could be proud of.

That pride slowly cracked as she spent time with the Bathory Rats. Initially, she kept everyone at arms' length, not to mention the veiled insults reserved for the Darcsens once she knew who they were. But, Louise's actions gradually warmed her heart, as the squad roped her in for their activities. She began to climb down from the high pedestal she had been on for so long. It was fortunate, for her clashes with the Gallian Valkyria revealed that mighty as her powers were, there was someone better than her.

After the Gallian war, Selvaria appreciated Louise's heart-to-heart talk with her. But, she thought that she could rough it out herself. Slowly, events would prove her wrong. The battle at Gregor's mine was another blow to her confidence; the secrets to the Valkyrur's powers were secrets no more. However, it was Princess Cordelia's words shook her to the core. The fact that she first removed her hat before exposing the Valkyrur allowed her counter-accusation. But, it soon became clear that she was clutching at straws. Her people had framed the Darcsens for a crime which they had committed, and they pulled it off simply because of the power they possessed. She had never regretted the fact that she was a Valkyria, until now.

But, Alicia's gestures made her realise that she can have another identity. She decided to disappear from the life of the one man whom she loved. She didn't want her taint to affect him. Already, Welkins and Louise had hatched a plan to expose this grand lie. With Irene's help, information about the coverup was left at the doorsteps of many who worked in the media. Soon, the newspapers and radio airwaves were filled with nothing but this. There was an uproar.

And what of Selvaria? With a hair dye and binding her chest (to reduce the size, not eliminate it totally), she became "Grace", and joined the Rats to be trained as a trooper. She swore to herself that she would work her way up the ranks to be by Max's side.

Well, since she IS a well known face in the Imperial army, a hair dye and change in eye colour isn't quite enough for a disguise. Besides, that chest needs to be "restrained". It gets in the way, so to speak.

After doing quite a bit of writing so far for my Marina fanfic, I decided to make a change to what the Prologue will be like. I've also made an addition that significantly changes the back story.

BTW, don't read this unless you've played through the game. I'm saying this to the anime-viewers.

Spoiler for Prologue: Failure - Plot Synopsis:

The Prologue takes place shortly after the Battle of Marberry. Marina is at the shooting range, scoring perfect bulls eyes as usual. She is approached by Ellet and Catherine, who get into a little chat about Marina's background. But when Ellet mentions Isara, Marina strangely misses a shot, much to her shock.

At this moment, Cezary shows up and takes the opportunity to taunt Marina, believing she has "lost her edge". As it turns out, at Marberry, Isara's death was due to Marina missing an enemy sniper (who then killed Isara). These taunts eventually provoke Marina to threaten Cezary, though Welkin, Rosie and Largo show up before a fight breaks out.

With Cezary badmouthing Isara for being Darcsen, Welkin takes Marina's side in the argument. This prompts Cezary to make several nasty comments, including a speculation that Marina INTENTIONALLY missed the sniper. Marina then points out that Cezary also had a chance to shoot the sniper that killed Isara, but intentionally did nothing. Rosie almost kills Cezary for this. Welkin, infuriated upon learning this, expels Cezary from Squad Seven for allowing Isara to die.

That's what I've got so far.

Marina's failure to save Isara is a major plot element in my story. It's a failure that comes back to haunt Marina, who believes she is responsible for Isara's death because she wasn't good enough.

Cezary, after being kicked out of the Gallian Militia, defects to the Imperials. He reappears at Naggiar, fighting for the Empire.

IMO, Welkin at best would let Cezary be moved to another militia squad. Welkin ain't that emotional in the game. But of course, feel free to refute it.

Well, this would happen really shortly after Marberry, so at this point Welkin is pretty shaken up about Isara. And I plan to make the things Cezary says REALLY offensive. These words would easily push Welkin to expel Cezary from Squad Seven.

One Cezary quote I have in mind: "The way I see it, one less dark-hair in the world couldn't be a better thing." Something like that, just to show he is a pure Darcsen-hater.

I should add another point: Marina also informs Welkin that Cezary has been intentionally leaving Squad Seven's Darcsens vulnerable to sniper fire whenever he can. And, in one case even, Cezary attempted to take a shot at Nadine, though this attempt was foiled by Marina, who spotted him. With this fact brought to light, Cezary would face a court martial. Cezary instead chooses to flee and defect to the Imperials, who share his anti-Darcsen views.

I just think Cezary would make a great archenemy to Marina. I never liked him in the game; such a jackass...
