Harukana Receive Anticipation

Harukana Receive is receiving a TV anime.

Plot Summary
Quote:
The story takes place in Okinawa, where Haruka forms a beach volleyball pair with Kanata. Kanata, who couldn't handle the pressure put on her by her short height, had given up on beach volleyball already, but is convinced by Haruka to step back on the sand once again and aim for the junior tournament.

Never heard of this one. Looks like at least a bit of it is translated... I'll take a look.

The 6 scanlated chapters were pretty cute. Didn't know this had enough material for an anime but I am certainly not complaining.

Hrm ... well ... I only read a few chapters of this one some time ago and ... what little I read didn't really catch my interest at the time - volleyball is not really interesting for me, I guess.

Also seemed to be a bit more fanservice'y than many series from Kirara that I remember.

Ah well.

Actually there's zero fanservice in this. You can't really play beach volley without swimsuits.

It's still fanservice.

By that logic any anime with a sport is fanservice. What's next, SoL is fanservice because sometimes they're wearing school uniforms? Ridiculous.

If it services the fans, it is fanservice (fan + service = fanservice).
The author could have easily made this about normal volley, not beach.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. The type of sport has no influence over what is fanservice and what isn't. Free! wasn't fanservice because they were wearing swimsuits but because they had impossibly ripped perfectly built males. Keijo wasn't fanservice because they were wearing swimsuits but because they were using their assets to smack each other into the water. And the list goes on.

Point being clothing doesn't equal fanservice, presentation does. The Harukana manga hardly ever goes into fanservice territory unless you're a guy who goes off whenever he sees a female in a swimsuit.

I don't want to derail this thread, but.

1. The body types in Free! are not impossible. Most low body fat vegan males who swim look like the boys in Free!

2. I do agree clothing doesn't equal fanservice, and that presentation does. And that is my whole point. The creator of Harukana Recieve presented volleyball taking place at the beach, in swimsuits (Contrary to your belief, beach volleyball can be played in something other than a swimsuit, much less skimpy ones).

3. The type of sport does have an influence on fanservice. Keyword is influence.

I would say that Hinako Note has more fanservice than this. So the girls here wear swimsuits. The camera angles don't really focus on servicey shots, and in fact there are several occasions when they could have given us more significant fanservice shots but chose not to do so.

Yes, it's girls playing beach volleyball, which means they're wearing swimsuits. If you consider a girl in a swimsuit to automatically be fanservice regardless of context, then there's nothing we can say. But having just read through it I didn't get the impression that the series was going out of its way to provide fanservice.

Of course, an adaptation could easily turn that all on its head: all they have to do is change the camera focus in the volleyball matches and we could be inundated with suggestive imagery. But IMO it isn't there yet.

Kinda off-topic, but are Kirara Forward serials mostly composed of characters that look older than other Kirara magazines?

The problem isn't that they're wearing swimsuits, but the wrong type of swimsuit. If you actually check out pictures of semi/professional female beach volleyball players the majority of them aren't wearing bisected bikini tops. Not only do they not provide adequate support for the types of moving around they'd need to do, if you're as large as these girls are drawn they're boobs are also viable to pop out of the cup during some intense movement. Not to mention most semi/professional female beach volleyball players aren't that large in the chest. They're usually very fit, and have low body fat, which generally means they're boobs just aren't going to be that big. So while I have no problems with fanservice, the general appearance of the girls is definitely what some of this is.

ÎHope they don't go overboard with the fanservice.
