Hei recieved his powers from his sister basically right around when she caused the explosion in South America and she basically died. The power was never his so he never had a renumeration for it.
Hei was killing contractors during the South American war because he was part of the Syndicate in order to protect his sister who was a contractor. He was actually called the Black Reaper before he even became a contractor.

I'm with everyone who thinks that Yin might be dead or lost in some other dimension. It's funny how bones made us wonder what happened to Bai in the first season. And now we are worrying about Yin, another person very important (like a sister) to Hei. Was also happy to see Misaki. Misaki, if you see Hei, tell him to shave.

Wow, Hei has some really slick moves.
Glad we have gotten more backstory, seems everyone is going after Suou thinking she is her brother. They should all be so lucky to find out the way Hei did Im guessing Suou will offer sniper support for Hei as the season goes along. I think the opening ROCKS And Yin doesnt seem like shes going to come back in anything but flashbacks. That answers the question about where she was in episode 1. |

And it seems like the OP/ED is growing on me. I like the songs alittle more now. And while we see a glimpse of Yin, I was glad we saw a glimpse of Misaki at the end as well Guess she's still hung up on the guy after 2 years lol. Another great episode is all I can say. I'm definitely digging the new fight scene music. |

Very good second episode I'd say and I like things so far though I hope the story stays good and everything. Anyway...
The opening wasn't bad I suppose. Not a huge fan of the song (doesn't exactly mesh with the show to me), but it's alright. Images didn't exactly show much though I did like the throwback to the first opening in season one with Hei walking back instead of forwards like last time. One thing that caught my eye was that the guy standing next to Shion looks like their dad to me so did he fake his death or something? The fight in the beginning was pretty cool I thought and pretty much up to what I would expect of this show. Hei's knives look bigger to me for some reason, but then I don't really recall him using them extensively in combat. The bit with the voice telling Suou to run away was rather interesting since it's Mao's voice, but I'm not sure in what capacity he'll be appearing. He was with all the other dead people in that weird place Hei went to at the end of season one after all, but I suppose we'll see him again at some point. One thing I happened to notice during the fight was that on one side of Hei's neck there is what looks like a large scar so I'm wondering if we'll find anything out about that. Regarding the trio of Hazuki, Shizume and Youko, I'm wondering if they might be our group who are sort of the more positive kind like November, April and July back in season one though it's too early to tell. I wouldn't be surprised if they died eventually, but I do hope they stick around for a while. Hazuki's renumeration scene was rather funny and it may be just me but there seems to be a bit more humor here than in the first show. Shizume seems like a fun characer too and I'm curious to see whether his ability extends to more than making that huge armor, though he's kind of creepy since he seems to have a thing for younger girls. The mention of the ME Squeezer was interesting in that it seems it can run through and either copy or find information from the brain of a person even if they are dead. I'm somewhat curious to see the ME being used on someone since I don't believe we ever have unless the the time that one werid doctor got injected in the neck was the ME. The CIA seem to be big players this time around (I can't quite recall whether they were a large presence or not before). The one woman Mr. Smith (nice to see his VA by the way and now we just need Wakamoto to show up) met seems familiar for some reason though I keep thinking she might be the teleporter from the first season. I'm somewhat surprised to find Hei in their employ since I'd think he wouldn't risk working for anyone lest the Syndicate have agents there, but there could perhaps be some reason for it I suppose. One thing that was quite interesting was that Hei claims Suou's father was already dead when he got there so unless he was lying (possible I suppose), something weird is going on. The scene where Hei was trying to get Shion to hand over the meteor fragment was rather interesting I thought with all the questions she was asking and I'm rather curious to see why he thought of Yin. Maybe she wanted him to stop killing people or something? August 7 ended up being a little more crazy than I was expecting though I thought the idea of his powers and renumeration to be pretty cool. He didn't really do much though beyond that trick with having things seeming to go right through him and returning the bullets, along with pulling those weapons out of no where, but other than that it didn't seem like he did all that much (though Hazuki's note of him distorting the area around him was rather interesting). Surprised to see him seemingly die so soon, unless he was pulling a trick there which Hei might have suspected since he was going to stab him despite electrocuting him. I have to say that the MI6 agents are all dropping pretty fast, which is unfortunate I guess though you can't really replace November 11. The weird energy field at the end was new with what it did as was the little flash we got of Hei and Yin. I'm not quite sure if she's dead and hope not, but it's hard to really say so far. I'm just hoping she's not like Hei's sister was. Since I've read that the OVA episodes on the DVDs feature Hei and Yin between the two series, I suppose we won't get the full story until all are released. The little scene with Misaki was nice (though sort of weird) and I'm curious as to what Hei's star fading but not falling may mean. I have to wonder if the idea proposed here about some aspect or all of Hei's power being transferred to Suou has any merit since her look at points in the opening reminds me of that cold, emotionless look displayed by some contractors. I rather hope not though since I'd rather have Hei keep his. I'm assuming that Nika and Tanya will meet their end next week, though the scene with the two talking was interesting since Tanya didn't seem to be pushing away Nika as much as she did before. The final scene with the computer may be a display of that field being used on Hei and perhaps failing due to Hei's ability to alter molecules or particles or whatever it was.

Fanservice, obviously. ^^
The thing I'm really worried about is Hei loosing his abilities. It's not just super electricity altering material on quantic level, it's his only link to Bai. And like Amber said, Bai have been "in him" since he got the power. So I assume that the power is indeed Bai. That would mean, his sister "disappeared" for good. It would be the reason the star faded away, as it would remained if it was just a transfer from Hei to Suou. |

...I see it so far as a plot device, a restart at level one/bagofspilling so to speak for Hei and Suou who will need to cooperate with one another and support themselves in combat. Rather than it becoming a escort mission for Hei, with Suou being the damsel in distress (and everyone hates Escort missions!). With that said chances are Hei will regain his powers after establishing the character relations at a typical critical moment or turning point after establishing who are enemies and allies, and some of the missing gaps in the series thus far. Though, I'm rather not surprised to see Hei joining the CIA or some government branch. Though I'm questioning how the role Syndicate since we have a couple factions already fighting for Shion and the Meteor Core. |

Well lt's face it......the current trend is that flashbacks/visions involve the flachback/vision-ee(s) naked. You seen Gundam 00 Season 2?

If he does lose them then that would be the thing to hope for. I do hope he gains more allies this time around though I suppose there is something kind of exciting about him and Suou doing it all alone. I see possibilities with the Japanese contractors though if they don't die and I wouldn't be surprised if Misaki helped out. Mao could also help if he can and I would definitely like to see Yin come back if that is even possible. We never really got much info on the Syndicate I thought, other than that they had infiltrated pretty much every agency to some degree and had that huge plan to destroy all Contractors. I'm curious what the fragment will end up being used for in the end. I'm thinking restoration of the real sky and perhaps all Contractors becoming normal people again in the best case scenario, but we'll see.
