You just gave me an idea. What if he's not fully dead (maybe the headshot missed), and Ultear uses Iced Shell on him to keep him alive in suspended animation until they find a way to heal him?
Remember way back in the Galuna Island arc, when Gray tried using the spell on Lyon? Lyon made it clear he himself would still be alive for his minions to revive him, and the reason Deliora died was because it was frozen for ten years, three of which was spent actually melting the ice. So, either Hiro kills Gray, keeps him alive, or puts him on a bus. That or it's just what's written in Future Lucy's diary.

A poster named darkhope translated his tweet to his Japanese fans just after the English one over at NF: "If you really wanted to, you can read the comments [replies] that come to me right? If you're the type who do not like spoilers, I recommend you don't read the responses that come to me and the response tree(threads?) below. The amount of spoiler responses I received for this chapter(well actually its supposed to be on sale next week!) was so excessive [too many] that it was laughable level." |

If Gray actually does die, while I won't be happy, I will be impressed if Hiro actually has the balls to go through with it.
It takes a lot of courage to kill off popular characters. Look at how Kubo reneged all of his character deaths with deus-ex-machina plot devices. That being said, I predict that Ultear is actually going to be the one to die. She's going to reverse time, bring Gray back to life, then sacrifice herself in some manner. That's my thinking, anyway. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if I'm right.

[Maybe he'll resurrect Gray as a demon and Gray will become one of the main villain in the upcoming arc.]
Something i read at Fairy Tail Wikia. BTW the he refers to Zeref. So does anyone here think that it'll make a great plot, i certainly do. |

Knowing Hiro, I'm practically convinced he's just taking the opportunity to show off the people Future Levy said would die in the horrible future back in Chapter 297 so he can milk the drama for all it's worth before finding some way to reverse time (*cough*Ultear*cough) and prevent any of it from happening. But even Hiro didn't promise a "surprise" next week (i.e., tomorrow) to sew some seeds of doubt that I'm really hoping will take root, I am still waiting in agony for the new chapter to come out (i.e., friggin tomorrow). I may even lose sleep over this, since new chapters tend to be up by the time I wake up.
As long as I brought it up, my anxiety lies less in whether or not Gray will live, but rather whether the ending will mean anything in the long run, especially for Ultear, Gruvia, or both. I wouldn't normally let this get to me, but there's also the case of the movie. Like most other anime movies, it's ambiguous where this movie actually fits in the main canon, if it even fits at all. I'd say it's a safe bet that, if canon, the movie is set after the current arc. Which means in the case of Gray and Juvia, not only will Gray live, but nothing will have changed between them. Then again, the movie makes no mention of Ultear whatsoever. So we have that. The next chapter alone won't give me the answer of everything that's to come, I'm sure. But I just want this moment to be real, and not overwritten.
