I think it's official - it shows some links that aren't apparent in the show itself, such as

Spoiler:

Also I like the idea of Neko being the FINAL BOSS. She seemed so mysterious and "more than meets the eye" in the PVs, and she turns into fanservice girl in the anime itself, which is probably to make her seem insignificant. But she's clearly significant, somehow.

Neko as last boss will be pretty neat I admit.

Of course there's also the chance that a pink arrow doesn't mean romantic feelings specifically, just feelings of care that extends beyond normal friendship (which is shown as orange arrows, such as Kukuri's "interest" towards Shiro and her friendship with the random girl). If that's the case, then Neko's "suki" might not mean romantic liking, and Anna's arrow towards Mikoto may very well denote a familial relation, such as being his niece or something.

The second ep was okay. It's quite different from the first ep, which was all Serious Business, whereas this one was more comedic. I expected this ep to show whether the series is worth watching much more of, but it didn't. I'll have to watch ep 3 to find out.

The good:

- Several of the jokes were funny, and some of the moments in the ep were very well timed (like the drawing on Kuro's eyelids - that was extremely well done).
- Yashiro had enough of a brain to try tricking Kuro! Thank goodness. If he'd been telling the truth it would have been cliche city.
- Kuro was amusing and brought comic relief where it was sorely needed.
- I like the cleaning robots.

The bad:

- Neko. She has turned out to be all the dumb catgirl cliches I was hoping she wouldn't be. The writers will have to be very good if they want to salvage her.
- The ending sequence is blatant creepy fanservice. Would a bit of subtlety have killed whoever thought that one up?
- I think the direction in this series is hit and miss. It's spot on a little of the time, but the pace lags at others. I heard that the director is a first-time director, so maybe that is it.
- The writers failed to show how it is that Yashiro, Neko and Kuro got from a life or death situation to being willing to stop for breakfast. It might be okay if the rest of the series is going to be silly nonsense and the first episode was a misleading anomaly, but right now I'm inclined to think it's just bad writing.

The Bizarre:

Some of the characters are acting in an incoherent way. As of yet I can't tell for certain whether this is all on purpose and is meant to illustrate their characters, or whether it's purely a bad characterisation issue. Time will tell.

- Yashiro shows presence of mind and self-preservation when he tricks Kuro into letting him escape, and when he tricks Skateboard Guy into fighting Kuro. But later on when he's running for his life, he stops in a relaxed way to chat and help a girl pick things up. And he tries to persuade Neko to put clothes on as they run.
- Kuro supposedly wants to kill Yashiro-the-crazy-evil-murderer, believes Yashiro to be that person, and on the face of it he's taking it very seriously. So why was he giving the guy he believes to be a crazy murderer hundreds of opportunities to kill him in return? And later on, why did he agree to stop to prepare breakfast? It's funny and all, but it doesn't make sense.

It's starting to feel like the story is going out window and instead focuses on the character development. I don't mind that as long as it is as entertaining as this episode was. I was completely lock on during every minute of it. I really enjoyed it though. With this high quality animation it feels like the world is brought to life.

I actually prefer the seriousness of the first episode to this episode's sudden comedy genre whooplash. I agree that it makes no sense for Shiro to act so calmly over someone wanting to kill him and all that, but I guess I suppose the director realized that one entire episode of someone being after Shiro's blood in a srs bzn way will creep/bore out some people. I still kind of believe (or at least, hope to believe) that Shiro can probably save himself if he tried, like he actually has some kind of flashy magic defense capabilities that he's just reluctant to show, which is why he isn't really taking things seriously.

I just realized Kurou brought a briefcase full of kitchenware when hunting for Shiro. Maybe he intended to cook for them all along!

Kuro is an extremely good and smooth fighter, and he isn't dumb, per se.

But he's soooo very caught up in being the honorable samurai-esque warrior that it limits his thinking a bit. He's kind of the Japanese equivalent of a boy scout, so that means he's actually a generally good-natured guy, but he can be easy to trick.

Okay, after looking through the 100 Visuals on Tumblr, I'm pretty positive Anna has a crush/liking/obsession on/with/for Mikoto. She says many things there like "Mikoto's red is the most beautiful red" and "I cannot live without red. I'll be distressed. You're my world's color." and all those things. I'm willing to bet that she becomes yandere.

And Neko's liking for Shiro may be romantic too, since she says many times there too that "I am Shiro's Neko, and Shiro is my Shiro" and "I hate clothes! I hate leeks! But I like Shiro!" etc.

To be honest I was kinda baffled at that...

But this is just far more egregious.

But he didn't drop the issue, he postponed it. It's just a cease-fire. Of course he could push it, but there's very obviously no point in doing so, so might as well give up for the time being and get some food and rest. (Besides, they'll need to go back to the issue sooner or later, if only to give some exposition on Shiro...). The thing about Kurou, he's just not the right person for this sort of job. His conviction wavered when Shiro claimed to be innocent. He managed to harden himself, but instead of executing Shiro right away, he got all emotional over Shiro's story about his sister, and gave him enough time to come up with an escape plan. And then when he finally tracked Shiro down, Kurou was stupid enough to get caught up in a cat-and-mouse (or rather, dog) game even though he was obviously on the losing side, wearing himself out in the process. And right now he's found himself in a very unexpected situation where he's not in control and ended up getting swept away, so to speak.

Basically, it's not horribly realistic but it's the sort of thing you don't need to think too deeply about. It's a bit like all those Looney Tunes cartoons when someone chases Bugs but Bugs takes control, presents the pursuer with some situation and they end up playing along.
Yeah but he wasn't just swept away. He even decided to act the perfect guest and decided to cook for them and the ending does seem to suggest there was some shift in his perspective of Shiro. I find it incredibly hard to believe he's going to try and kill Shiro right after he finishes his meal now. It seems more like he's going to listen to Shiro and asses the situation before deciding to just keep a watch on him now.

With Looney Tunes it's a comedy all throughout. In this the Evil King case is going to remain a relatively serious issue so to suddenly rely on developments through Rule of Funny is definitely weird.

I know it's a strange turn in genre in Episode 2, but it might not be that the story is teetering merely on Rule of Funny. I mean, with the whole cooking breakfast thing, Kuroh HAS been chasing Shiro for the whole night. That's hours and hours. When the scene cuts to morning, and Kuroh yells his usual "by the orders of Ichigen Miwa" bullcrap, he's clearly already more of reciting his catchphrase instead of truly believing in it. IMO by that point, after chasing Shiro for so long, Kuroh isn't so dumb as to still hate Shiro and want desperately to kill him - he'll probably have doubts by then, however slight, that Shiro might be innocent after all. Heck, he acted like a perfectly normal teenage boy. He helped a girl pick up oranges. He tries to get Neko covered. He acts NOTHING like crazy colorless king on the TV. Thus, by the point of morning, Kuroh probably doesn't really want to kill Shiro anymore. It became more of a reflex than anything else, and by that point an odd friendship has begun to form between the three of them.

Shiro is quite the character, isn't he?

I didn't think he would be clever enough to nonchalantly trick his pursuers into going along with his pace. Aside from that initial lie he told, he even managed to turn two pursuers against each other with a few choice words. As such, I was mildly disappointed when he actually went back to his dormitory, the most obvious place to look, as if nothing happened. Well, to be fair, he didn't intend to leave behind his school pin in the first place, but the bounty should have already branded him as a marked man at that point. Or perhaps people don't take bounties from that particular gang all too seriously, I guess?

Also, I'm not too sure how the katana guy went from wanting to kill him to eating a meal with them. Does he not take this task as seriously as he says? Well, it doesn't really matter much. It's pretty much established at this point that his behavior is guided by a specific code of ethics. This instance might just be another example of such ethic-bound behavior.

Kuro stated that he judges by actions. Shiro at no time fought back. He also stopped to help a girl and has a magical cat as an ally. Kuro prob judged that he needs to reevaluate the situation.
