Takano can never hope to live up to the killing instinct that is Rena. Even when Takano was conversing with her, Rena was still the one in control of the conversation as well as the clear superior of the argument. Takano had no chance.

Now that Minagoroshi-hen has ended. Is it now safe to read the Matsuribayashi-hen puzzle pieces?

No. The Matsuribayashi pieces are part of Matsuribayashi. Many spoilers are there that may be shown in the anime.

Yes, and considering the length of Matsuribayashi-hen, without the pieces, there is no way they will "strech" it to fit the remaining 11 episodes.
They will certainly cover some pieces in the anime as well.

Ok, I'm gonna start reading them now and I'd look forward to them being animated.

Oh my there are so many here. You'll need like at least 4-6 episodes to cover this all.

Episode 13 is awesome beyond words. Best part is when Rena had the guts to laugh at Takano at gunpoint.

Question: Where the hell was Akasaka? I thought he offered some help for Rika in Episode 7...

not at all.
As expected from the consequences of a "saved Yukie", Akasaka didn't have the chance to listen to Rika's "happy" murders fortune telling.
Akasaka came back in Hinamizawa to spend some time with his wife, while showing his earnest thanks to Rika.

Yes, Akasaka was still on his trip with his wife, that's why he was nicknamed "bakasaka"

OK, just finished reading the matsuribayashi-hen pieces (and somehow, I wished that I actually played the actual mini-game of putting the pieces together). It got me hyped up for matsuribayashi-hen.

Spoiler for A certain piece in Matsuribayashi-hen:

Hmm, I see. It just bothered me after watching the episode and re-watching Episode 7.

Wonder if he could have done something if he was in Hinamizawa...

Well... It will depends if DEEN will animate this "peculiar" TIP/Piece about him.
Akasaka is a VERY powerful ally, and i believe Daybreak players and/or gamers/spoiled guys know what i'm referring to.
(a_operation BGM !! \o/ )

The thing is: the tide of the battle could already be changed if Ooishi wasn't killed before the operation. So akasaka could probably do something. Nothing in set in stone, as you could see with the "kids alone".

Incredible end to this chapter. And confirms what I thought that the final massacre was carried out, at least officially, as a last-resort sterilization. And 34 really astonished me here. I knew she was very, VERY sick, but this is crazy. I don't know about gods and men, but she has truly surpassed every level of sadism and psychopathy I've ever heard of. And I'm now certain she will never take some sort of high-ranking position where she'd have to sit behind a desk while others get to bathe in blood.

Stupid question - why is Takano referred to as "34" by some posters?

She didn't need a chance - she had a gun.

Sorry, I'm lazy and shorten names at times. Since the name Miyo is spelled with the kanji for 3-4, and since the aftermath rumors played on that name with a "File #34", I just started to adopt the abbreviation. Basically the same reason I started using "K1".
The stuff about "control" and "victory" with Rena is a little like Gandhi's story: You can kill a person, or beat them, or torture them, but you don't have any true control unless they choose to submit to you. In terms of pure determination, psycho drive and the ability to instill fear in your opponent, Takano 3-4 is completely inferior to Rena, so her victory was obtained through the major handicap of a gun, high ground and backup goons.
That said, Rena loses completely in the realm of unprovoked, obsessively sadistic bloodlust. I could see her character as the center of a horror movie. Something like "Bride of Hannibal".

Broccoli or cauliflower?

That was the best part in the episode!

I also liked the Rena laugh <3

But still, this episode was kind of sad even though I knew it would end this way.

Was anyone reminded of Kenshin by Rena's reversed cleaver attack? Nonlethal badassery.
