Who had the brillant ideas of putting so many bear traps? I got more hit by bear traps than Ganados. It's ridiculous sometimes especially when the dog or wolf has to be saved

Yeah, they're annoying. Thankfully they disappear after a while.

About to finish chapter 3. It really seems Capcom wanted to expand the game's length by expanding the open world. I mean, in the remake Leon has to first find fuel to activate the ship which was already working in vanilla. It's cool that he carries two guns at the same time but I never tried switching them in real time (I think RE6 offered that option). Also, I've just realized how insane is surviving. Leon can even eat snakes like Big Boss during Metal Gear Solid 3 to recover.

Remake is amazing. It's not a 1:1 transfer, but IMO the most important stuff has been improved: combat, treasure hunting and weapons.

I first hated the bear traps, but since ganados also fall into them, they can really help you out. It's not really an open world, just big areas that you explore from many angles.

Which guns do you have on Leon? Should only be the silver ghost that early on...right? In any case, I am a firm believer that handguns should be held with both hands and carefully aimed, even in RE4 which is over the top action.

I had never thought to compare Leon to Snake, good call though.

Heard Leon Kennedy was partly a reference to Jean Reno's movie "Leon: The Professional". Apparently, there is supposed to be a gun called Mathilda in reference to Natalie Portman's character from the same movie. So far, I'm using just the first gun and shotgun. I do use grenades if the enemies come in group.

Oh right, the shotgun. Mathilda is indeed one of the weapons in the game, but the good thing about RE4 is that all weapons are awesome in their own way, even the knife - maybe especially the knife. Grenades FTW! Flash bangs are safer though

How do you like the ammo crafting system?

So far, I am only using the first gun and shotgun. I don't really see the point of creating ammo when compared with how the original game already gave me ammo. Feels like something Bear Grylls would do. Still, I started chapter 4 and it gave me God of War flashbacks due to Leon travelling around a lake designed like an open world. If only he had a boy to tell stories.

I suppose it's good you're saving mats because you'll need those ammo mats later on.

Found Ashley in the Church. Still, it really seems Capcom wanted to add more puzzles to this remake. Kinda weird considering they did the opposite with Devil May Cry 5 which focuses more on action like Resident Evil 4

Did the church have anything extra? I only remember the stained glass one, which is straight from OG.

I think there were blue arrows. So far I replaced Leon's gun with a Punisher but kept the vanilla shotgun intact. My latest save file was when I reached the "Big Cheese" who looks a lot like a tall Mr. White. Still, so far the hardest fight might have been when I had to face two elders who wielded chainsaws.

Punisher is pretty solid. Not the best handgun, but very useful for what lies ahead, especially upgraded. You've probably advanced by now, I don't remember if the game gives you a warning that once you enter the castle, there's no going back. If you've got the map, you can check how many treasures you've found or missed - it doesn't reeeaaally affect your playthrough (even if you miss weapons), only your completion status.

Entering the castle after defeating that Mr. White wanna be. Gotta say, they really improved the handling of Ashley. If she is wounded once, I don't have to search for healing items but basically seek for her safety and then tell her to get up. The thing I had to change for the firepower is Leon's shotgun as the merchant had quite a pretty good weapon that I could combine with another part to improve Leon's aim from far distances. Still, the game suddenly got a bit harder since the enemies are throwing fireballs.

That part was a pain for me. They were somehow ridiculously good at aiming (either at me or Ashley), I could barely advance.

Finished chapter 7. Buying the sniping gun for Leon was probably the best considering the castle gives a lot of challenges involving the escort mission as well as Ganados wielding guns. I kinda cheated when Ramon sent me all his men at the same time as I simply made Leon throw a grenade to all of them and they simply died. Even the music went silent in such a short time. The sniping gun also made a miniboss fight easier as his weakpoint was located in his back.

Spoiler for plot:

Sniper is really, really good. Even with the best weapons in the game, it always comes in handy. Grenades are meant to be used for crowds, so it's not cheating - just good use of your equipment! You might notice the difficulty going up a bit from this point onwards...

Chapter 10 sure is tiring with so many journeys in that big castle but I really hate when the character is forced to explore a dark area which makes the combat a bit boring including when playing as Ashley and when Leon falls to whatever dark area (reminded me of Return of the Jedi) and has to reach the top again.

Also, noticed that when defeating certain enemies Leon's original persona awakens and starts pulling one or two oneliners. Still, I kinda like how subtle are his interactions with Ada in the remake. It's like he actually hates her for her manipulations in 2 or something.

I think that's the lowest part of the game, late castle is where it becomes more house of the dead than Resident Evil, at least for an hour or so. Pull through!

Just done the rail part of the game with Luis. It almost felt like a comedy

I got the Matilda gun. Talk about lore behind the scenes.

Finished chapter 11. I love the fact I didn't have to pull quick time events for Leon vs Krauser but I wasn't very good at the knife fight. Still, Luis deserved better ;_;

Just when he had two lines about his backstory he is stabbed like nothing. It kinda reminded me of Guns of the Patriots when we had a completely different fight and we gotta help the dying one by sharing a smoke.
