...what the BLEEP.

Anime is pulling out ALL the stops now- Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, Bastard!! and now Spice and Wolf?

The next question is if it's a reboot or continuation.

While I would prefer a continuation, a remake would be great too. One hopes that Jun Fukuyama and of course Ami Koshimizu will be reprising their roles. Holo IMHO cannot sound as anyone else.

I've had this sig image on me for nearly 15 years for a reason, and that reason is today.

All hail the Goddess Holo!!

Damn, no season 3?? Starting from zero? Do we have to go through the initial relationship between Holo & Lawrence again? The old anime was perfectly fine for today's standard. It would be a spit in the face if this new anime can't even go further than S2.

...WHAT?!

Is this for freaking real?! I thought they only cared about those VR games?! The manga/LN finished years ago to the point they were doing material on the kid!

Would prefer continuation. I want to see them go to the end of the manga/LN.

This is the only LN novel series I physically own, completed, start to finish. I paid out the ass to have Amazon ship the books to my country because this is impossible to find locally back when.

Technically it would be impossible to even do half of the series in a 23-26 episode run, but you COULD cut out some of the fat and subplots to get in as much as you could in a run. However a lot of the IMO stuff you could cut out are after the halfway point in the series.

Sure seems to be a lot of arguing about whether it's a new season or remake, wish announcements weren't so vague. Unless they got Brotherhood levels of money, it would only make sense for it to be a continuation.

*Falls out of bed* What the heck!? Am I still asleep!? I'd more or less accept that we'd never get any more of this series. It's just been that darn long after all. But this is absolutely fantastic news!

As for sequel versus remake, I hope it is a sequel. The original anime were excellent. There's no way they can seriously improve on them. It'd just be spending time playing catch up. The phrasing can go either way. Considering the first two seasons were done by different studios it would be awkward to call it season 3. But a remake could be fine. It would just mean we're talking a long wait for material that hasn't already been animated.

Horo making her comeback! Please keep the same voice cast. Just wouldn't be right without Koshimizu Ami and Fukuyama Jun.

This really is the era for inexplicably bringing back franchises people never thought we'd get continuations too. Not that I mind .

I'm pleasantly surprised by this news too, but Koshimizu Ami as Horo may not be guaranteed. According to this Japanese tweet, Koshimizu Ami started her own agency, which may snarl the possibility of her returning as Horo if her new self-started agency means she asks for too much money to portray Horo again.

Can anyone here translate this tweet from Koshimizu Ami? I'd very much like for her to reprise this iconic role of hers, but if there's one thing I've learned about the Japanese seiyuu industry, it's that the seiyuu are ultimately replaceable. Look at how they replaced the entire Japanese voice cast when it came time for D. Gray man's new anime season, or how none of the original version's Japanese voice cast were invited back when it came time to remake Fruits Basket. It's like the original voice actors were just obsolete trash to be tossed out in favour of "fresh meat."

And why did they have to wait so long to make a new season of Spice and Wolf anyway?

I do not need to remember the trauma of the absolute recasting of D.Gray-Man. Did anyone come back for that at all?

I'll just presume she's coming back until something different is announced. Otherwise it takes the pure hype out of this announcement. Plus new agency or not I'm sure she likes getting work . Recasting does happen. But honestly those examples seem like an extreme outliers. There were a lot of issues connected to the D.Gray-Man change of almost everything (animation studio, character designs, voice actors, etc).

They may not bring everyone back. Which is definitely not a big deal with how the story tends to leave the supporting cast behind as the journey continues. But I've seen way too many sequels and remakes pick up the original main cast to worry about it at this stage.

Can't really say much since we don't know anything about the character designer, the VAs, or even the story.

But hey, it's a lesson that you could be caught flaming your peers on 2ch and still remain prominent enough in the industry to get an anime adaption, as long as you continue writing.

Tiger and Bunny too. This year has been making some strong comebacks with older series.

Cool. I've been looking forward to the audio book version coming out in about a month's time. Narrated by J. Michael Tatum. And now we get more anime, too?!

It's all a bit scary to learn one of your favorites is getting more content years later. See: Madoka Magica... Yes, I'd prefer just more of what we had. Definitely want the old cast back. Both of them. Beyond that, just make it good.

Are you saying that the author of Spice and Wolf was "caught flaming" his peers on 2ch? What happened there?

What were the issues that happened to the new D.Gray-Man season anyway?

Sure, Koshimizu almost certainly likes getting work. But clearly she started an independent agency for a reason. It could be that she's trying to secure better working conditions and compensation contracts for herself and anyone willing to sign onto her new agency, which has historically been something that Japanese corporate types have frowned on (why else do you think that there hasn't been a history of unionization in Japan, the very country that invented a word for "death by overwork," that being karoshi?).

Recasting Koshimizu and Fukuyama would indeed kill the hype the fanbase has built over this announcement of S&W's new season. But those examples may be less extreme than you think. Muv-Luv Alternative, a well-loved story in its day that supposedly even inspired the author of Attack on Titan to write his magnum opus, entirely ditched its original voice talent in favour of an all-new cast for an anime adaptation that has been widely considered to be botched at the very least, with the word being that they may have switched to the all-new cast to avoid paying so much to the original cast of whom not a few have become well-respected veterans in the seiyuu industry. If the people in charge can do that to MLA, who's to say it can't be done to S&W?

Maybe I've seen too many sequels and remakes not have the original main cast reprise their roles to be as confident as you are. But the only thing we can do is wait to find out.

Yeah, totally. Happened quite a while back, but there was an info leak on 2ch where people were able to get the IPs/track the posts of people using the paid account system (probably Ronin).

More specifically, he, along with other authors like the one who did Kamisama no Memochou, are suspected of grouping together to flame the author of Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (and maybe others too, not going to go back deep into researching this)

Kamisama no Memochou's author issued an apology, but Spice and Wolf's has not even till this day. After the leak, he has stopped posting on his blog and Twitter.
Memochou's author's personal site is already dead, but of course, snapshots of his apology still exist to this day

I just thought the new season was too gay, but I don't think this is an anime-only problem
