Better picture of the hand.
Better overall quality too.

This picture looks like a painting with no frames. Still a creepy hand nonetheless.

Melonbooks having it pretty much confirms it's authenticity doesn't it? Now all that's left for me is waiting for Paletweb to have it and place a pre-order.

Thanks for the clarification between San and Bara, as I was somewhat confused by the (still) inadequate english wiki page.

After a night's rest and a day to think about it, I present my blue text (*cue dreamenddischarger):

Spoiler for Anti-fantasy speculation on recurring events + EP5 materials:
Well, that sounded more like a summary of the discussion in this thread, but hopefully my first point turns true, as I was really happy about arriving at it this morning. Can't wait until August to see all of these points blasted to kingdom come and me crouching in a corner bashing my brains out.

That golden line down the center is reminiscent of Kinzo's robes.

about that women/man in the portrait, is it just me, or does it look like they're carrying some sort of staff? It looks a bit to straight compared to the others for it to be a tree. I know that there are the other two straight things on the left side above the chair, but it looks different.

How clever... this new image covers the mysterious human (?) shape.

Wouldn't that be a huuuuuuge staff? If you take a close look to the perspective it seems a bit odd to me? Looks like the staff would be very thick if that's the case.

Actually, I just thought it's some kind of street lamp. Although a quite randomly placed one. Heh.

I really doubt that I'll be able to stay away from spoilers while Ep 5 is being translated.

And to whoever says the in-portrait-portrait has no frame, look a little closer.

since the small girl has blue hair, she is either:
a) kanon-beatrice, since ark blue and black can be mistaken.
b) nanjo-beatrice, he had blue hair when he was young.

I'm actually not very supportive of the idea of a male witch... because you'd probably call him a sorceror or something. Plus it feels as if that the very idea of the witch linked to the form of Beato makes it exclusively a female issue.

Unless we're talking about say androgyny or hermaphroditism, and that's just creepy.

In Witch Hunter Robin the term "witch" was used for male too, but yeah I agree with you. And the Nanjo-Beatrice idea is quite disturbing unless that "Nanjo" is actually terumasa's granddaughter.

I assume you're joking, but it's still not the most ridiculous thing I've heard about this girl... well, okay it is, but not by much.

Baseless speculation is baseless... how are you people coming up with Natsuhi-Beatrice and young Kyrie? She looks NOTHING like them and there aren't even the slightest clues towards them being directly connected.

Maybe kyrie is also very old and that's why her hair turned white, she does not have to be that old either, if she got lucky genes, as a friend of mine already had white-gray hair in junior high.

since I can listen to the anime, they use a term that sounds like maho- majo for the withces, which I have heard used in other animes to reference magicians regardless of sex, I am waiting for someone who know japanese to explain that.

"majo" is female only, and that's what it's used in the novel, "mahou tsukai" is for both sexes.

魔女 Majo

魔法使い Mahou tsukai

Notice the first Kanji "Ma" is what really means "magic" (or demon, depending on the context). While the second kanji in "majo" means "woman".

"mahou" means "magic" "method", but substantially means "the art of magic" and you can simply translate it as magic, "tsukai" means "user".

Thanks, now I know Mahou and Majo are two different words.

Come to think of it, it does look like there's a second figure in the background/a second background figure...
