Once the new FF movie fails perhaps they'll grow a bit more desperate in regards to that franchise. X-Men will probably remain firmly in their hands though, not that it's a bad thing since they wouldn't fit in the MCU

The biggest disappointment is the movie dates being pushed back to accommodate the new Spider-Man movie. :/

Small price to pay IMO.

Agreed. It also shows the timeline they're using, and acting as if anyone doesn't know it's going to be Captain America: Civil War that he appears in.

Yeah, not sure how they plan on keeping things subtle on where he'll be introduced. It's Civil War or Doctor Strange, and one of those just seems far more likely than the other.

Either way definitely a pretty crazy development here. It just literally moved everything around. Spidey doesn't make room for the MCU, the MCU makes room for him .

Still think it's kind of a shame that Garfield's Spidey gets cut short, but I also agree that it doesn't seem like Sony could actually do it properly on their own anyways.

Garfield was a great Spider-man, but he was a horrible Peter Parker, which was the opposite of Maguire. Granted, it both cases is was the director's fault, not the actors. Maybe the 3rd Spidey will be done right on both fronts.

Bring back the organic web shooters
It makes more sense in the context that
1) as part of the complete "spider mutation" package
2) it allows a struggling photographer out of high school to actually NOT be dead-broke from constantly putting money and time aside to acquire rare and probably-illegal chemicals

I agree he wasn't a great Parker, I don't think he was a bad one though. At the very least he got the character right that I care more about seeing done right. Peter is important, but I'd just rather get the Spidey side right which they did there.

Crossing fingers they get both aspects down with this next one.

Please, no on this one. I hated those organic web shooters. It was creepy as heck. I don't care about the money plot holes if it means having the mechanical web shooters in there . After all if we're going to go spider mutation full out then let's give him multiple arms, or have the webs shoot from where they should be.

The mechanical web shooters let you show his intelligence and ingenuity. Lets him adapt to different threats and does give the classic dilemma of potentially having to change cartridges mid-fight.

Being broke is part of his thing. And while the movies for some reason made the webbing seem like some sort of super hard to come by thing that might be illegal, in the comics he was able to make his webbing from stuff he bought at grocery stores. In the 90s, he could make a small batch for $20. Nowadays it's more due to inflation, but it's really not a big deal.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this deal. On one hand Marvel Studios will be getting a new Spiderman to fit into the MCU, on the other Sony still has some creative say in the character. I don't know but I don't usually trust when two major corporations have shared creative oversight over a character.

It has been confirmed that Spider-man will debut in Civil War.

This, of course, surprises no one.

And here I was totally betting on it being in Doctor Strange .

The dates being pushed back is a small price to pay. Also I'm sure everyone already knew it was going to be civil war he debuted in.

Also I guess it's confirmed Garfield is being replaced.

It's almost as if those hacked and leaked emails from months ago that Sony vehemently denied are true. And no one was shocked.

Still, without the X-Men the civil war story arc is NOT going to work.

The core of the entire Superhero Registration act is anti-mutant racism, which has always been an allegory of racism on a societal level.

With only a dozen or supers instead of an entire race of oppressed mutantoutcasts to fight for the rights of, Steve Rogers' crusade will turn from Noble and Relevant into Self-Righteous and Out of Context.

Sony: Just let the X-Men Go Home.

Fox is responsible for the X-Men thing, not Sony. And to be fair the X-Men movies were the best superhero movies around until Marvel Studios begun it's thing so...

While we're at it: Isn't this the PERFECT time to retire Peter Parker?

If we recall correctly, there is a young African American Gentleman by the name of Miles Morales who has taken up his mantle in the Comic Universe by now.

For one thing, it would mean we DON'T have to wait for War Machine to get out of the humvee for a cameo for a cast of actual racial diversity.

And more-importantly, it would mean having a new generation of kids who can have a hero they can look up, and relate to, without pretending that they are white inside to do so.
