(CR) Date a Live V (Season 5)

Starting off the season not only with Kurumi out to take on the TRUE Phantom, not just Reine, but also what Mio dreams about...the sea and waves...as we kick off DAL Season 5 .

Shido catches up the girls on what's been going on with him and Kurumi, and funnily enough talking about Mio while Reine is RIGHT THERE, but I like how Mana is more willing to buy into it because it's her brother even despite her aversion to Kurumi .

How do we get to the truth of the siblings and Mio? Why, let's use Mukuro's Michael key, of course! And Miku just had to make it sexual .

Well, peering through Shido's memories doesn't really provide more than a scene of a crater and Phantom/Mio hanging over it, but at least Shido woke up...thanks to the indirect kiss of spiritual particles in the area. And Miku is the only girl delusional enough to buy into Origami's latest nonsense about tonguing Shido with particles. And she wants to do a "practice session" with Tohka and Natsumi, which I can only assume means doing the actual deed in a threesome .

Westcott knows exactly what Kurumi is doing and plans to overwhelm her with his attempts to kill Shido, because he fully intends to succeed, and he's even got Neebicole carrying around one of her clones' severed heads .

Eyepatch Kurumi! Going out of her way to visit and warn Shido, and she wants a little gratitude for all the effort they're putting in to protect Shido! And Shido responds with that and more, as he fully intends to steal a kiss from Kurumi, seal her, and make her his honey by the end of this. And this Kurumi is totally into that .

So obviously to stop DEM they need to take out Westcott and Ellen...but how do they do that when Westcott can see through all their plans with Nia's Inverse powers? Though Nia is smart enough to be aware of that but dumb enough to fall for Maria's ploy to electrocute her for the insulting nickname. Guess she's not 100% genre savvy .

Kurumi wants to shoot eyepatch Kurumi for acting on her own...though she's FULLY aware of what Shido said and is absolutely flustered by it. And maybe that, as well as wanting all the numbers she can get, is why she ends up sparing her more honest clone .

Oh hey, AST! We haven't seen these girls in forever! And Origami warns them about DEM and the truth about the Spirits, and how they shouldn't be part of the upcoming all-out war...even if it means risking their jobs and possibly prison time in the process. Though if that wasn't enough, Origami revealing she's a Spirit by firing a Metatron Laser at her captain might've just done the trick .

Kurumi summoning up an army of her CGI clones to fight DEM as the climactic "date" begins .

Sweet ARMS ED! With Reine at the beach and meeting up with Shido, transforming into Mio and kissing him! Though it seems to have just been a fantasy on Reine's part...but a good fantasy .

Would it really be DAL if you didn't hear Kotono Mitsuishi's narration at some point ?

It's been so long I can't remember if we've already seen Shido's backstory and he forgot again or if I was just spoiled about it. So I'm just going to say nothing on that. I usually dislike recap episodes, but when your show is on its fifth season and premiered 11 years ago... maybe make one. Instead they picked up right where the previous season ended. I would have rewatched the show, but I honestly didn't have the motivation. It's far from being one of my favorite, but I like Kurumi enough to want to see the end of her story.

We have not, at least not directly. While S1 ommited some dark stuff, Shido himself gave some perspective in Muku`s arc.

The season 4 ending theme has 3 girls, and the season 4 story revolves around these 3 girls. By using the same analogy, the season 5 ending theme has 1 girl. It means the entire season is about her. It is still hard to classify her as a "girl". I remember her as a middle age woman from season 4. She still retains dark circles around her eyes in season 5. Her face looks younger. She loses her past traits. She uses to be always look tired all the time. Now, she looks like one of the girls. In season 4, Kurumi found out the "girl" is the fairy of origin. Kurumi neglects to relay the information to Shido. The younger Kurumi only tells Shido to know her current self works very hard to keep him alive. Origami is the same as previous seasons, but her perv symptom becomes less severe right now. Only Kurumi's and Origami's appearance are memorable right now. Having too many girls in the show not only minimize their dialogues, they also become more like side characters.

The disappointing thing about this series is Shido has a clear favorite within the harem, yet the majority of them have pretty much given themselves over to him both heart and soul. He literally made them all love him, but can't give himself to all of them equally because he loves one of them more than the others.

Yay for Tohka, but this series has a lot of "best girls" and the others deserve better than sharing second place...

I don't think he really has a "favorite," I think he and Tohka are really close but ultimately he would go to bat for any of them, like he's focused on Kurumi right now.

nice to see everyone again.

it's been so long following this anime, now on season 5 + a few movies.

Mukuro still prettiest girl for me. But fav girl is still Miku... I almost got bit by a dog helping a friend get a cosplay costume from a tailor. lol

anyway on to the story.. how can they lose? They have the help of Kotomine Kirei (Woodman). XD

Origami when she's not out for revenge, is actually a very nice person. She could have killed those girls when they refused to ignore DEM orders, but just gave them a warning instead. Perhaps they are shocked she is now a spirit.

I'm starting to like the Kurumi clone who went to warn Shidou. Like her more than the original.

Ok, when we reach this point, please tell me, what infos you believe you had, since I'm kinda interested with what you are working (or at least believe) .

As for Mio. Actually we don't know this much yet. We know her name, what she is doing but not why she is this doing that as well as what her exact endgoal is, even though the beginning of the first ep is hinting a bit. We also know that both Westcott and Woodman know her. Other than that, the rest is still shrouded in mystery.

Cooking with Tohka and Mukuro! They even manage to rope in Yoshino and Natsumi! And no one can talk Natsumi into it than her bestie Yoshino !

Another Miyu Tomita OP for DAL! Featuring plenty of visuals of Mio/Reine, her connection to Shido, the Spirits filling out the Sephirah, SHIDO WITH KURUMI'S POWER, Tohka leading the other Spirits in taking on Mio in full Spirit form, Mana taking on Ellen and Artemisia, Westcott looking extra sinister, and Shido crying. This looks like it's going to be an epic and action-packed season !

I'm not surprised Nia and Miku are leading off a game about turning non-erotic words erotic, though it was definitely missing Origami, but please stop teasing poor Kaguya! Girls just trying to be cute and wholesome. Though it was pretty cute how all the girls ended up just gushing over how cool Shido is .

Come on Miku, it probably took a lot of courage for Natsumi to text someone .

MARIA wants to look her best for the fight with DEM, but they have bigger priorities...though it's good to see Shido comforting Kotori while she's preparing for everything. And Reine basically admits that her objective is something "surprisingly silly," whatever that is .

Bold of the girls to make rice onigiri with their least favorite ingredient...though now I want to know what Shido's was .

I'm honestly not surprised Miku crawls into bed and possibly ravishes other girls while they're sleeping (and she may not be sleep-crawling) but it offered up a nice moment between Tohka and Shido. Shido has his doubts about if he's doing the right thing to save Kurumi, Tohka has doubts about how their meeting started this all and put Shido in so much danger...but Shido doesn't regret a thing, and would always have chosen this path that brought him to all the girls. I also loved the Tohka lap pillow and the pair holding hands while gazing lovingly at each other .

Oh hey, it's Tonomachi and the schoolgirl trio! We haven't seen them in forever! I love how they actually consider Shido just ran off with the other girls from their school to a Hot Spring because he's a seductive monster

DEM is putting their full forces against Ratatoskr, but they're basically just those pushy guys who force themselves on women and act possessive of them. They've got nothing on Ratatoskry and the crew of the Fraxinus who know how to properly treat and escort ladies, especially with Kotori in charge. And all the other Spirits are rallying behind her as their leader .

So Nia is blocking out Beelzebub meaning Wescott doesn't know they're planning to free Artemisia from her brainwashing to take out their Bandersnatch forces...and Shido is going to be their secret weapon against Nibeelcolle .

DEM has to face off against an army of Kurumi's and cities transforming into turrets (this is their city, after all), but Westcott doesn't seem worried. In fact he seems ecstatic !

"Spirit Resurrection?" Mio enters the fight ?

I was really curious, how they would do the OP, since compared to every previous season, the song is way slower. I like the end result, especially this Kabbalah sequence is great. The whole thing in general radiates Infinity War vibes. The changing of the volume structure could also be an advantage (or rather a different approach) to the source material.

The biggest battle in the series to date has started! I'm looking forward to it.

So far the animation is holding up compared to previous seasons, hope they keep it up.

episode 2:

so it's Ratatoskr's small fleet against DEM's fleet which is five times as many. However, this city is home ground for Ratatoskr, and they have several snti-ship cannons prepared in the buildings to even the odds a bit. Kurumi joins in as well, and the small war has begun.

I'm puzzled at the japanese government in this anime. They allow a business company like DEM Industries to have an army of it's own? Or maybe DEM has people in the government? 30 battleships and thousands of Bandersnatch robots are enough to threaten a small country.

looking forward to the next episode on how Shidou and the spirits will fight. Also looking forward how Kotori would lead.

The war between Ratatoskr and DEM continues in earnest! With the Spirits joining the battle, complete with Natsumi and Miku playing support and buffing Tohka, the Yamai Twins, Yoshino, Origami and Mukuro !

Kurumi vs Nibeelcole! Battle of the mass CGI Spirits .

Well, AST is here, and are under orders to hunt down Spirits...and that's what their job has always been right? But then they turn out to just be bait and have to get saved BY Spirits...and they realize it's time to get new jobs. It's not like they were ever all that good at fighting Spirits anyways .

Origami vs Artemisia! Artemisia can seemingly remember something, enough to be bothered by Origami's presence, but she's too caught up in her brainwashing to completely give up. Good thing the plan was never to beat her but to distract her long enough for Mukuro to get close and access her memories! Complete with assist from AST !

I'm really wondering exactly what happened between Ellen, Elliot, Karen, and Westcott. What drove the two sisters to different sides? Was Karen completely joking about wanting to run away with Elliot and have three kids? How did Elliot transform into his younger self voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa to fight Ellen !?

So what is the teams' solution for taking care of Nibeelcole? Why, their solution to taking care of ANY Spirit...have Shido show up, turn on the charm, and immediately turn Seal them with a kiss. And because Nibeelcole is an extension of Beelzebub, she carries Nia's affinity for Shido, making her completely susceptible to Shido. Meaning a single kiss, and even air kisses, is enough to defeat her and her clones en masse. Shido truly is a seductive monster .

Though the REAL Kurumi wants in on this fun too, especially because she still needs Shido's power to go back in time and kill the Spirit of Origin...but Shido loves Kurumi and he knows Kurumi loves him too, and he doesn't want a world where they and the rest of the Spirits aren't all together. Which means Shido has to be the one to go back, seal Mio, and create the ultimate timeline where everyone is together and happy. And if anyone can do it, it's Shido !

Oh no, not eyepatch Kurumi! She died saving her real self and in her last words told her to be honest with herself. And with that in mind, Kurumi finally tells Shido that she'll let him kiss her and seal her once this is all over...though first they have to deal with Mio popping up out of nowhere in Kurumi's chest. Looks like we're finally going to be getting some real answers .

As funny as the countermeasure against Nibeelcole is, all it does is get rid of them quickly and doesn't solve the matter of their infinite numbers. But everyone has a bigger problem on their hands now that Mio has popped out of Kurumi

Looks like we'll get Mio's backstory next week.

episode 3:

the heavy fighting continue. Ellen is kept busy by Elliot - which leaves Artemisia to be ganged up on by Origami, Muku, and the AST squad. Even with the disadvantage, Artemisia was still able to wound Origami. I was surprised they showed blood.

another surprising thing is.. the spirits are very good team players. The supports staying behind giving buffs, while the fighters go to the front lines. Did they practice doing this? xD
