Episode 46

Spoiler:

A very atmospheric episode with both good fighting and good dialogue from Souma. The scene with Sonia after she completed her mission killing Souma's father and returning to the palace, leaning against the cliff while Aria sings in the background then Sonia finally breaking down into tears was very powerful, probably one of the better scenes for the last handful of episodes.

As for why Sonia burns up I think there are enough clues during the dialogue to piece together a plausible explanation. 1) her confusion was already messing up her cosmo as Souma said, and 2) when she rejected Souma's offer to come to the other side it pretty much symbolised her determination to continue on the path of self-destruction to serve Mars. So with these psychological factors when she burnt her cosmo to the max and tried to initiate the ultimate attack her psychology caused a relapse of her cosmo thus burning herself up instead. This isn't really anything new in Saint Seiya either because we know there are a few attacks where if the person isn't 100% it would have dire consequences for the user (eg Shoryuha), combined with all the usual shounen cliche of "it's all about the right kind of determination" I think it isn't anything weird, anyway that's the way I see it.

I think the first one. Some people were saying it was the Scorpio Cloth rejecting her, but would that have caused an explosion big enough to wreck its own temple? Plus Medea's acting shifty the whole episode. I guess she didn't count on only Souma being there when it happened.

This was a beautiful episode. The music was better than average and helped make Sonia's death highly emotional. In the end, Sonia was just a lonely girl (I liked the imagery of her standing in a desert even if it's not exactly subtle) who wanted a warm and loving family. Unfortunately for her, Medea ruined everything. She never even acknowledged her as her daughter in spite of everything she's done for her. Cold-hearted bitch.

I can't wait to see Eden and Mars' reaction to Sonia's death next week. I feel bad for Eden, losing both the love of his life and his sister in such a short span.

The preview says Mykene is going after Medea... I wish he'd succeed in killing her but there's pretty much no way that will happen.

The cast list indicates Pisces Amour will show up (to kill Mykene?) and he will be voiced by the one and only Akira Ishida. Brace for fabulous.

we weren't just warned with the openning it flat out said it, it went from aria then she turned into sonia she grabbed something that looked like a cloth stone then she was engulfed in flames, at first i thought it meant she was going to become the new southern cross saint and her true cosmo was fire, but now i know it basicly showed how she died and was predicted to die

If Medea knew this would happen, then the most obvious scenario is that she expected Sonia to burn along with Eden, since she was supposed to meet and "fix" him.

BUT...when Medea said "...so she couldn't become my daughter after all", she sounded almost disappointed. Perhaps Medea partly expected Sonia to overcome her doubts, in a way she could pull out a strong Cosmo like that without backfiring. Either way, it was a win-win for Medea.

Those two might not be mutually exclusive given how common tough love is for trainers in this series.

Plus she seems twisted enough to believe that kind of logic.
