Not gonna lie, was waiting anxiously today for when they were going to air this. And it was worth it, since I loved the episode as a whole. Probably is and will remain my favourite pilot for the cour; maybe Children of the Whales may usurp it, but with it being Netflix, I'm not holding my breath for fansubs.
Was it flawless? No - them doing the 4koma type skits was especially jarring with the 'little sister' stamps separating each segment. Even 4koma adaptations nowadays go for seamless transition, so them doing a step back when the source isn't even 4koma is baffling to say the least. That said, using the ED as way to illustrate the passage of time, with no dialogue at all? It isn't the first time a song was done that way (last time I remember it done beautifully was Grimgar), but still, it perfectly illustrates how the MC was totally absorbed in Nayu's LN. Which brings me to my next point... there was a big lack of MC inner thoughts, but unlike Youjitsu, they got the nuances across so it wasn't really needed. That is we were shown: -MC and Nayu aren't going out, much to Nayu's dismay -MC and Nayu weren't as pervy when they first met as they are now -the confession scene is immediately followed by the MC looking at Nayu's book -then a flashback shows that the MC was actually VERY happy when he got confessed to by Nayu -MC then spent an entire day just to finish Nayu's novel -the MC reading flashback was immediately followed by him getting back to work So while it is unsaid, it is very heavily implied that the MC has repeatedly turned her down not because he finds Nayu unattractive (on the contrary he made remarks that girls shouldn't be all about their face and boobs), but because he doesn't feel worthy to be with her. Maybe he feels jealous of Nayu's prodigious talent, or that he isn't someone who can stand beside her when his writing is trash compared to hers, but whatever the case is, he is still working hard late (even after a party!) to be a writer that can stand beside Nayu. Of course, Nayu doesn't care about that. To her, the MC literally saved her from the depths of depression, and the entire reason why she started writing was because she wanted to meet this Itsuki-sensei. Heck she was so nervous upon meeting him that she threw up on Itsuki during her debut award ceremony, which is as far removed from her 'daring' actions with Itsuki and also in the shower. Which brings us to the next nuance... that the MC and Nayu are hiding behind their pervy personas, since it's obvious they weren't this degenerate when they first met. The MC may have imouto tendencies in the beginning (they mention his first series has the imouto as the main heroine), but he really dials it to 11 as a reason to deflect Nayu. Nayu on the other hand was hero-worshipping the MC before, but now is a totally obsessed pervert that sniffs the MC's underwear. She also speaks in the 'cat' accent, which I personally don't think is a coincidence that her actions are VERY similar to the pervy little sister shown in the beginning of the episode. In essence, she has read Itsuki's novels and manuscripts, and consciously or unconsciously, she is behaving like the imouto heroines from his writing as a means to cope with his constant rejection. All this from just the first episode! This is the depth I LOVE so much about Imouto sae Ireaba Ii, but of course Nayu isn't the only one introduced this episode. So looking forward to the next episodes detailing the rest of the cast.

^I have the same feeling about this series, and to be honest I feel like it was a better than eromanga sensei. Of couse this is nothing out of the ordinary or revolutionary but it has something that makes it fun and appealing, at least is not overrated like Eromanga sensei.
Nayu is a fun character but those imouto stamps were annoying, the MC on the other hand showed his real feelings straight away which is something nice considering most MC's take half of the series on doing that. Also it seems that there is a OTP established already with Nayu and Itsuki, maybe I'm wrong. |

To me this is the answer to the trash that is Erogmanga sensei. Adult characters living real lives.
I like that we learn why MC is standoffish to Nayu. He's not annoyed by her advances, but feels he's not worthy of being her boyfriend because he writes trash and she writes stuff that moved him to tears. He wants to write something that will impress her. P.S. Why did the characters reference Oreimo when it's a different studio? I thought that kind of thing was not allowed? |

One thing I can't figure out is his glass case of imoutos. The easy ones are Miyuki from Irregular at Magic High School in the middle of the screen, and the two on the right of Miyuki are the bakemonogatari imoutos right?
The ones on the left look AWFULLY familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. The one on the far right is just totally obscured, so it needs to be ID'd by the uniform. I guess I'm not an imouto lover enough to figure it out...

Judging from those eyes I'm betting Chihiro is a trap. But if that's the case, does that mean he has a basis for his assumptions on what's "normal" to do when you have a little sister? I hope in the next few episodes we don't see Chihiro waking him up naked or kissing him.

well after the crap ending and crap mc from haganai(which started really awesome but goes on a anwfull terrible way) i was much on the fence over this anime and it indeed somehow was for my not "good expectations".
my big complain so far is really the mc, he is really looking like your generic perv trying to be funny mc which a "golden heart" his siscom is overboard and totally disturbing in many ways. the first minutes which the "imoto jokes" about milk and eggs and she walking naked and kissing him with tongue, i was like wtft this is a hentai serie????, this beginner disturbed me a lot, if i'm was his editor i could be serious thinking in calling the cops or maybe some psichological help, this guy is a serious nut. I really can understand his sister crossdressing as a guy, having a dangerous brother like that could be really dangerous if she appear as a girl, the danger of him try to turn her in a sexual slut slave is big. near the end the reason he is refusing her also look very generic for the typical envy mc which think which he is not "worth of it, really very generic plot which will lead him to be able to rise flags which all the girls as he keep his "crushing over the silver haired girl in check because is much more fun fliriting and rising flags with every girl than hook up which the girl which love you and you are jelly of her "better work" and you feel which only after you draw something Better than her" which you must accept if already is on time, i really can see the whole anime and plot just in one episode. i will try to stick a little giving the 3 rules episodes but it's really looks like your generic harem not fun shinegans.

At the start of this show my finger hovered over the stop button as I thought "OH FFS!", but as the scenario became more bizarre and then we entered the real world with the editor neatly skewering the main guy's fetish nonsense, I wondered if this might be going somewhere interesting.
But no. To be honest the thing I found most interesting in this show is that i don't remember any other anime where people drank stout. Usually when you see people drinking beer in anime it's some foamy lager, so a stout, which is an actual stout (the brewery's name appearing in the end credits) was a welcome change. Sounds like an interesting brew, too. Other than that, I might give it another episode or two but don't hold out any hopes. |
