That was great, looks like a proper drama-like SOL show. I kept getting an uneasy feeling whenever outsider guy was in the scene though... please don't turn into a supernatural show.

EDIT:

So the premise of this show is a handsome transfer student swoops in and steals the main girl from a group of friends. Meh.

^ It's more like the story of a girl who lives a pretty normal glass-making life till she meets this dark and mysterious guy and gets involved in some sort of supernatural (and romantic) bullshit as a result.

Twilight the anime .

Okay... After mulling over it for some time I re-watched ep 1 again.

One thing immediately comes to mind, and that is my dislike for the "pretentious and overly dramatic poses while looking at himself in a mirror" feel to the communication style of the transfer student. It just makes me roll my eyes plain and simple, and was even so bad at first glance that it colored my impressions of the ep as a whole! However, that, and the weird chibi'fied char filled ED visuals, are the only things that turned me off about ep 1 - though I can deal with the ED, I think.

The six sided love triangle is a groaner too, but not in a bad way. It is more like "Geh. Here it comes...."

Glassblower girl is interested in transfer student.
Transfer student is interested in glassblower girl for reasons other than romance, it seems (this is where the "mysterious" elements of the series seem to enter from).
Model girl is interested in her brother, who is a brother because of her parent's second marraige and does track.
Model girl's brother is interested in glassblower girl.
Headband guy is interested in glasses girl.
Glasses girl may also be interested in Model girl's brother - not clear yet.

Talk about a mess.

The lyrics for the OP and ED are pretty fitting, in my opinion, and the OP itself is pleasant to listen to.

"brother because of their parents second marriage"
So, basically there had to be a couple of semi-incestous "silbings" regardless of what
-----------------------

I love dramatic romance and love triangles, but this one hit me in the face with that love dodecahedron too early, and it hit me with a dislikable main guy, who comes off as if he practices his lines in front of a mirror while wearing a fedora
I wonder, this glass theme that was part of the appeal, will it be important as it was hinted in the synopsis I read, or will it be transformed into some supernatural deal?
Also, what's the deal with P.A Works and chickens?

I wonder if the chickens are somehow supposed to be some sort of artistic symbols of the characters other than the transfer student?

Still, other than the transfer student I find myself liking it very much... Hopefully the eps will get better from hereon out.

For the record, I got the info about step siblings from CR: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-new...t-announcement

This is P.A. Works version of a shoujo manga. Touko will end up being the hero who saves dark and mysterious David from a tragic past.

I'm not even joking.

Had some serious True Tears flashbacks with the chickens, geez.

Looks alright so far. I hope there is more on the glass making. It seems sidelined and what i wasn't expecting. I like romance but come on!

That ending is pretty damn horrible btw.

My concerns with Glasslip going in were that it seemed to be trying a little hard to be the quintessential P.A. Works series - to be an amalgam of everyone's expectations of what that should be. Beautiful scenery porn, a group of high school friends who look and act younger than they are, wistful slice of life, hints of magical realism. It all seemed very self-aware to me.

And after the premiere, that feeling was totally unchanged. The show is directed by the man who helmed P.A. Works' signature series, Nishimura Junji, and they even have chickens playing a major role yet again. And the result was something that feels pre-fab, as if it was built from a kit rather than written - a cake that came out of a box. Could be a slow starter, and it does look great as expected, so I'm far from giving up. But that didn't hold my interest for the most part.

First impression was... "What the heck is Sawa doing here?"

Well at least Hayamin's character this time is a tsundere, so she speaks differently. That said, I dunno if Touyama and her should have switched roles, since I liked the imouto's tsun better than Hayamin's. (Which kinda irks me actually since I wish Touyama used that voice in Nisekoi rather than trying to imitate Tomatsu's trademark high pitched tsun voice, but whatever)

Not sure why Yanagi was wide eyed first time she saw the transfer student, nor why Sachi (and later Yanagi as well) seem to dislike him at first glance. I can understand Yuki since it's so obvious he likes Touko, but the other two's dislike is a bit too much even if he's an 'intruder' to their click. Especially mysterious why transfer student mentions he finally 'found' Touko. Oh well, only first episode, so just wait and see.

Episode 1 of True flowers that bloomed near the sea with flowing tears, and that:

Well, after more subways, and the most uninspired character introduction either (dude, what's with the animation here?) we start with the mandatory PA works festival. Touko Isurugi is the lead that seems obsessed with drawing chickens is a bit off kilter and is it just me or the show is like self referential or some shit?

The transitions to the story were extremely weird, and the character interactions were rushed. I mean you don't really feel like the characters are talking to other; they seem to be talking to the screen and having occasional banter towards one or another, not as bad as The Room, but it was very off putting. But insert distraction!

Your mighty powers of lens flare cannot defeat me!
Weird that I like the character that has like 3 lines the most.

Images

Dude, I'm like totally a douchebag

I mean, consider the weird pretentious banter between DAH-VID and Touko. While it would have served to portray the eccentricity of the characters, I think it just dragged on to the point of redundancy. Okay, chicken girl is weird. Whatever bro. As opposed to say True Tears where they just let you feel the characters, instead of this complete lack of subtlety or interest.

Yes, I am a douchebag. And the villain.

Yes, I will destroy your sorry PA Works males

Damn it, I only had a few lines, wtf? I must stand up now.

Sachi being amusing and cute is the only thing that really holds the episode together, as she seems to do a lot of funny stuff in the background. Whether she's secretly a troll or just the typical quiet girl that ends up doing nothing remains to be seen.

We then end with Nano.ripe, since the Choucho OP was so good, we should balance it out with something terrible.

Anyhow, below average for a first episode, I'd say. I'll give a chance for it to pick itself up.

After reading Flower's and DragoonKain3's posts I suggest to use Flower's ISO naming conventions from now on for an easier reading experence

My favorite character so far is obviously the Model Girl, hopefully she will come unstuck from that brother of her quickly!

That idea is kinda disturbing, but entirely possible.

But I think that's one of the problems I saw with the first episode. It feels pretty derivative and with only references that only viewers of previous shows that will get it can feel a bit hard for new viewer to get into. I like easter eggs myself, but it can be a bit distracting when swaths of the show, though I guess this is an issue with anime in general.

I mean some of will view and be like "Hey, True Tears!" but to other people it's just like huh? Cocks!

A quite bland and disorganized first episode with too many characters introduced together. That is my major gripe and it's a sign of weakness because it means they didn't have much time to focus on them, but that is bad because personally I couldn't feel for any of them. A golden rule for character driven romances is to introduce no more than 2-3 protagonists per time, here I think they overdid and since they only have 12 episodes it'll be difficult to put a remedy.

Very nice sceneries and visuals but this is where the studio usually excels. Jibeta made his return in a PA Works series but I didn't see Raigomaru unless he had a wig.

Tari Tari's episode 1, since we're talking of the same staff, was much more enticing than this. I'll still probably watch the whole series but my expectations are considerably lowered.

I'm at work so I haven't watched the ep yet, but I've been seeing a LOT of negative opinions on this first episode, so I'm actually worried. Like when SoL/drama fans like Flower and Pellisier starts saying it's kinda bad that's some worrisome flags.

I've only seen the Choucho OP (which was great) and the nano.ripe ED (which was terrible even considering their usual terrible standards) on youtube.

Guess I should lower my expectations immediately before I go on rage how it disappointed .

But I doubt it would be bad as Nagi no Asu Kara's first episode (first few actually). That is the definition of turd in my books.

Yeah, the response has definitely been lukewarm at best. I enjoyed the premiere quite a lot, though - it might have just been the mood I was in, but this first episode was one of the best anime experiences of recent memory. I even enjoyed some of the things that others actively disliked (such as introducing a boatload of characters right from the start).
