In any case, I hail from a country called the United Kingdom, so you'll have to excuse me for missing the relevancy of a country's name to its actual state of affairs. Last time I checked, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea wasn't exactly holding up to its namesake either. XP

The first episode was ok for exposition purposes. The only part that felt jarring for me was the end, when they went from the BBQ to some sort of battle. That was a bit confusing, so, hopefully, they might explain it in the second episode.
This looks like it will fill the season that Gate left. If this is truly 24 episodes, then it's most likely split cour, since Gate will return in January. For now, I only see 12 episodes listed, with the last showing on December 18 as scheduled. There will be no 3-5 episodes rule for me on this one. I'm definitely watching until the end.

Well if we ever get a sub forum we can go into the nitty gritty of Object technology.
The world could use another "uncomplicated" real mecha series. Quote:

Military arms race is nothing unusual. A new piece of tech makes a big enough impression and everyone will want one.

This is everything I wanted from a heavy object anime. Leaving off at the loss of the baby magnum was an awsome stop point. I was squealing at the prologue as it was just so complete from what I recall in the light novel

I love how much though seemingly went into creating the setting and considering what would be the repercussions of having such an overwhelmingly powerful weapon that renders all other forms of military obsolete.
I really like the main characters. The hero has really great dynamic with his buddy, with whom they are this kind of base troublemakers -, the Princess - who seems a nice, and well adjusted mecha pilot, that actually gets along with the hero - and even with their commanding officer - who is this type that seems strict at first sight, but actually has a soft spot for them and looks through the fingers at their escapades. The episode did a good job building up their life at the base and realities of both the war at large and their daily life, only to at a wham note with the devastating attack of enemy OBJECT. I have to say, I'm instantly charmed by this series, and I can't wait for the next episode. |

it was entertaining, especially the setting, it reminds me a lot of Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve.
As for the episode, had too much exposition for my taste, I´m fine when it's the narrator, but it was a bit sloppy in using the characters to continue delivering even more exposition. I won't mind not knowing a lot about the Object in the first episode if I could get a bit more characterization instead. |

Really enjoyed that first episode. They more or less had the most important info presented in an interesting way. The prologue was done nicely. The characters were portrayed as expected, too.
That hangar scene was even more hilarious in the anime. Quenser is great. Looking forward to seeing the next episode for quite a few things. |

It was slow on purpose. Pretty sure all of your questions will be answered soon. If you're doing the three episode rule, then you should probably be satisfied by the end of the third episode (given the perceived pacing based on the episode titles). That aside. That was a very solid first episode adaptation of one of Kamachi's works. That felt rather gratifying. If I had one complaint it would have been that completely gratuitous shower scene. Lol, but I guess it wasn't that bad, since the staff probably had to compromise to put that in, in order to decide that it was okay to give so much exposition in the episode. I feel like Quenser was correctly shown as a bit of doofus (or maybe rather as inexperienced) when it comes to handling life/death matters with that emergency parachute scene. Either way, fanservice or lack therefore aside, the plot is there, and the pacing is good, and the adaptation seems strong in this one. So since I actually don't mind fanservice except for when I am watching something in front of others or for when I try to show other people something, this is probably going to be amazing (just like the novels).

The plot side of the episode was good. Got a good understanding of the world situation and how the Objects have really changed things.

I finally watched the episode and all I can say is: I totally get why the first episode got a mixed reception. Its difficult to say that anything remarkable happened. Quite literally it was an introduction episode.
The gist is pretty simple: *These are Objects and they've totally changed how wars have operated; i.e. the Object is quite literally the only thing that matters. *Here's our protagonists and their reasons for being on base. *Here's the rest of the characters. *Here's some fanservice to stop you from getting bored. *Life's pretty calm and uneventful when someone else is doing the fighting. *'Oh Shit' moment right at the end. Its because the Oh shit moment only happened at the end that the reception of the characters and episode has been mixed. It can't be helped. Nothing else happened. Hopefully, Episode 2 can change things up as Quenser/Qwenthur and Heivia/Havia start adapting to the battlefield that they are left in. And the eventual David vs Goliath moment where they work together to take down the enemy Object. Animation and colours are a bit flat but JC Staff is JC Staff. Also, I quite enjoyed the OP song. At least there's confirmation that we're adapting til the end of Volume 2. The question is: Are we doing it in one cour? Is it going to be split cour?

You have to show your legitimacy as part of the kingdom. For Quenser, it's working hard to earn money. For Heivia, it's earning military recognition to get his inheritance. Basically, the Legitimacy Kingdom is "work hard, earn hard". Quote:

Suppose I'm curious how conflicts will be handled. A lot of talk about David vs Goliath, but does that mean that Milinda will be less involved in things? From the OP I got an impression it would be that they need Qwenthur and Havia to even the playing field because the first generation can't measure up in a fight where the specialist type can fight in its element. Was kind of guessing the key would be the main duo finding ways to limit and weaken the other Object.
But then of course their Object blew up before the OP so....who knows.
